Ahhh...why is the self-portrait of Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun used to represent the Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi? (your #48) There are a good number of Artemisia's self-portrait images available even on the internet...or do all women painters look alike to you?

I wholeheartedly agree. Any well educated artist or serious art lover can clearly see the vast difference in painting forms/styles from Elizabeth Vigée-Lebrun's modern era to Artemisia Gentileschi's later time.

Oh, and dear hearts...please learn how to pronounce the names of the artists you feature. It's only polite.

Magritte is not an artist at all - he is a designer... his works are illustrations to Freud, Jung and, above all, Schopenhauer.

I always hate when people come out and flat out dictate (to everyone) what's the "most" this or that... in this case, "The 50 Most Famous Painters in the History of Art"! Simply state your say from your own personal perspective-not from everyone else in the damn world please! Because you don't speak for everyone!! What you have here are most contemporary artists... which is fine if that's your personal choice-but I'm sure it's everyone else's choice. Somewhere in that list people would include Sargent, Van Gogh, Titian, David and so much more!

this is just a commercial move to establish your monopoly... write and publish your list and if many people read it, it will become as significant as any other, authored by those who were not too lazy...
