For raw cashback this my setup: 1) TD Visa Infinite Cashback (3% gas, groceries, and reoccurring bills 2) Canadian Tire World Elite Mastercard (5 cents for every liter in savings on gas, roadside assistance, discount on oil changes) 3) Rogers World Elite Mastercard (2% on any purchase and 3% of any US purchase) TD also has roadside assistance, but I found Canadian Tire to be better. I use TD for the mentioned categories, and if if I can't find Canadian Tire or Petro Canada gas stations. I use Rogers World Elite for pretty much everything else. Tbh, you could get away with just the TD and Rogers but I don't mind having all 3. PS: I do not like travel points as it can vary in value. Cashback is cashback, no negative consequences. Also, Rogers master card is only 2% cashback for rogers or fido customers ( I have phone with Rogers), for rest it is 1.5%.

You know that rogers will give 3 percent cash back on everything if you redeem it against a rogers/ fido purchase

the platinum Amex: my beefs: - concierge isn't as glamorous as you say. all they really did for us was get us a glass of champagne - they could not get us into fully booked restaurants. - the statement credit for resto and flying is pointless because you're pigeon holed into a few restaurants that are typically full and the statement credit is useless because you need to book through american express where the prices are always inflated. - the lounges aren't worth it anymore because all the lounges are always where you cannot get a seat. maple leaf lounge access is far more worth it.

Aeroplan Core cards (Infinite cards) do not have priority boarding or check in. Premium cards do (Privilege)

Loving the Amex Cobalt as well - I wish I had signed up early. Just two tidbits: 1. Amex Cobalt is getting nerfed October 8, 2024 with travel getting decreased to 1x. Gas, transit and ride share rates are unchanged. 2. NEXUS is hiking up the cost from $50 USD to $140 USD on October 1, 2024.

Extra tidbit - Costco appears to be wholesale with Mastercard purchases. Walmart stores proper also. The only exception is Walmart Supercentes that are coded as Grocery.

I dont spend too much money as I live with parents however I'd like to get a better credit card. What do you recommend to start off with as a canadian? Thanks!

Right. Not a big deal in my view - the 5x points on food & drinks is where most people will earn most of their points.

@appmania2180 You can't go wrong with the Amex Cobalt in your situation. You'll earn tons of points that you can use for flights/hotels/travel, plus you get all the other American Express benefits with it. Link in the description.

Hi Simon - the Amex Cobalt gives you 2x points on gas, so I'd definitely go for that. It'll be much better for you than your current WestJet card. Link in the description.

Why would any Canadian want an Amex card unless they do an extreme amount of traveling. They aren't accepted anywhere except for major travel destinations and airports.
