I'm a little bit surprised the Kraken aren't on this list for disappointing teams. Yes, regression should have been expected, but that much regression was something I did not see coming

@MikeBartner 25 күн бұрын
Definitely disappointing but yea as you said the regression was kinda obvious with the juiced shooting % they had last year.

There were plenty of teams that did have disappointing seasons. Among Canadian ones, going into the regular season, I had seen the: - Leafs and Oilers finish in top-3 divisional spots, which would end up happening despite struggles both teams would end up going through, including with defence and goaltending - Flames and Habs finish out of playoff spots although those teams wouldn’t finish far apart on points in the end, still finishing in the bottom-10 on points - Canucks, Jets and Sens finish potentially as high as fourth in their respective divisions, but due to struggles the previous season, not finish in top-3 divisional spots, with my predictions wrong for the Western Canadian teams but not the Southeastern Ontario one I had known to be sceptical, going into this postseason, on how far any of the Canucks, Oilers Jets and Leafs might go in the postseason if any of them qualify. The Leafs last season surprisingly won a playoff series although I’d had my doubts they would end up doing so this time around. As the Oilers had started so poorly, I had seen, back in November, after the hiring of Kris Knoblauch as their 1st post-Jay Woodcroft head coach, a high unlikelihood they would come anywhere near a playoff spot. I have had concerns, regarding the: - Canucks, Jets and Leafs, lack of depth scoring - Oilers and Leafs, also goaltending and defence for each team Lack of depth scoring would ultimately cut the Leafs‘ postseason short at 7 games and hurt the Canucks during the final 2 games of this month’s Oilers-Canucks series. It was surprising, however, given concerns I’d had about poor defence during the last five games that going into the Leafs-Bruins series the Leafs had played (with 4 or more goals given up in such games, with just 1 point from an OT loss to the Wings), the Leafs would on average go onto allow per playoff game, rounded to the nearest 0.01 goals, just 2.57, 8th-lowest as of games that had ended on 4 May Eastern Daylight Time. The Winnipeg Jets, going into their own opening-round playoff series, had been playing quite well, having won multiple games in a row and having beaten 7-0 their then-most recent game against their would-be opening-around opponent, the Avs. Little with anyone know that the Jets‘ play in the postseason would end up mirroring more that they had displayed during a losing streak they’d ended March on. yes, the Jets won the first game of the playoff, but only BARELY at 7-6 in regulation. Going into the trade deadline, I didn’t think Brad Treliving would be very active although, considering the mess he’d inherited from Kyle Dubas, the previous GM of the same team, it was IMO important to at least not sacrifice so many early round draft picks as the Leafs had had a limited number of them before the 2027 NHL Entry Draft. The Canucks, Oilers and Jets were all pretty active going into this season’s trade deadline, with enough of those additions that would end up paying off for the BC and Alberta teams unlike with the Manitoba one. None of the Canucks, Oilers and Leafs would on average allow, during their opening-round 2024 playoff series, even taking into account, empty net goals, 3.0 or more, never mind, before taking into account ENGs, the 4.8 the Jets would go on to allow. Among NHL teams, whether Canadian or not, I would say the: - Flyers are one of my most surprising, considering how badly they had finished last season but how close they would come to this season making their first post-2020 playoff appearance - Devils are one of my most surprising because of how far they had tumbled out of the Metro Division’s top-three, making way for the Isles and Capitals I found this Jets‘ season one of the most puzzling because in regular-season play their defence was relatively good but the postseason it was just nowhere near as good. That the Jets have gone nine straight playoff games during which they have allowed at least four goals is a sign of overreliance on Connor Hellebuyck to bail them out. That said, he’s been a close to elite goalie during the regular season but hasn’t, during either the past two seasons, successfully transitioned to being elite come playoff time when stakes are no lower. Going into next season the Jets have a three-season-long playoff series win drought and six-season-long conference final appearance drought, neither of them enviable. Given the above, I find it astonishing that Kevin Cheveldayoff, who’s been GM of that team from the early 2010s, is STILL the GM of that team. Of Canadian NHL teams, only Ken Holland, his Oilers‘ counterpart, has been GM of a Canadian team since even before the 2019-20 season while among NHL team, GM’s, only the Blues‘ Doug Armstrong has served in his current role longer than Chevy. Outside Chevy and Holland, the least-recently-appointed GM of a Canadian NHL team is Kent Hughes of the Habs, with his tenure having started slightly over a week before that of his current Canucks‘ counterpart would start. Last calendar year the Flames, Leafs and Sens changed their GMs.

Nashville take my award for most underrated team this year. Nyquist was legit 75+ points. O' Riley played like prime O' Riley. And Forsberg was a Hart canidate. If Saros was playing up to like Vezina level this season + playoffs i think they are better then 2018 Preds.

I actually think the Red Wings were a lot more surprising than Nashville. I think a lot of people slept on the impact their FA signings would have along with a great coach like Brunette. I had them making the playoffs as a WC team but Detroit idk if really anyone had them making it. They definitely had a big boost with Kane coming in and being so clutch (Red Wings need to find a way to keep him) so that helped but a lot of career years and big play from their vets stepping up

Vancouver has always been a team with the core to be a playoff team. #1 C EP40. #1 D Quinn Hughes. #1 G Demko. Then you also have Miller as the most underrated player in the league and who is a legit ppg-100 point guy with good two way qualities. Then you had EVERYONE else have carrer years. Joshua Boeser Hronek just to name a few.

Arizona is the most dissapointing franchise in history. I get its definitely not the first relocation but with the fans being through misery and them technically already moving from Phoenix to other Arizona. I think everyone expected a fun team this year. First 50 games. Yeah. But then they were again horrible. After going through a tear down rebuild and have a bunch of key players it should've been a good season like philly

How is Anaheim not a disappointment? I get the injuries but with the young core they have + depth they added, I would have thought they’d be outside the bottom 5 at least.

Philly would have safely made it had they not lost hart, injuries and bad goaltending at the worst time led to the collapse but they’ll be a 92 point team next year as long as they don’t have to overplay errson. Philly is going to keep surprising people cam York is a stud and if mitchkov comes over they might have some juice. Their power play was horrid if they just become average on the power play they are a playoff team
