Smart move. My father-in-law had finished his 66 nova and while driving down the road the front tire blew out. He had only had it a month but the tire was 20 years old. It did a lot of damage and he had just finished building it. He as the first person to register it. It was a drag car it’s whole life.

What???? No "Stick Around" Intro? Wats up wit dat? That has to be in there, that's the signature!!!! I agree with lot of what you say bro, you have two choices, a daily summer driver or a sunny day garage queen / free to go where and whenever you want or become a babysitter. The great thing about the 51 as it sits, you can enjoy it, care for it but not have to worry about it. You have the best of both worlds. We already know you can do car show quality work and your own time is your own, I say go after it, take advantage of the free body work. It will be done right the next time. Throw in the motor and trans, body work and paint, paint the trailer, lots of good content videos there... I need to get out of the house and go for a drive, I forget how beautiful this place is...., Thanks for sharing Fitz

Back in the fifties we had a '51 straight stock, business coupe. We had an upholstery shop source a rear seat from a Chevy and make new matching seat covers etc. for it. It was fun and reliable for what it was, but those cars were good up to about 50 MPH. After that they really needed overdrive. But then, when it was built, most highways were two-lane with a 50 or 55 MPH speed limit.

Nothing worse than driving an under-powered vehicle. I had this issue with my 1982 Mitsubishi L300 van. So I swapped out the old 1.6 liter engine and four speed manual column shift for a later 2.0 liter engine and five speed manual floor shift. It's so much better now than it was, but still a little under-powered. But it was a case of what engine would fit with the least amount of issues, as there's not much room under the seat for the engine. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the extra power with your new engine and transmission. Hope to see you doing the work, always interesting with engine swaps and how you overcome any issues. All the best from Queensland Australia.

Fitzee - plain and simple, ditch the Cokers, better ride like you say and if you ever need new ones just shoot down to a local guy and buy them. Most will probably disagree with this but I'd instantly go with white lettered tires. I'm old school at 62 and that's what we had on all our cars. I remember when it turned to black walls and we all thought it sucked and didn't look right. Get that ls in there they'd fit the bill and it just goes with smokin the tires. Really like your channel, showing people that they can accomplish alot without the big dollar tools. Then all they gotta do is get their ass out in the garage.

Hey Fitzee! Love seeing that Chev, mate. She's an absolute beaut and the camera does a good job of hiding the imperfections you're talking about, because I haven't seen them yet! Like me, you live in a beautiful country with lots of trees and plenty of seaside. It's lovely to see that beautiful and peaceful spots can be found all over the world. I had a wee thought just now - have you heard of - or thought of maybe using - something like whitewall flappers (aka: whitewall flaps, whitewall tyre inserts, portawall inserts - depending on your spot on the globe)? That way you could use radial tyres, get the good ride and still have that whitewall look. The inserts are also removable / reusable on the next set of tyres as well, so no need to wait forever for the right tyre to come in. Alternately, I have seen people mask up and spray whitewalls on....with varying degrees of success I might add, though. Once you had a template, it would be a piece of cake to replicate (presuming you can find a rubber paint that will stay on). Just a thought, mate - that's all. Have enjoyed the different avenues and advice you have been filming recently too - much appreciative for the tips. All the best

I have a set of those on my garage wall. We call them port-a-walls. They can be nightmares on radials. As they tend to flap in the wind at high speed. I seen them come off cars even damage the car.
@KiwiStag743 жыл бұрын
@@fitzeesfabrications I wasn't aware of that potential. That's not the desired result at all, is it? Hmmmm...... The ones I've seen on cars over here didn't flap or let go in the couple of years I was following cars on rallies with them on, but I guess they didn't get their nickname of "flappers" from nowhere, did they? Mind you, "high speed" in the case of a Triumph Herald is about 55mph / 90km/h, so not what you would usually call ''rapid' by any stretch of the imagination. I can see why you would not want to use them, for sure. I certainly would not want damage to my car from a dress-piece if I could avoid it. I'll keep my eye out and if I see a safer solution, I'll be in touch. Thanks for letting me know though.....and I still enjoyed being out in the Chev! I will take any chance to be out for a drive in a 51 or 52 that I can get! Beautiful cars....
