I am 63 years of age and under 5'2" tall. It is extremely difficult to find a one piece swimsuit what doesn't hang off my bum or isn't too long in the crotch area. I find a 2 piece with a mid rise bikini bottom is the most flattering for making me look and feel slimmer with my rectangle shaped torso. Unfortunately, there is one guest who visits our condo pool each year and makes a comment towards my swimsuit. Thank you, Chi, for always being kind with your comments about bodies, body shapes, and what we need to look and feel good in our own skin.

Take no notice of that rude guest - their behaviour is about their own insecurities, and not about you! I am sure you look just fine in your swimsuit. Enjoy your swimming.

I am of average height but with a long torso and short legs I have the opposit problem. Last year was the first time I bought a swimsuit again - in a long size. Wit every other swimsuit my boobs would fall out and the straps will turn me into Quasimodo. I also can't buy rompers so after learning how to sew I made my own.

I'm not sewing "from scratch" yet (that's the goal), but I'm starting to do more and more alterations on my own. Goodness me, some people are rude! I hope you can ignore them and that they don’t ruin your day. Swimming should be for everyone. One of my friends, who is 70, had some unwelcome male attention at the pool just because her swimsuit had a ruffle on it. Apparently that was flirty! Who knows what goes through people’s minds.

I don’t want to buy a swimsuit right now because they all have those horrible super-high cut leg openings, like in the 80s. There’s no way I’m getting a bikini wax for one of those! I only wear a swimsuit, maybe, once a decade. I’m neither a warm beach nor a water person, our beaches here in Northern California are freezing, the usual wear is long trousers and a down jacket. Love your tips, though, Chi❤

What do you think about the swim bottoms that look like a tiny skirt, almost like a tennis skort, or swim shorts? I have one suit with the matching swim skirt, and I thought this was a good solution because it creates a look almost like a mini dress - it also has a lot of confusing pattern going on. Swimsuit shopping is one of the hardest purchases for fashion!

How do you feel in it? I think that's what's most important. I have a high-waisted swim skort that I've paired with flowy swim tops and sometimes even with bikini tops! Either can be comfortable for me at times. I am going to explore her suggestion of lower waists, although I'm not sure that'll work for me THIS summer... ☺

I love swim skorts in particular because I have athletic legs. I find they add flow and a slimming effect to the thighs (akin to shorts that aren't squeezing your thighs; rather, they are a bit spacious all around). I hope that helps! As many have said, find what's comfortable and enjoy what you're wearing. Sometimes those that criticize do it because they're insecure and unhappy in their own skin/clothes and try to take down those who are comfortable and enjoying their lives.

I tried one of these skirted swimsuits, I didn’t want to hide anything, I just thought it would be cute for drinks after the pool, etc. But, it held so much water that I got really cold after getting out of the water, and it kept sticking around my legs, making it really different to walk.🙂

Can't go wrong with a swim skirt if it nips you in the waist and creates a fit and flare shape (hourglass-ish) on your body. May not work for everyone's bodies. I'm just speaking generally.

Target sells a swim skirt this year (Kona Sol, Women’s high waist suppliex swim skirt) that is the best I have ever found because the material is like a very lightweight tennis skirt. It’s not a swimsuit material. It dries in a snap and hits right under your belly button so it gives you the best shape. If your interested in swim skirts at all you have to try this one.

Me, too. I have a tiny frame, everything is just scaled down, as in both my parents. My head, face, feet and hands are at least 1/4 smaller than other women my height, it’s very apparent in non-family group photos. In my youth I was 5’6”, but at 63, I’m now just over 5’4”. I always kept my weight about ten lbs. lower than that recommended for my height, I felt too chubby at the “normal” weight, and newer, more refined BMI charts, taking frame size into account, agree with this. I also have minimal muscle mass, as well as a very narrow bone structure, I think it goes with the territory. You might be short-waisted, too, as I am. It took me years to figure out why top hems and straps were so long and necklines so low on me, this was why. If your wrist measurement is 6 inches or less, you have a small frame (I read).🙂

Am a 61 year old petite woman with curves… I have experimented with styles and lenght of dress…I suggest, long dress ends in the ankle(thinnest part) For short dresses, end just by the knee(thinnest part) especially if petite woman has thick thights. if you want to show the thighs..a slit will be suitable.
