The Ambassador class and ships of that era I've seen referred to as the 'Lost Era' because there is that huge period of time that bridges the TMP (Miranda, Constellation, Constitution) era and the TNG era and is one of my favourite periods to think about. The Warp Delta to me has always looked like it may have evolved from the Phoenix; the hull with a pair of nacelles sticking out, which is a great bridge between the NX-designs and the first warp ships humanity would have built. The Olympic is far, FAR less offensive than the Jeager class. It's a nice throw-back to the Daedalus. It's a design that's never upset me. Starfleet's advantage is they try out different designs and ideas and I can imagine designers re-visiting designs from the past for new ideas, in this case the Daedalus. The Norway class looks a bit awkward and weak with that space between the nacelles, but I like your reasoning; a fast, a relatively heavily armed (For it's size) interdictor frigate makes a lot of sense in the Anti-Borg fleet. Fits the Intrepid class design language as well.

If you read the Eaglemoss Blerb for the Nemesis - you get the impression of what it would operate like as a fully crewed ship and all it's various features. It does have one thing a bit broken in it - but that maybe down to set design and poor writing - which is to do with the main cargo entrance/shuttlebay doors - or rather it's lack of them. They also don't show what knocks the Enterprise out of warp well enough for most people to catch what is going on - but it is it's semi-autonomous heavy drones that knock the ship out of FTL but you can only really see them if you slow the footage down really slow. The non-warp drones she has dozens off the phaser ball turrets, the hanger bay placement - the moving armour - it's all very interesting to me.

@jinsetayinsei41464 жыл бұрын
With great valor, I shall draw mine saber and face peril with thee, for I, being like-minded, find the Olympic class appealing, though for differing reasons, perhaps. Logistically, a sphere is superior to a saucer. Even if the sphere is the 'starship' part with the nacelles in what I'd call the tertiary hull and the secondary hull was the hospital, I'd still be happy with it. I'm pretty sure this is fan lore, but its my personal preference to run with it; The Ambassador proved an engineering failure shortly after entering service. She was given a very powerful warp core with a simple and robust distribution grid. This made her secondary systems the last to fail, but the Ambassador's primary systems failed to properly exploit the potential of her core. Her shields could be reinforced by the deflector, but the emitters were indirectly connected via relays. This was the same for weapons and even life support. These relays made maintenance an unpleasant beach. Records from the Enterprise C's destruction worsened the Ambassador's questionable reputation and showed her best quality was that she could take a beating. Fixes to the Ambassador's design flaws made her too costly, and with the possibility of a renewed Romulan threat, Starfleet decided to wait for a new class in which to commission an Enterprise and scaled back production of the Ambassador. There's a lot of presumption is this, but it offers a decent explanation as to why a second Ambassador didn't get named 1701D and why an Enterprise wasn't commissioned until 15 years later. No complaints for the Delta V. She looks just fine. The Norway? It would be nice if that gap was for a detachable module. Then I wouldn't care one iota. She is a gorgeous little ship that deserves more attention. The Nimrod... I'd prefer the nacelles to be beefier, but otherwise not bad. Next to the Discovery, the Nimrod almost follows the same design theme, but would really look like an alternate faction ship compared to the original curvy designs. To be frank, it looks like someone stole Starfleet designs rather than alternative. It reminds me of the earliest Orion designs. Since you have alien vessels, its hard to be an alternate faction without looking alien. To that end, you should make slight changes to normal faction ships to make them look 'alternate'.

Not generally a fan of discovery, but even I have to admit that the Nimrod class looks awesome. Good work. Also, my top 5: 1. Saber (designed in the same role as the defiant, that says a lot of it's petigree). Slightly larger, but really good bang for your buck. Large enough to do some multi-role duties in peacetime too. Nice looks. 2. Streamrunner, 3. "Venture" class mission scout (Data's ship at the beginning of inserrection). Smaller than the Delta flyer (40 metric tons lighter) with a very nice design. Type six phaser arrays, although its slower speed might indicate a weaker power plant. Still, in my opinion THIS is what Starfleet shuttles should aspire to be in terms of looks alone. For a small ship, it looks GREAT. I take one look at it and can say "that's a small ship from an advanced sci-fi civilization, it looks like it means business. Pods are nice, but the hybrid wing look has me hooked. 4. Akira: Galaxy class, but smaller, more maneuverable, loaded with torpedoes, less crew, and hangar space. Also hangar space makes it better for multirole as well. While it's known as a good ship, I think many people don't realize how good of a ship it is. If I had the chance to produce a Prometheus or a Akira class vessel, I might choose the Akira, depending on the situation. And with the Prometheus being the writer's attempt to make as OP a ship as possible, that's saying a lot. 5. Intrepid: (controversial) while Voyager showed it could survive, I think it simultaneously underrated the firepower/effectiveness for such a ship. You do NOT want to face a squadron with intrepids in the battlegroup, not with those weapons at that size. That thing has the same type of phasers as the galaxy class, better torpedoes than the galaxy class, is MUCH faster, and is 1/6th the size. While we don't know how much more or less power output the intrepid class can put into the phaser arrays, I doubt it's 1/6. Pound for pound, that's an effecient ship, and I think having every other Voyager episode wrecking/disabling it underscores its abilities.

I kinda like the Niagara as well with it's wacky semi-dreadnought look it has going on with the extra Nacelle. Another oddity I like is the variation of the Intrepid class with a saucer instead of an arrow-head primary hull. (only seen in like one comic)
@karlmajerus62633 жыл бұрын
I also love the ambassador class. This design looks like the constitution and excelsior classes had a baby. The saucer is an updated constitution with an excelsior neck. The front of the secondary hull is constitution and the rear is excelsior. This design predates the Galaxy class by twenty years. Picard said Enterprise c was missing twenty years before his Enterprise launched.

The Ambassador class was clearly in several ship battles in DS9. Sacrifice of Angels for example. It is relegated to background duty though.

The Warp Delta was called the Emmette-type (or Emmette-class if you prefer). The Nimrod-class just looks like an evil version of the Prometheus-class. I personally think that the Centaur-class is also underrated.

The Emmette is technically a more primitive design, flatter, and closer to a VentureStar, seen only in Enterprise's open credits.

The Warp Delta was a real shame, one of the early warp capable combat ships from earth, it would have been awesome if they explained it was short range, lacking an antimatter reactor and having an impulse fusion reactor that generated plasma and power for warp, replying on deuterium fuel tenders to go further distances. That would also further fit in Balance of Terror when Scotty says the clearly warp capable Rom BOP has simple impulse... it lacked an antimatter reactor as well. That alone could have helped ground the Enterprise era as not the same tech with a different name and an episode or two of it malfunctioning before it just works like we got
@venomgeekmedia98864 жыл бұрын
yeah, i tried to include that in my Romulan War series with starfleet learning the importance of supply and logistics

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Well to be fair, it wouldnt be a new lesson. Many of the naval traditions of Earths wet navies would have transitioned to Starfleet quite nicely, such a logistics hurdles for ships.

The Ambassador class just has this sleek and elegant look to it. Far and away my fav Next Gen ship. Ultimately I much prefer the movie-era design aesthetics, where the ships looked like ships and not flying lava lamps lol.

Ambassador class was less of a warship then the Excelsior class which was the last "true" warship class the federation put out before the "long peace". they were more explorer and diplomatic ships, that fell out of favor during the cardasian boarder wars. Upgrading Excelsior classes and using them as heavy torpedo cruisers, they were cheaper, tougher, and better flag ships for admirals
@danielboatright88874 жыл бұрын
Ambasador Class, my headcannon anyway, was a short lived design because once the cardasian wars ended the tech had advanced enough that newer designs were on the table, and they just were not built for that long or in large numbers, and as many of the techs of TNG came about or were refined further, it was easier to focus on the Nebula class and the upcoming galaxy class, ao the ambassador class just never had the numbers built to be widely seen, a few dozen federation wide tops maybe. Dont get me wrong, I love the ship, its one of my all time favorites, but being one of the early array based phaser armed ships and coming during a change in eras of shipbuilding, it just never got produced in bulk.
@venomgeekmedia98864 жыл бұрын
yeah certainly once the dominion war comes round, its like why build a ambasador when you can build a galaxy.
@danielboatright88874 жыл бұрын
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Its not an obsolete ship, by any means, but its an out of production older model, albiet one that still has decades of service left in it thru refits. By the time of TNG/DS9 Id even downgrade it to medium or light cruiser to reflect that its an aging design. And yes, the excelcior was pretty much spammed, but it was also one of the best ships for a long period without radical advances in the systems, where the Ambasador lacked that stability in allowing it to remain a mainstay.

The olympic class ai think works for its purpose of medical ship, or even other support roles like a mobile repair ship, the spherical hull moves more travel to turbolifts, allowing specef lcocations to be reached far faster, which would make life easier for a medical ship, a giant hospital capable of triage on a mass scale, perfect if a planet suffers a calamity.
@kdrapertrucker3 жыл бұрын
On the Olympic class ship the secondary hull looks very much like the cargo ships from star trek: the animated series. Which makes sense IRL U.S. Navy hospital ships are based on modified commercial hulls.

I agree the Ambassador class is massively underrated. From what I've heard they damaged the filming model which is why we didn't see it that much.. I would've thought once they went to CGI they would've had it in the Dominion war battle sequences since it seems the Ambassador is more of a warship than Excelsior or the Galaxy class.

The Vengeance would have worked if they had gotten rid of the Saucer Section and made it basically a variation on the Galaxy class Drive Section. Just cut off everything from in front the negative hull space in the saucer and carry back the cuts to remove the rest of the saucer, but keep the bridge and the top of the neck - yes that leaves the bridge even more exposed than in a traditional Saucer and Secondary hull, but it would _look mean…_ The weapon arms can either be mounted in the Primary hull or just enough of the Saucer can be kept to house them flush with the bridge and the Saucer is just wedge which enables the missile (?) arms to have amazing coverage, even to the rear. And cutting out the main Saucer loop would make the ship look more manoeuvrable and lithe, and make the Nacelles more prominent. It's now almost got a Bird of Prey look with a ready to lunge impression. A powerhouse that isn't a stationary Captial ship in a battle, but something that can get advantage on any ship while packing more firepower than a giant Battlecruiser. I'd like to see a mock up of that, just snap the front off a model.
@TheDetailsMatter3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps I've just spent too much time watching old Blake's 7 reruns, but when the first visual for the Olympic class came up ( 6:00 ), I dared to hope someone had lifted a ship design idea from that... *_other_* Federation. To wit: A spherical engineering module housing both powerplant and warp engine cluster, a narrow, elongated wedge as the primary hull, and 3 enormously OP heavy weapons mounted on dorsal port & starboard and ventral outriggers in fixed aim along the forward axis of horizontal flight. Pure antiproton energy lances, or possibly even point-singularity cannons. Also bristling with secondary weapons, armored hull plating, and layered forcefield defense screens. Ordinarily crewed by several hundred, but sufficiently automated to allow a very small cadre of officers (say, seven of them) to operate all key functions should the need arise.
