The $500 1966 SeaRay SRV180 (18ft) is SOLD. The new owner is here to pick up the boat but it's going to need a little more work before this trailer goes 1,500 miles down the road. We tore down the wheel hubs and replaced the bearings using marine grade grease to repack them after a through cleaning. Then we completely rewired the trailer and replaced the lights to make sure it was ready for the three day trip home. Need to know how to clean and rebuild a Bearing Buddy? We knock those out too. Next time I'll buy a boat in the middle of winter so it won't sell so fast.

Yes like others have said the bearing nuts should only be finger tight. A good way is to install the nut finger tight. Rotate the hub while snugging down the nut SLIGHTLY with a wrench. Then BACK OFF the nut to the next cotter pin slot. If the hub turns freely. Insert the pin and you are done.. I enjoy your videos. Keep em' coming. Thanks..

I put an electric fuel pump on an old Toyota pickup once, and I just pulled the manual pump off and cut the pump arm off of it so it wasn't riding on the cam for no reason, and bolted it back on the engine and it worked great. Best/cheapest block-off plate you can find. lol.

Yes that is exactly right, I worked for a trailer manufacturer for 5 years and serviced trailers. The castle nut is meant to be held in by the cotter pin and kept for free motion. The reason the hub is rocking in and out is because the race in the hub has been worn down

Those types of hubs with kingpins do not require much tightening load at all. They should come loose with no tools. That’s totally normal. Over tightening will thrash the bearings as they overheat during thermal expansion. It needs just a pinch of freeplay. :-)

You need to grease the new bearing before you put it back together.

I hate carbs too. You should try a VW bug with the dual carbs. Nightmare to tune.

MobileChaos: I hate Solex carbs. Weber’s are easy to work with so I replaced the carbs on the bug and Opels with the Weber 32/36s. I’ve considered doing the dual 40s on the bug, but I just don’t think it’s worth it.

I dont remember what I had on my type 3, but it was probably the dual 34s. Been 25 years since owning the VW. Maybe I will try to find another.

Where are videos of this boat in the water? I am in the West Palm Beach area and would like to.see it running down the Intracoastal Waterway or at Peanut Island. I don't recommend an I/O engine in this saltwater environment. I switched to an outboard and never looked back.
