Nice old boat. That said, I love the relationship you have with your dad. Now I know why I think you are a good young man. I too, had a great father that taught me how to fix things, and more importantly to be a good father and man. Awesome videos! I’m redoing a 1983 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer. Sitting for 10 years so I’ll be doing most of the project you did. FYI, you’ve got an OMC outdrive which may NEVER be operated in the trimmed up position due to wear on the ball gear. Always fully lower the drive to operate the engine. Also, this setup does not have “trim” so fully down is all you get. Thanks!

Buick 225 Odd Fire V6. I know that engine very, very well. The engine was also sold to AMC to be put in the CJ Jeeps of the day and Jeep dubbed the little engine that could the "Dauntless". My experience with it was in my 1966 Buick Skylark. I paid $100 for it in 1986 and drove it for many years. Originally 71K miles when I got it and by the time I swapped the little V6 into a 1972 Vega GT, the engine had 315K miles on it. Another couple years in the Vega and it finally threw rod bearings and a few holes in the block at around 369K miles with NO internal work. Very dependable engines. Ah, the memories I had in that Buick, my first and still most adored car. Cheers!! Zip~

I assume you are aware that it takes less than a minute to tear the blades off the Jabesco impeller in the lower unit water pump when running without it being immersed in water. Put the water hose ear muffs on even when testing for a few seconds. This is accentuated after the impeller has taken a 'set' from years of sitting idle as the rubber stiffens. Probably need a new one anyway if it has been setting for fifteen years. The rubber blades can disintegrate on first startup in that case.
@woozleboy5 жыл бұрын
No mention of sale price of the boat. Considering it wasn't worth $500 when purchased, and the amount of new parts and time put into it, I strongly suspect a loss was taken, but that really isn't unusual in such boats. They really are money pits on the water... and then under it. Neat trailer!

Nice video . Restoring restoring a fresh water only operated 1977sx220 Searay 22 foot 235 OMC powered by351Ford v8 ,engine runs like new and was previously converted to electronic ignition , .The boat came with tandem trailer ,radio ,stereo,toilet 2 new batteries sunbrella top fish finder ,anchor, and was kept and serviced at local marina on Lake Erie for 12 years . So far repaired minor scrapes and scratches on hull touched up compounded and buffed cleaned top ,restored faded wood . Come spring replacing water pump impeller or water pump kit ,possible ball gears ,prepping trailer and painting . Going over drive and drive tilt , wiring , redying vinyl seats and trim should have in water for $2500.00 all in . Here the kicker marinas on the Canadian side on Erie or Lake Huron have waiting list of up to 3 years and their gas prices are horrendous,so I purchased a 2011f150 which I just welded in cab corners and rockers ,rebuilding differential and replacing front 4x4vac operated hubs, brakes tires and safety inspection.

I hope the new owner replaces the water impeller because I bet it's dry and it will come apart. They should be checked every year and replaced every 200 hours of run time. I myself replace mine between every 12 to 18 months. A couple of hours of labor every year to year and a half to help to make sure you don't run your motor hot is well worth it.
