Just pointing out, if you come across a healing/resupply spot and there is going to be extra health left over and no way to get back. The people with the least amount of health should heal, even if everyone is already healthy. Also, if you have white health, healing with a medkit turns that into green health along with the amount it always heals. So using a medkit right after going down is sometimes smarter then waiting for finding more health before healing. And a healing draught always heals the same amounts of health, regardless of your white health and resets your white health.

Regarding point 4: You are a foot knight with 150 base health and possibly more between items and build, and a medical kit would restore 80% of your health, thus giving you back 120 health minimum compared to 75 health with the potion. Thus, the elf's decision to use a medical kit on you was more efficient than letting you use a potion when it would restore less health, especially if the elf was planning to grab the tome a short distance ahead. (Tomes occupy the healing item slot).

Nice Beginners guide, but I have to disagree with sparing health until you get downed. On Champion or Legend you can die quite quick once on the ground. More important even: Your teammates have to rush to your saving and interrupt what they are doing. A lot of times a downed player is the begin of the end because all the others rush to help and no one is controlling the horde anymore, looks out for specials etc.
@Zerkovich6 жыл бұрын
Indeed. True enough. But it's really a situational judgement call I suppose. Depends how well and tight your team is playing. I think playing conservative with the healing is always wise though.
@vishsk966 жыл бұрын
Depends on what character you are tbh. If you're playing a character that gets a lot of temp hp in a short amount of time, you really should'nt be using them. as pyromancer or ws, u get temp hp in like 0.5 secs before wave even comes close to melee. Plus if you're getting hit by anything other than bosses or specials, odds are you'll get hit again. So why waste a potion when u can waste temp hp :)

This is really important at higher difficulties. If you've got a couple bombs and a character with an ult that stuns, you can lock a monster or boss in place for quite awhile. BUT, it's also important to remember that incendiary bombs don't stagger, and even though they come with an ongoing fire effect, they don't do DOT like Sienna's weapons. A corollary to Rule #4. In levels, there are often 'points of no return', and often there are healing supplies before them. TOP OFF. If everyone's already holding something in their 3 slot (3 tomes and a heal kit, say) and you come across 4 heal potions, drink them before dropping, even if you've barely been injured. You're not going to be able to go back and get them later, and that little bit of health might be the difference between a team wipe and a win. A good example of this is the Rotblood camp, before you enter the arena to fight Boddvar Ribspreader. If you have full 3 slots, drink those potions and use those heal kits as needed before re-grabbing your tomes.
@maxpower39903 жыл бұрын
When Zerk talks about not using health potions unnecessarily the opposite of that is don't be afraid of using them too. In the clip he showed at 14 mins they were about to drop off a wall with no way back to the health items so you may as well use them as they will be lost anyway once you drop off the wall. In that case using a medkit isn't wasteful even if it is for half a life bar or less. That many be the difference between going down or staying alive later.

Would also add that as soon as possible people go and mess about with their settings if they haven't done so already, as adjusting Player Outlines to 'Always On' and not just 'On', rebinding dodge and jump so they're on different keys, adjusting Field Of View (mine's personally set to 95 atm) help make things easier. Additionally, it's an opinion of mine that being too lax with your healing draughts can also cause issue, as I've seen some games spiral downwards because one person went down and another died trying to panic revive them in some fashion. Deal with as necessary. Heal when things happen might be a good idea, when a horde hits, a boss, an ambush before or after the first wave, just in any situation that might otherwise leave you too overwhelmed to heal. Addressed in the video, but would like to emphasize. Lastly, note that skaven packmasters/hookrats can be dodged in the same way as a gutter runner, and in fact in my opinion easier to dodge, same for the Chaos Lifeleech. By a step to the side during the grab action. Further, that Ratling Gunners target one person only per volley, so if it's aiming at you, maybe try to step back and let an ally past you to shoot instead of trying to outgun the ratling.

Gizzmose2002 there's really two primary play styles. There's the slow, rank and file WH40k guardsmen hold the line style play, the there's the kite and dodge wood elf war dancer style. They're often at odds because they excel in different environments. The problem is the elitists that insist their style is "right". You should learn both and use them when appropriate. Not be calling out spots to cower behind a shield for every single horde, and not diving into a choke point the game practically hands you.

A good note on bombs, if it hasn't been mentioned already: Bombs of all sorts stagger bosses. This can be particularly important when facing Chaos Spawn, who have a very damaging grab attack THAT ALSO HEALS THE BOSS. A well-timed bomb will interrupt this, however, so don't go all-out with your bombs at the start of an engagement with a Chaos Spawn. For bonus pro-points, if you're a class that has a special ability that can interrupt (Knight Kruber, Bounty Hunter Saltzpyre, etc), give your bombs to a player that doesn't (Handmaiden Kerillian, Unchained Sienna, etc). That way, they can free you if you get grabbed.

I do have to point out re healing items. If you are passing an area you can't come back to and there is a healing item there (while all players are already carrying something in that slot) you may as well use it, otherwise it is going to waste. With the exception of the potion-medpack function, where in few cases you would not want to use it. Cheers
@Micras086 жыл бұрын
Mostly decent advise, but some misunderstandings along the way. In the clip where you advocate for saving your healing all your teammates were at almost max health, 2 had healing items and one had a tome. You had healing and there was additional healing on the ground next to the ammo box - you should have healed. On champ and legend you can go down once, so it useful to try and use healing AFTER your first down (better still would ofc not being downed/not taking any damage, but hit trades will happen). If you however have an incoming horde, hear 2 assassins and a pack master lurking somewhere and now there's suddenly a boss on his way as well, you best chuck that pot if you are not above 70 health. If you go down your party will have a hard time getting you up and an even harder time getting out alive themselves if they fail :)
@ramsoofkyo90476 жыл бұрын
14:12 There're 2 meds on ground, 1 on Kruber and 1 tome. There's no Spare med there. No, he shouldn't heal, if he is fine with it. He can use temporary hp and downed hp. If specials grabs him he will be insta downed, but it will save lot of hp. No reason to waste most usefull healing item (bandage) on person which holds healing brew. "On champ and legend you can go down once, so it useful to try and use healing AFTER your first down" Useful? Lol. Otherwise you're dead. Although you give a good example. He holds med and is on low hp, but IF there would be horde approaching, or boss, he would Use that med instantly Before fight, because it's safer that way. BUT if there's no horde/boss, you can hold on with using meds as there's little risk of you not being revived after you get downed.
@Micras086 жыл бұрын
So basically we are in agreement? Like this video I would hope no-one takes my "advise" as one-fits-all - a player best knows what they themselves are capable of doing/not doing. My whole reason for commenting in the first place was because of this. I see a lot of people either refusing to ever use their healing or chucking a pot/kit whenever they miss a sliver of health. Both are in my opinion terrible approaches to health management, you have to consider the availability of healing items, the current and future situation as well as your own estimated chance of surviving when deciding whether to heal or not. In regards to your clip I'll concede that I have maybe switched a moment or two around in my head when making the comment, because clearly you are correct and in that instant opting not to heal was in fact the only "correct" play in my mind :P
@ramsoofkyo90476 жыл бұрын
Basically we are, but he shouldn't use med as you mentioned now :P Especially in that spot. There're 2 grims ahead and possiblity of no additional healing items, until either wheat field (behind rock), tome location or guaranteed couple at entrance to windmill. There's horde and boss before next meds. Players with low hp don't need to engage in combat in frontline, they could be on special-watch-duty. Also players without grim can die and respawn. Some meds should be kept for grims carriers, even if they're so far on full hp. Of course as you said depends on conditions, horde or boss would make healing that low hp player a bigger gain. Lastly I try to open my mind for other tactics than "In my opinion..". During mission you might take some quick irrational decisions, but when aproaching healing items you should take a break and think it though.
@Micras086 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. Ye well we shouldn't agree on everything just for the sake of agreeing that would be boring :) I find the most useful approach to playing with people of different mindsets is to follow through in regards to what the most players are doing at any given time. Fx I had a game where some guy thought he was the boss of everyone else, yelling his mouth of at every chance at how idiotic his teammates were. Granted the host made some really wacky calls, but me and the other rando followed him because we were stronger together. The mad "boss" player went on ahead, got killed by an assassin while alone and left the game :P No matter what you perceive as being the "correct play" keep in mind that most players will need the support of their teammates, so better just follow the flow. And if you "need" to sway your fellow teammates, best not be an asshole about it, if you don't get kicked you will at least go down to the bottom of the revive-first-pile ^^
@ramsoofkyo90476 жыл бұрын
depends... you shouldn't follow group and attack what they attack. Formation should be 2-2. If 2 players are engaged in melee combat, don't run towards and start slashing (unless it's the only way from which horde incomes). Keep distance and make sure they are not getting attacked from behind. Or be on specials duty stand and look around, mark elite units so they can prepare before hand. Kicking players is always a dick move. Unless someone on purpose ruins your run, like throwing grim away or rushing solo while carrying grim, pulling enemies. As for mad boss and teamplay, there's difference in complaining about stuff and ordering how game will be played. I usually complain about throwing bombs, even more about throwing them on bosses. I mean couple bombs during one fight. Best argument ever is "I've perk to boost damag,e so shut up", epic 20% for 5s. Wasted healing items and I "order" (writing and explaining it) not to waste bandage. Of course it's almost impossible to stop someone who's using bandage, without voice chat. Shooting them once may or may not stop them. So I get into talk about usefulness of bandage and healing tome carriers.. and 3 out of 4 times I'm getting kicked. By ordering I mean using voice chat, because otherwise it's kinda hard to cooperate things.. Maybe worth mentioning, I'm usually using 2 items with additional stamina, so I can block and push more. With additional damage to enemy that attacked me.

Damage avoidance: - Know your reach. Weapons have different effective ranges in melee. No need to ram your face down the throat of a ratman, when you could stand well outside his reach and hack him down. -Know when to hold, know when to fold. You can't save everyone when they get jumped or grabbed. Blindely running in and trying to get a teammate up might kill you and your two remaining mates. If it's unsure you can get to the player in need and rez them without taking significant damage - huddle up and go to the downed guy with two guys at your back. -Know your surroundings. Map awareness is more important then heropower. Not every wall is safe to hug as enemies might spawn or crawl over them and getting hit like a fastball over a ledge is never fun. Learn where bosses spawn, where to fight them safely and where you can fight hordes.

Also: with Halberd, you can always cycle between light and heavy attacks. The first two heavy attacks match the first two light attacks. When you do the first light attack and go to Heavy, it'll match that attack, then it will reset as though you had blocked, allowing you to constantly flow of light > heavy > light > heavy for crowd control, or start heavy and alternate into light for armored elites and it will do the same.

I do have a small criticism of The Greedy Elf and Caring Dwarf story. We don't know the full context of what is happening here. We're not given all of the information. Based on what we see on screen we do know a few things. That elf is a Waystalker. Her passive ability is to regenerate health up to 50% maximum. The thing about this though is that it does not remove black and white screen from being downed too many times. She may very well be black and white and we don't know it. The dwarf and elf are carrying grimoires. Grimoire carriers rise in health priority since if they die completely you will lose that grimoire. So this scenario could easily be renamed The Wise Elf and Foolish Dwarf depending on the parameters mentioned. Based on the low levels of the players and the fact that none of you have curse resistance I'm presuming this is a Veteran level match at best. The point I'm making here is that health distribution, especially at higher difficulty levels, is more complicated than it first appears. Though that elf definitely shouldn't have taken the second healing pot in any situation after healing herself.

Dodging does not have unlimited uses, depending on your weapon choice you may have as many as 6 dodges before they grow shorter and less useful, or as few as 1 which is the case with the largest weapons in the game such as the two handed hammers. Of course with a refresh of about a second you probably won't notice this on anything but the largest weapons, which also tend to have the shortest dodge distance as well. Damage vs Infantry and Skaven is practically worthless given that the toughest Infantry on Legend is the Chaos Raider/Bulwark with 39 HP, no Armor, and possibly Breakable Shield. While the toughest non-boss Skaven is a toss up between the Stormvermin with 39 HP, Armor, and possible Unbreakable Shield, or the Packmaster with 75 HP and Resistance to Stagger. Compared to the Chaos Warrior with 120 HP and Full Armor. You can also shove or stagger the Runner if you time it right. Very nice video! The one thing I'd like to add is that Health Potions overwrite your white temporary health while medical kits adds on top of it. Had me confused at first since in the first game a health potion after being downed basically gave you full health but it's the other way around here.

2. know where your loot is.. sounds obvious but every resource you don't use.. is potentially shooting yourself in the foot later.. that barrel you saw could have been used as a tactical retreat/backstop/increase in damage/stagger.. pots you easily get more damage out over entire course of the game.. more damage = more effective player.. particularly in helping teammates save face against enemy.. or in reducing differences between damage in team overall.. if you don't know any good spots/locations.. a well placed pot can become your escape route.. and if you miss a pot, say you had one on you already and you missed another.. you could have easily drank the pot and took the other.. you could have also taken a bomb.. again use up your bomb or give the bomb to someone else.. it's surprising in this game actually how many resources people miss out.. but they all count..

Honestly, it's more relevant with the changes. Before you could put on your solo pants and carry a team, but now I'm hearing from reddit and the official forums that the changes made it too hard to do. More weapons and classes are viable for end game.

Good guide! Thanks for your efforts, Zerkovich. I'll also add a pointer for new players. Communicate! If you need help, speak up. If there's a resource that someone else needs point it out. If a team mate is falling behind or goes down tell the team so they'll know to stop moving forward and allow recovery of the ailing team mate. Communication makes all the difference between a fun successful run or a frustrating total team kill.

I appreciate you making this video, friend. I would however have wished that at the time of making, you would have added the catch to the heals part that people probably shouldn't heal Zealots. Even now, after the auto-block while reviving has been patched into the game, I will still recommend holding down the block key while reviving. Auto-blocking stops the moment the revive process ends, meaning your character goes back to neutral state. Even if you press the block button right after, the delay between neutral to blocking may allow attacks to slip through. Especially if you are surrounded by enemies and some may already have entered into their attack animations.

Pretty good guide, completely agree with the general points. I might add that firebomb can be useful against bosses and patrols when the bomb trait called shrapnel is equipped, which causes every enemy hit by the firebomb to take 25% more damage.
@ramsoofkyo90476 жыл бұрын
mhm, that's a LOT of damage boost. Then later on party doesn't have bombs in critical situation, because "Hey I have trinket that allows me to waste bombs on demand. Don't complain that I didn't had bomb to throw on enemies that were attacking you, when you're downed. Anyway you suck, because you get downed. Lol. You slow ass."

You can certainly get a hit in when the boss is focusing you, at least the less aggressive ones like the Rat Ogre or Stormfiend. It's all a matter of practice and learning their attack patterns. Don't forget some of their attacks are unblockable too so you should try to dodge every boss attack while you block.

@mattxander89765 жыл бұрын
LazyGibbon this is a little late, but.. Reason most people dislike the elf is because the players using her are planks of wood when it comes to team work. Team mate running ahead of the rest of the group? It’s the elf. Player shooting into the team to get that one special kill? It’s the elf. Player lone wolfing the entire level and getting picked off by a strangler, leech or assassin, and also leaving the team down a member at all times? Yup..usually the elf. Don’t be that kind of elf.

The game just went on sale and I bought it. Recomended it to one of my best friends and he bought it while i was downloading it. I sent him this very video for I think is a good guide for beginers. We played L4D for years so we get the overall feeling but the combat mechanics and stuff are new to me, and unlike L4D you cant just play easy mode by yourself to get used to the maps and gameplay. Or can you? (Edit) Nevermind, you can. I'm 2 acts in and I'm hooked on Saltzpyre, dunno why is everyone hoggin Kerilian all the time
@MisterFoxton4 жыл бұрын
In the easy difficulties Kerillian can run with the Swift Bow. As a Waystalker it comes with 100 arrows, plus you can choose a talent which regenerates arrows very quickly. It's very range friendly so new players love it. In higher difficulties the Hand Maiden is quite tanky but suffers no mobility loss thanks to attack speed buffs and super dodge and the Shade is super killy. Every class has their benefits for sure though, but Kerellians appeal to the new players more immediately.
@jamesking47365 жыл бұрын
I wish more people would watch this, I like to play the dwarf ranger with a 2 handed axe and a shotgun, I do pretty good at avoiding damage and dealing it out but often my team mates will grab all the dropped ammo every if they only shot once or twice witch at one point leaves me without my "fuck you I win" gun and forced to use my two handed axe, witch does deal tons of damage and goes though armor like butter (and if I smoke bomb I turn into a ninja with a axe) but it puts me in alot more harms way that I want to be!

Best thing I ever learned was that you can push bosses off ledges. I've saved 2 runs, one by shouting a rat ogre into the canal as Witch Hunter, and the other by bombing another ogre into the ravine just before the ritual in Decay. In the first, I would have had to defeat an ogre on champion with two players. You don't get bonus points for kills, so if you can cheese the bosses, go for it.

Use heals to top off before going over a drop, no point leaving heals behind that you cannot get back to. especially on higher difficulties. UNLESS, you have a Zealot Salt on your team, they tend to want to get low on health to get damage buffs

This video should be part of the Vermintide 2 Store page on steam, these are still very essential tips. #4 a Big part of this is not leaving resources behind. It's become a popular habit for people to ignore health pickups when they are at 80-90% health. Top off your health instead of leaving it!

not true, most ironbreaker's I run into prefer to keep their allies up since they are immune to an attack every 7-10 seconds, have a lot of HP, and have higher DR so their HP goes a long way unlike all those squishy 100 HP heroes. Slayers on the other hand...well they just eat damage since they are a melee only with no shield, no DR, and 100 base HP (which is BS btw why this has not been changed I don't know), a bad slayer eats damage all the time and thus is always hogging all the healing

At dropdowns where a single special can pounce a slow teammate, if you have dropped down, check to see if a well-placed grenade or your ultimate can save your teammate. It's better to dish out some friendly fire from a grenade or to have a teammate use their ultimate too early than to have a teammate spend forever on a packmaster's pole waiting to die and respawn.
