Technically that was actually the same Ben Grimm from the fantastic Four comics. Those thing segments had a backstory where some magic based villain deaged Ben back into a teenager to render the fantastic four's powerhouse less of a threat.

Fun fact. During a time when the Fantastic Four were off world, they got a substitute team to fill in for them on Earth. Ant-Man, She-Hulk, Medusa and a singer called Darla Deering, who got her hands on a "Thing Suit" to become Miss Thing. A suit she activated with two rings..... And a code phrase.....

Oh my God I remember that episode of the thing when a steamroller runs over his ring flattening it out so the thing ask the driver to go in reverse to make it normal size again and I have no idea why that stuck in my memory so much

If you remember, the Teen Titans cartoon paid homage to The Thing, when Cyborg infiltrates the HIVE Academy and had a holographic disguise that he change by making two rings touch and it looks like he changes from a Like Cage copy to a man made of rock.

4:56 I mean, the Ninja Turtles and The Mask weren’t exactly kid friendly upon their comic debut. Heck, the Mask made Deadpool looked tame by comparison. And as funny as Deadpool is when he’s free from the censor, he’s still funny even when his swearing and violence is cut down. If anything you need family friendly versions of these characters to get the small tikes interested... Except maybe Spawn.

I'm a child of the 70s/80s and as I got into adulthood and looked back, I hated that the writers of some of these animated shows underestimated the intelligence of children who ALREADY read comics and dumbed down shit all the time. Magneto asking for directions in a damn car. Come on!!

Concur. But in reality, they had no choice. Unlike the comics, animated adaptations had to follow a STRICT and I mean STRICT Standards and Practices regarding network programming aimed at children. It wouldn't be until the early 90s that said restrictions started to slowly loosen (Fox being at the time the forefront of this). Most of the writers/storyboard directors didn't seem to mind to some degree as it was either "confirm or starve or something-something to a guy for a sandwich". There were a few exceptions to the rules (Thundar FTW), but it was what it was.

There was one episode of The Thing that revealed that he was actually the adult Ben Grimm and his teenage form was the result of an attempt to cure him. I remember a scene in an episode with another cure attempt that culminated in a massive explosion and a crater. The girl from the show looked over the edge of the crater and called out "Benjy? Thing? Mr. Grimm?" Teenage Ben climbed out of the crater, sadly declaring that the cure hadn't worked.

One of the Thing episodes that stuck in my mind is an episode where the Thing is talking to the shows token scientist, wanting him to turn him back into Ben Grim, and the scientists daughter was sad because that would mean she would never see her best friend again. That meant that the kid wasn't a real person. They could have said that the kid was just Grim as a child, nope just that if the experiment worked the Thing would be Ben Grim and the kid would be no more.

Imo Ultraforce was quite interesting back in the day. The comics and the animated series didn't come across as an x men knock off to me. There may have been small similarities to both marvel and dc characters but overall the characters seemed quite original. Imo image comics were closer to being marvel knockoffs. The wildcats cartoon was more of a copy of the x men series. Big respect to Jim Lee and Co but 90s image comics were horrible in a good way.

I felt United They Stand wasn't too bad. It definitely wasn't the greatest, but it had some good moments, especially with Ultron, and to be honest, it did a good job with Giant Man and Wasp. But those three were done so much more justice in Earth's Mightiest Heroes, which deserved to go on for another three seasons.

I also fondly remember The Swamp Thing animated series. As well as other mature series that were also marked for kids that probably shouldn’t have been. Things like the Aliens toy line, as well as Robocot, and Savage Dragon cartoon series.

There are also quite a few new Comic Cartoons i really dislike, such as the copypasted and blant new Marvels shows (Avengers Assemble, Agents of Smash, the newest Spider-Man cartoon etc.), Teen Titans GO and other shows. But there is one in particular i despise, mainly because it‘s the laziest and most blant comic cartoon i have ever seen, but the masses praised it as the best show ever for mainly being a Comic Cartoon show that „empowers women and the LGBT Community“, and that show is DC‘s Harley Quinn. The show is literally every scatch sitcom ever, but the only difference is, it‘s DC. Every single character in the show stays *bareley* true to their Comic counter part with Batman possibly being the only exception. The main driving „Humor“ of the show is: „lol, look at me, i am so random“ with real life controversial topics and random violence added to it. Yes, Deadpool‘s entire humor is basically the same thing, but he is also near immortal so he can be in those crazy action scenes and his jokes also have some level of actual thought behind it. It hurts to know that such big pile of lazy s_t has 2 seasons and all the praises of the world, whilst Deathstroke Knights & Dragons was dropped after 1 episode...

I was always told that the reason the Human Torch was replaced by HERBIE was because there was a thought that children would try to imitate Torch and let themselves on fire. That was the reason that Torch was in the first season of FF and not in the second season.

I remember the Flintstones/Thing cartoon as a kid. Having never read a FF comic at that point (I was 8 in 1980) the whole ring thing didn’t bother me. It sort of reminded me of the Wonder Twins. Anyway, I just thought of a connection between the Flintstones and the Thing - the Flintstones are living during the Stone Age and The Thing is made up of rocks, or stones.

Plans also included guest appearances by the X-Men, utilizing the Toronto-based cast from the 1990s series as a few of them already worked on this show. Other proposed episode plots include Bruce Banner appearing to help the team when Ant-Man fell ill to gamma radiation exposure during a fight with the villain Egghead, Thor and his brother Loki in a two-part episode (there was even a Thor toy made for the show's line of action figures). I watched reruns of that Fantasic Four cartoon in the 90s and I never knew the Human Torch was a thing until they appeared the Spider-Man animated series. I remember being confused because the robot wasn't with them and they had a fire guy instead. I also recall being excited for that Avengers series because my favorite Marvel characters were Cap and Iron Man due to having the Captain America & the Avengers game on the Sega Genesis. I was super bummed when they weren't even in the show aside from the opening titles. However Iron Man did get his own cartoon in the 90's but it was pretty bad too lol

Did you know that terminator 2 and Aliens almost became animated series themselves and that Spawn (not the HBO series) also almost had a animated series for kids. Here's something even though it became an animated series, it was just as bad as it's movie counterpart, Attack of the killer tomatoes.

Better still about that Magneto episode is that he didn't even GET the directions from that stop; the man simply said it was a long way off and offered to gas him up, and Magneto flipped his shit, tearing the place apart with his powers. Not to mention that mind-blowing resolution, that makes you wonder why ANYONE would ever be afraid of him. Also, Swamp Thing had a cartoon?

I'm one of the few who actually loved the late 90's Avengers cartoon and don't get the hate. I've seen much worse. Didn't know about that Magneto episode in the FF cartoon that he actually asked for directions and riding a car. That's something you'd see in the 60's Batman cartoon. Some honorable mentions I'd like to add: Both first seasons of the 90's Fantastic Four and Iron Man cartoons, most of the 90's Spider-Man cartoon, Savage Dragon, and the MTV Spider-Man cartoon.

honestly I think the ultraforce cartoon was pretty good, and you probably should cut it some slack given that it was based on what was at the time of brand new comic book universe. RoboCop also got a second Animated Series in the late 90s called RoboCop: Alpha Commando which was a direct continuation of the RoboCop animated series.
