The Pro Chess League is a $150,000 16-player team tournament taking place on Chess.com, featuring Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Anish Giri and many more top players. The first five weeks are a Swiss tournament that will see half the teams eliminated before the Playoffs, which are an 8-team knockout.
Each team has 6-10 players, but only 4 play each week, with an average rating cap of 2550 and at least one woman in each line-up. Each member of the team plays each member of the opposing team at 10+2 rapid chess. In case of a tie the players play another round of games at a faster time control.

Sponsor and organizer of the tournament in Düsseldorf is the entrepreneur Wadim Rosenstein. He was born in the Ukraine and came to Germany as a child. He growing up in Düsseldorf play for a chess club in Cologne. Rosenstein founded his first own company in 2014 and quickly grew to double-digit million annual sales. In 2021 it will be around 20 million euros. The WR Group, as the German holding company is called, is named after its founder Wadim Rosenstein - WR. The group not only continued to grow strongly until 2022, but has now become much more international

Info on the WR: "The tournament was initiated by Wadim Rosenstein , CEO of the eponymous Düsseldorf logistics company WR Group . Rosenstein himself is an enthusiastic chess player at Düsseldorfer SK, and the 32-year-old even won the Bundesliga with the chess friends Köln-Mülheim around 20 years ago. GM Sebastian Siebrecht will be in charge of the tournament as tournament director, DSB federal tournament director Gregor Johann will act as the main referee. The games will be commented on live on the Internet by former World Cup candidate GM Yasser Seirawan and the German number one for women, GM Elisabeth Pähtz . Unfortunately, it is not possible to watch the game on site."

maybe continuing to fight in seemingly hopeless situations isnt enjoying torture (self-flagellation also fits)....it can also be an engrained attitude.... "never say die", "never surrendor", "die with your boots on", "go down swinging"... there is always a tiny chance your opponent may blunder and you eek out a draw....and if you're Rocky Balboa you may even beat stronger opponents...and if you're paul newman in cool hand luke you may gain respect from your peers from a gallant fighting loss

I have a question. Could Duda do better if at 7:08 he played rook to D1 check. king to G2. Q takes R. B takes Q and R takes B. True Duda is down some material, but at least his rook and bishop can move.
@nicbentulan
@nicbentulan Жыл бұрын
Wow great question. Actually the material is exactly the same? But for some reason the engine says mate in 13. I think the issue is a few moves later you lose 2 pawns. I think it's a great try in blitz. I checked engine, and I think white isn't that powerful if you can somehow maintain the material balance. But I think even in blitz it's easy to gobble up 2 pawns. Usually your kind of position is like 'Hell yeah. I wouldn't mind playing this against an opponent rated 200 points lower than me.' I wouldn't put it past an opponent rated 200 points lower than me to gobble up 2 pawns. P.s. speaking of rating Google 'farmbitrage'. P.p.s. as for 2 pawns: Chess draw (modern) : 'Play the Berlin opening like Wesley So, draw in the middlegame like Teimour Radjabov and draw in the endgame 2 pawns up like Anish Giri.' Chess win (modern) : 'Play the opening like Caruana, the middlegame like Dubov and the endgame like Carlsen.' Chess win (historical) : 'Play the opening like Kasparov, the middlegame like Tal, and the endgame like Capablanca.' 9LX for classical: 'Play the opening like N/A, the middlegame like So and the endgame like So.' 9LX for rapid: I guess... 'Play the opening like Nakamura & So, the middlegame like Nepomniachtchi and the endgame like Abdusattarov, Fedoseev & Grétarsson.' --> Basically everyone but Magnus. Not sure where to put Matthias

I hope this isn't seen as offensive, but I have to question this: over and over in these videos, I've heard 1.Nf3 called the "Réti Opening". My question is: where did this come from? I thought the Réti Opening SPECIFICALLY was 1.Nf3 2.d5 3.c4 . 1.Nf3 by itself has no name, so I thought. I understand with how the Internet is these days that I will be blocked and my question will be deleted, but this has come up so many times that I can't stop myself from asking it. And I want to point out that even if I'm deleted and blocked, I'll still watch agadmator videos, even if I have to log out of my account to do so! I'm not trying to be offensive or insult anybody! I just didn't think that 1.Nf3 by itself had any name as an opening ,and after hearing it referred to as such repeatedly, I just finally felt compelled to bring it up.

Is 9LX self-torture? Quote 1: After playing Chess960, I realise how mentally unwell chess players become the more they play it. They know they will get the same ideal setup every game and they deny the fact that they will mess it up unless they memorise some other geek's ideas. In Chess960 there is nothing to deny. You know you are going to get a far from ideal start position and you know it is up to you to make the best of it and you know you will be playing moves nobody has tried before. Which is better for your mental health? Quote 2: Chess960: The winner is the more agile mind. Chess: The winner is the biggest nerd. Source: Zs4zpf

3:22 I think the line u just showed is not possible due to king e3 move as it attacks the knight and blacks has literally no squares so black can give checks.

What about the undefended rook on D1?

K-e3 is followed by f5 (Stockfish -2.4 at depth 26) as contrasted with K-f1 which Stockfish grades as 0.0. Any subsequent move that white takes to save the knight on a4 is subsequently met with either checkmate in a few moves, or the loss of his queen to protect the exposed white king. In fact, the moment you try to save that knight, Stockfish drops the score to -5.0 on a best case basis.

@@syh1357 That is not a threat as R-d4 will attack the Queen on a4 as also the N on e4. See my other response on why K-e3 does not work.
