I feel like they Amex should have respected its current members by honoring the $250 annual fee and only charge the new fee of $325 to new members/applicant’s

Yeah at the very least they could have extended it so that every current cardmember was locked in at $250 for 1 year. This change is consistent with what they've done with past AF increases, but still will make a lot of current holders reconsider it

I get Shake Shack regularly so I was guaranteed to get half the old annual fee back and could usually force myself to use the uber eats so I could break almost even. Now only the $100 Resy is my sure redemption and that’s less than a 3rd of the new fee. I chatted with them and was able to get a retention offer that basically covers me when I renew at the old fee next month. I’ll see how this year goes then decide come next renewal. One of my main (vain) motivations for the card was the rose gold color, now I’m tempted by the white gold.

The Dunkin credit is the most baffling thing to me. Something like Starbucks would have made way more sense. There are no Dunkins in the northwest section of the US where I live. Zero. I’m closer to more Tim Hortons than I am any Dunkins. Adding insult to injury, Dunkin doesn’t even sell their own coffee online. You are directed to buy it through third parties like Amazon or Target. Which is just crazy. So I can’t even use the credit that way.

I had the "highest ever" bonus points 75,000 ($4k in 6mo) when opening this card in 2021, now this 100K "highest ever" offer is lowered 11% value. Hey Daniel. My Gold renewal comes up in September. For the reasons you mentioned, I’ll probably be canceling the card, even though the white gold looks cool. But, I’m getting 5% back on restaurants with one of my Custom Cash cards, and 5% back on groceries with my second Custom Cash - all for no annual fee. It makes it tough to justify the Gold, even if it provides MR points. Thanks for the good video.

It was already the best food card, and now it’s even better. Just adding the $100 Resy credit alone in $50 chunks is worth it. I only get $10/mo for Resy with my Delta Platinum. For the first time ever, the credits are more valuable than the annual fee, not to mention the 4x multipliers and purchase protection, etc.

@@micahgreene4573 This is incorrect. You do not have to use Resy at all to receive the credit, just use your Gold card at a restaurant that happens to use Resy. You just need to enroll for the credit in the same manner as the Dining credit, can be done in the AMEX app.

I’ll be keeping the card because I still benefit from deals. I have a Five Guys near me, along with Dunkin’. I dine out and the spots I hit are on Resy so these credits alone take the sting out of the $325 annual fee. I benefited before the change and continue to do so. You mentioned that the annual fee hasn’t changed in years, so I don’t understand the uproar as items always increase over time. Thanks for the info.
