True story here.....about 6 months after setting up our 75gallon we made our way up north one Saturday afternoon (we live 100 miles south of Denver) our main intention was to visit Aquatic Art Inc. We were like kids in a candy store to say the least! As we browsed thru the many corals and admired our favorites my husband heard a familiar voice and said to me "hey, I know that guy" he's famous! I'm looking around thinking he's talking about a Denver Bronco player or someone like that and he then pointed out it was none other than Jake Adams! I then knew who he was talking about. As we continued to look over our favorites to purchase, Jake asked if we were buying a particular coral he was also looking at. The conversation began! Jake was so gracious enough to answer our questions and of course suggested Acropower and trace elements. The best advice he gave was don't chase parameters for 1 punk coral in your tank if all your others are doing well. I told him I was looking to start my own tank, an all in one Nano. He though it was an excellent idea and then proceeded to let us know about Reefstock in our very own Denver! After a few pictures Jake headed out. We continued to shop and met Cris Capp, owner of Aquatic Art. He was so very informative and He made it easy for us to make our purchase.....my Red Sea Nano! So here we are, almost 2 years later, a RS 750xxl, many corals and fish, Reefstock 2 years in a row and at this year's event winning a Trident!! Oh and of course we bought another tank at Reefstock lol. This one being a JBJ 45gal. We are so happy to see this interview with Cris Capp! As hobbyists we highly recommend visiting his place if ever In the Denver area AND if possible, come to Reefstock!! So many vendors and the guest speakers are awesome. Thank you for reading my story and Happy Reefing!

Excellent advice. Basics, basics, basics. Something even I neglect at times. Always know your parameters before troubleshooting. Many people asking those what wrong with my (insert coral). Then when asked to post parameters, they don't know, or don't bother and want an instant fix. It can take months for corals to recover and longer or never if you don't watch parameters.

Great video. While I do watch most of your videos and many other reef related youtube videos, your sit down videos with other hobbyists (or professionals) are my favorite. When you have someone sitting in front of a display like this you are going to listen to what they have to say. Nice to have some personal stories that are still relatable to a wider audience and mentioning the good old days of reef central even though whoever is left there still hates you and censors anything reefbuilders and many other things. It's too bad as big as reef2reef has become they haven't really taken over that tank of the month excitement. Maybe we just see a lot more great reef tanks in many different mediums but I still miss looking forward to that.

Halides, halides, and more halides. They are coming back little by little. And that is awesome! Very nice system! Amazing corals! How do we get our corals to grow faster and to look brighter? Answer: healthy corals. Very well said, Jake!! Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely LOVE the idea that he runs metal halides, and points out a huge issue whenever people talk about when doing cost comparisons. Cris largely has had all the equipment so that cost shouldn't come into play, the cost then becomes cost of bulbs & cost of electricity. Now what would it cost in LEDs for this tank? Probably 2 Radion G4pros or 3 Hydra 52 HDs (maybe 2), and the Radions are going to pull 190 watts from the wall, remembering this is a 36" tall tank so you will not get away with running channels at 50% power like many do on 24" tall tanks, so that's 380W and sure could ramp up/down but chances are you are not doing that with an 8hr lighting schedule, so power wise are you really saving that much? So right on... more power (no pun) to halides!
@ReefBuildersVideo
@ReefBuildersVideo 5 жыл бұрын
So true, but you would need AT LEAST FOUR RAdion G4 Pros running at full power for this eight foot long, three foot deep Acro tank.
@Mike__B
@Mike__B 5 жыл бұрын
@@ReefBuildersVideo Honestly, I don't think 4- G4s are enough if you want front the back acro growing light, tank is 3 feet wide and even the most generous of recommendations place G4 Pros at about a 2x2 foot coverage. Now granted you could get creative and really only care about the center 2x2 area for corals and the front and back 6" as a acro free zone which isn't a horrible idea in itself, but most people want an "even" blank of light. Where as with metal halides a nice reflector (Lumenarc/bright style) can easily cover a 3x3 foot area without any issues (other than a 400 watt heater over the tank :D). That said, Cris certainly doesn't need any advice, he obviously knows what he's doing :)

Definitely looking at more than 2 XR30, probably more like 10 for compatible light out put which would be 2000w.

Man what a straight up chill guy. Corals in his tank look very impressive. Feel bad for that black tang. Do we have any knowledge yet about what causes zebrasoma to lose their fins like that? Luckily my yellow I got from divers den is doing well still. Had her for a few years now.
