Oh, I remember that vampirism quest very well. When I gave all the ingredients needed to make a cure, the witch told me that she needs time and I have to come back later. So, I stepped outside, only to find out that it was morning and I was on the last stage of vampirism. I began to die very quickly, couldn't fast travel anywhere, so my only option was to come back to the witch house. But the best part was when I hit "wait" button, the game informed me, that I "cannot wait in this location". Yeah...

Fun Fact: In the PS3 Game of the Year version of Oblivion, this quest is totally bugged, and the lady won't accept the Bloodgrass even if you have it. She'll just tell you about it. The only way to fix it, is to buy the Normal Version of Oblivion for PS3, change the file on PC so that your GOTY version is read as a normal Oblivion save file; and run the quest on the regular Normal Oblivion; before swapping it back. Or just don't play the PS3 version... that's fair too.

you think the cure vampirism quest is bad? it's even worse in the german version because of a translation error. you see whoever translated quest msut not have been the same guy who translated objects so what happened is that nightshade, one of the ingredients needed for curing vampirism, was translated differently, so in teh quest it says that you need "nachtschatten" which is a literal translation of teh words night and shade, however the night shade plant and alchemy ingredients are translated as "tollkirsche" which is what the plant is actually called in german. so unless you are aware of the translation error, you will spend the rest of your years trying to find an item which does no texist in the game.

Umbra is primarily used by edgelords and noobs, as you get the vastly superior Goldbrand much later on, with it's fire enchantment is overall stronger than umbra, combine it with either azura's star, and you have infinite recharges of it's enchantment, provided you aren't an idiot, and have even a basic soul trap spell or weapon. As 4 the quest itself, the mask is worthless, yet makes the best sacrificial lamb during main quest, as it is the best least valuable daedric artifact that you can acquire legitimately without using duplication, exploits cheating, or use of console commands. The cure for vampirism is even worse if you play the game in german. The witch tells you to collect Nightshade - "Nachtschatten" in the german version. Sounds easy. So you rome around trying to find all the ingredients, until you got them all - well, except "Nachtschatten". So you search harder - check every barrel, flip every rock, search through the wilderness, ask all the merchants, check areas you haven't visited yet, search through the wilderness, ask the witch again, kill all the merchants, and search through the wilderness. But you wound find any "Nachtschatten". Because the item you searching for is not called "Nachtschatten" but "Tollkirsche". Yes that's right, the witch tells you to get "Nachtschatten" but they gave the "item" the name "Tollkirsche". And since you need 5 of them, it's unlikely that you will give them too the witch by accident. Good luck figuring that shit out. In case you were like me, with no access to internet at that time, there is an easy solution; JUST COLLECT 5 PIECES OF EVERY INGREDIENTS IN THE GAME!!!

You don't even need to do that. Just use the smallest section on each option, noting which ones give you negative affection or positive affection. Then, only use the smallest section on the negative options and anything but the smallest section on the positive options. Do this enough and you will max out the npcs affection from talking. Bonus points if you do this while your weapon is out, which automatically causes everyone to have -10 affection. After you're done, just put your weapon away for a free +10 boost.

so we bought the GOTY edition of Oblivion when it came out and my dad contracted vampirism. he did the quest to cure it but ran into a game breaking glitch that made it so the potion wouldn't stop brewing, make the quest impossible to complete. we found out later the only way to fix the glitch was to buy the non GOTY version and load your save on it. and thats the story on why i have 2 copies of oblivion for ps3

You can do the 6 gates in like an hour. Just...don't fight anything. Run and jump and maybe kill the guy with the keys and that's pretty much it. The only real reason to stay longer is to either explore if you are not bored yet, being obsessive about it, grinding skillpoints and collecting loot. Like finding the two secret items in a half-sunk tower.

all i remember about oblivion was when i first started the game i would always focus on and finish the arcane university quests first so i could become the head mage or whatever so i could get access to a certain arcane enchanter. then i would find an item with 25% chameleon and disenchant it and use that to enchant 4 pieces of armour with the 25% chameleon thus being 100% chameleon. i would then play the rest of the game totally invisible and explore every gate of oblivion without alerting any enemies. good times.

i was one of the people who hated the quest i think most people hate it because they see it as a waste of time i think it was the pacing that was the problem because before that quest you had to do the blood of the deadra and the blood of the divine quest which took a while so at that point i was tired of going through large dungeon's to collect 1 item and i was tired of the over extremely boring oblivion landscape that made me think it was made to make you depressed and stupid puzzles that made me want to commit suicide for basically no reward (at the time i didn't know the sigil stones could be used for enchanting and i saw the only use for them was to roll down a hill) just to get like 20 guy's who just get in your way and will die anyway

By returning the sword Umbra to Vile, it starts the whole Infernal City conflict. It actually really interesting. For instance, people who hold the sword Umbra, slowly have the person Umbra leak into their soul (or something like that). After that they start going insane and call themselves Umbra. It happens in the second book, where the Dark Elf guy and the prince guy meet the person in possession (forget their names). It was a great series and makes Vile's quest make more sense.

I would dare say that Allies for Bruma isn't even that bad, until you get to CHEYDINHAL that is. The Wayward Knight is just so much worse than the entire Allies for Bruma quest (in my opinion) because it is the only one that requires you to do more than just kill stuff and close the gate AND get the reqard. Instead, you have to help 2 complete morons that refuse to go back even though the rest of their friends died. Not to mention, if you want the max leveled reward for the quest (like I did, both the Thornblade and the Staff of Indarus are pretty good) you have to go in there above level 20 and pray they don't die to the higher leveled Daedra so after EVERY SINGLE FIGHT you can just wait to heal them. THIS in my eyes is possibly the worst quest I've ever done next to the vampire cure quest.

Yeah, The Wayward Knight is terrible. What I do now, since without console commands it would be near impossible to keep Indarys alive, is refuse to talk to him, and bypass the gate at the bridge in the Oblivion gate. That way, he can't follow you into the tower, and he will survive you closing the gate. It's a bit of a "cheat" I suppose, but he dies so quickly that it's a nightmare trying to keep him alive when following the normal route of the quest.

I was surprised to see the Umbra quest on this list. Umbra is hands down the best sword in the game, the quest (while not extraordinary) is short and to the point, and if you keep the sword but hold off on returning it to clavicus, it remains a quest item and has a weight of 0.

Lore-wise, the Vampirism quest makes sense. You talk to someone about it, their first thoughts are to the face of the Mages, Raminus. He'll at least know what he's talking about. Raminus/most of the higher Mages know of Hassildor's own vampiric affliction, which no one else in Cyrodiil knows (outside of maybe The Dark Brotherhood). So it makes sense that Hassildor is the logical person to go to, he's the leading authority on Vampirism due to his position. However Hassildor doesn't want to play his hand either, because he defaults to not knowing you for this quest (rip@BethesdaBranching, it works if you don't actually know him) and so he sends you off to his most likely lead (he may in fact know she can do it). It wouldn't make sense for Joe Schmoe to know of this random witch as she doesn't exactly do the potion often. It also wouldn't make sense for Joe Schmoe to know Hassildor is an authority in vampirism because that would be the end of his rule quickly if he drew attention in such a way. It does make sense for someone to just pass the buck to Raminus, odds are he knows something that can help and he does. So he's the logical conclusion. It's annoying, but it's supposed to be. Vampirism is something you have to really want, and it's something that shouldn't be frivolously received and removed. I hate the quest mind you, and I agree with it being on the list. However lore-wise it works. I also don't agree with Clavicus Vile being on the list when you didn't list Nirnroot's quest and the Reinstatement into the Mages Guild quest. Both of these are dumpster-tier quests. Clavicus is just garbage bag-tier if only because they could have done more.

RyanKaufman that's an excuse. The lore is made up. The designers could easily have made the lore fit with less people. It's an incredibly minor quest. It should be simple and it shouldn't take too much time to do it. They did a much better job in skyrim. Inkeeper tells you about dude, dude knows what to do, you need to do one task that's not too difficult and then you can get a cure. I disagree. My comment is saying the lore makes sense, but it has no bearing on the real meat of the quest. The real quest is with the witch, and that's where the quest enters tedium and nonsense. They could have made the lore fit with less people, they could have made the list bigger. That part of the quest means nothing, it's simply flavor dressing what will be one of the worst quests in the game, which more is better than less in that regard. Certainly better than fuckin' reinstatement of the Mages Guild. There's no reason you should be upset about going to see four people to get rid of a disease that is supposed to have no cure. The fact they even allow you to get rid of it with a quest is making the game more accessible. Which is fine, but vampirism should be permanent. It shouldn't be something easy - in Skyrim it *is* easy. You say it's enough effort to avoid the affliction, but it really isn't. It's way too simple and vampirism becomes just another playtoy like everything else in the game. It should be a permanent grievance you have to bear for being foolish enough to let it happen to you. Either you roll with the punch or you reload the save, simple. But Bethesda doesn't want to handle things that way, so they make an easy quest to accommodate. That's why I prefer Oblivion, the quest is horrific but it's a last resort if you absolutely cannot stand being a vampire anymore.

Tears of a saviour is actually a pretty good quest. Its pretty well written, has good lore, and if you read all the notes and books youre handed, it actually makes gathering the tears unteresting :)

You gave me severe flashbacks to a side character I had back when Oblivion was a new game. I caught vampirism and immediately sought out a way to cure it due to the horrific detriment the sun had become, and I was not willing to play the game in never ending darkness. The quest was so stupid and convoluted that I totally gave up on it and abandoned the character.. at least it wasn't my main one. Later, my ex was playing the game, and decided that she really wanted to be a vampire, she was into Anne Rice's novels and stuff. I BEGGED her not to do it, especially not on her main Khajiit character, because she loved that character so much and really identified with her. But she just wouldn't listen.. She ended up abandoning it, too, and her character. She got really angry and despondent for a while, and sadly watched me play through the game on my main character. She was so damn sad about it and I felt absolutely terrible, though I did everything I could. Back when the game was new, my ex and I were 21 and 22, respectively. I feel so bad for the people trying to deal with that shit when they were just kids..

Also if the sword is hotkeyed, you get to keep it when escaping from jail. The Umbra Sword is definitely the best sword at level 1 in Oblivion!*

I pretty much always choose charisma-based skills in RPGs. The problem with this speechcraft is: it makes no sense! What is that minigame about? You have to admire, boast, joke, and coerce to somebody; and you can say the person hates 2 of these. And you have to do this. What? If I know somebody doesn't like boasts, why would I do it in real life?! And another thing kicks in: you do these 4 things... with different, revolving intensity. What?! Why would I be limited to certain levels of intensity? Why can't I choose? Some deadric divines force me to? In summary, the whole point is: what does this minigame represent from real life? Nothing! It would make way much more sense if you had to check somebody's reaction and choose the best options for 4 different topics (each topic can have different set of reactions). More realistic. Or, you know, I wouldn't mind if speechcraft was a completely passive skill. Increasing with each conversation. Yeap, it is a pain in the ass, but at least makes sense. You want to be good at speech - spend much time gossiping with beggars and citizens. There could be also major bonuses for choosing good persuading options in dialogues.

It is fun at first because you find cool stuff and fight lots of enemies so you level up your skills faster but when you decide to close every gate you find and at a higher levels you mostly see them populated with Xivilai and their clannfear, other clannfear, daedroth and storm atronach it gets pretty tedious. The randomness of the sigil stone you receive at the end can be rewarding or disappointing.

For me it's Paranoia. The quest has you follow people around Skingrad from 6 AM to 12 AM. While following them you will see them do exciting thing such as: Sitting in the chapel, slowly walking around Skingrad, working from 8 AM to 5 PM. The only good thing about this quest is that you get to kill the quest giver at the end. And that you get to hear Wes Johnson talking to himself alot.

My first play through I thought it was quite neat. It was a break from usual "bash your sword until you're through" -quests. Obviously replaying it was nightmare, because you knew it was pointless (actually it would have been quite neat twist, that after hours of sneaking behind you would actually witness something which would confirm his suspicions, or at least some kind of secret reward of your efforts)

I always thought the trick in the Clavicus Vile quest is returning the sword to him, Umbra has no weight, infinite durability and scales with your level (if you don't complete the quest) and has very very high damage, while the mask is pure dogshit, that alone made it an interesting quest for me.

In tears of the saviour, I could never find the final tear - then I looked up a walk-through to see the location of each individual tear, and one of them was just missing from where it was supposed to be. Then I realised that I must have accidentally kicked one of the tears by running over it, and in tradition with Oblivion physics, it presumably went flying into some unknown corner of that map and I after spending hours of looking for it, I gave up and it was impossible to finish the quest. Also, I did stumbled upon the grey void in that quest too. I mean, I don't necessarily blame the developers for not elaborating too much on that map just for one quest, but they at least should have made it impossible to access the view from the top. Pretty lazy.

You left out one of the most annoying parts of "Tears of the Savior", the fact that you can go back and talk to the guy who gave you the quest and he'll give you a bunch of potions to protect you from the cold that's hurting you...oh? That sounds useful you say? Well it is, unfortunately THE QUEST NEVER TELLS YOU THAT YOU CAN DO THAT!! I discovered it by accident when I got fed up and couldn't find the last few tears (did I mention the compass does NOT show you where the tears are?) and I happened to talk to the guy a few days later, and he's like "Oh from the conditions you described, these might come in handy" AND HE GAVE ME A BUNCH OF POTIONS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO USEFUL EARLIER!

@Stephen Skinner I'm not asking it to hold my hand. I don't mind that I need to find 5 tears, I don't even mind that they're not shown by the compass. However, when I'm constantly losing health via frost damage and I can't take my time to actually LOOK AROUND it becomes a problem. There's a difference between spending hours on a quest based on difficulty and feeling triumphant, vs spending hours on a quest because it's tedious and you go "God fucking FINALLY" when you finish it. Adding in the frost damage was just a lazy way to make a simple quest that would take maybe 10 mins longer. Which is a shame considering the quest starts out so nicely, having you decipher the map to even FIND the cave in the first place was a lot of fun.

You can do Oblivion gates in a few minutes if you wish. Just leg it to the top without fighting anything and take the sigil stone, they're pretty easy if you want them to be. Invisibility is also an option if you need them to be any easier.

being a vampire in skyrim is nothing, really. just do most your outside quests during the night and you'll have 0 issue, especially if you have dawnguard because then you don't really have to worry about towns people attacking you.

Abdulaziz Al-amri being a vampire in Skyrim is a lot better because in Oblivion if your in the sun you take constant damage but in Skyrim if your out in the sun your magic, stamina, and health just don’t regenerate, which can be rectified if you have potions, the respite perk, or regeneration enchantments and potions. If you want to cure your vampirism then all you need is a filled black soul gem and you talk to a guy in Morthal

I love my Umbra sword it's the one sword I've used for a long time across many levels! And in regards to vampires in Oblivion I love it! I run pretty fast and also have shadowmere and since I played Better Vampires in Skyrim which is based on Oblivion I knew what I was getting into. On a side note... try being a longterm werewolf/lycan in Morrowind 😉 even the game dev's didn't intend for it to be permanent since the main quest involves curing yourself but it adds a huge power boost but an even bigger disadvantage which adds a gigantic challenge boost

@@TheCantinaChannel That's still a crappy reason to put it on this list. You still had to go out of your way to get out of the glade and leave the boundaries of the map. It's not like Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing, where simply driving in one direction for a minute will cause you to leave the game.

The worst part about the cure for vampirism quest is that on the PS3, where i originally played the game, she refuses to take the Bloodgrass, making it impossible to cure and thus impossible to ever see that hidden room in Castle Skingrad.

Hmm. I'm getting conflicting info here. The wiki says he's marked as "essential again" once you enter the gate, implying he wasn't essential for some part of it. But that's not implied from the wiki page, from what I can see. And on another wikipage, it claims Martin is only unessential during Light the Dragonfires. Weird.

I'm pretty sure Martin can die in the battle before the Great Gate opens. The quest actually tells you to protect him. I've never had that happen, even at level 8 without doing Allies for Bruma, but if he dies then the main questline fails. He can also die on the way to the Temple of the One.

I think you missed the point with the speechcraft one. You don't have to speak with every beggar and help them, but you have to persuade Tandilwe that you did. I mean...how would she know the difference? Well, by detecting your lies. And passing that deception check is the true test. Oh, here is how I did the Allies for Bruma the second time I played through it and got bored of the oblivion gates after a while: Enter portal. Run and jump over everything. Use every object you can. Run up the top, smack the guy with the key, snatch the oblivion orb. It really cuts down the time it takes to complete a gate.

Another layer to the Cure for vampirism quest, is that on PS3 the quest was bugged in a way that made her never finish the potion. You went through all the objectives but were never able to finish it right at the end. That experience broke vampirism for me.

I remember playing this on a PS3 of all things and doing the vampirism quest was glitched on the GOTY version, when trying to give the witch bloodgrass she simply wouldn't take it. The only way to bypass it was to change the system language to German. Even stranger was that this also reset the shivering isle expansion. So much nostalgia for this game and I still love it, but I will always remember this cursed glitch!

Master Training quests have become completely redundant for me. I Speedrun the MG recommendations, level up destruction as much as I can and then make 100 self drain skill spells and get trained by one of the trainers that get you to level 70. It also makes it cheaper if your doing a glitchless play through. Though I don’t know if you’d count the drain training as a glitch.

I love the speech mini game, you can have a ton of fun making them say stuff with turbo speed. In Skyrim speechcraft matters way less, fail a "skill" check and you have 4 other options that will give you the same result... I forgot to add, that yes its true "Curing Vampyrism" can feel tedious but I would not have it any other way. It's very rewarding once you get cured, you feel the reward of it because you have to do a bunch of stuff that ain't exactly easy.

Its 100% useless. Make a Charm 100 spell for 2 secs that anyone can cast and cost 16 magic and you get a better result then Speechcraft could have ever given you even at master level. While sparing you twenty times the time on that single conversation alone.
