Brokered CD's. 3-5 months, or more, offer 4.5-4.9% right now. These savings accounts are also great as well and you can also use the CD's at these banks, albeit at lower rates, to pay out monthly directly into your savings should you need the cash for expenses. I would do a mix match approach.

I think its better if you want high yield is to invest in high yield divided stocks. Some energy stocks pay 8 % dividends and stocks are cheap right now as wall st crashes
@BusinessWithBrian Жыл бұрын
But for many people, they park cash in a high-yield savings account so that it can meet two criteria. It is insured, and it has high liquidity. If you invest in high dividend stocks, it is liquid, but it's not insured. And I would dare say that most all high dividend stock are losing equity. Meaning that when you need the cash, you're going to have less of it because the stock price has gone down. It really comes down to your needs and expectations. People putting money in a high-yield savings account tend to need it in the short-term. Stocks, in my opinion, are much better for long-term investments.

What do you think about Varo Bank?
@alan30189 Жыл бұрын
I would forget about all of the ones you mentioned (too many restrictions), up until USB Bank, which paid 4.55%. I like the Primis checking interest rate, which is equivalent to their online rate of 4.35%. However, with the rates being equivalent, there’s no reason to have an online savings account. Just keep everything in your checking account. One that you missed though, was Brio Online Savings, which pays 4.402% and has no minimum balance requirements, no direct deposit requirement, and is FDIC insured. It’s a division of Webster bank. I’ve been using Brio for a couple of years now. I used to have Ally Bank online savings account, and several other online savings banks over the years, and what many of these companies do, is have a higher interest rate for a while, get a bunch of customers and then cut their rate back substantially. That’s what Ally did, so I withdrew my money in placed it elsewhere. Brio has not done that. All this being said, your best bet for a high return and a tax advantaged one as well, is to invest money you don’t need immediately in a Treasury Bill. They’re easy to buy through your broker, and most of them pay a higher interest rate than 4.55%. For example, I have a 17 week T-Bill ladder, where I purchase one each month and the latest one I purchased had an estimated return of 5.16%. The Fed just increased interest rates, so that rate will likely go up the next time I buy one. They are state and local income tax free, so that drives your after tax return up even higher. They are also zero coupon and much safer than having your money in a bank. I started buying them in November 2022 and now keep much less in my online savings bank. I keep one month of expenses my regular checking account. Lastly, Fidelity has some money market funds that pay decent returns now. Their FZDXX money market fund pays 4.88%, but you have to open the fund with $100,000. After that, you don’t have to maintain $100,000. Your balance can be much less than that and get the high rate. Cheers!

Do any of this banks have a phisiclal bank? I am afraid of this online only banks
@AustinCDennis9 ай бұрын
Many of the well known online banks are FDIC insured so they're as safe as a physical bank. One reason they're able to offer high interest rates is because they don't have the costs associated with physical locations. I just opened a Wealthfront account but will keep my Wells Fargo account.
@cbbcbb6803 Жыл бұрын
What counts as direct deposit? Wealthfront Cash sounds like you said it does not have FDIC coverage and sounds like you said it has coverage. I'm confused.
@BusinessWithBrian Жыл бұрын
Direct deposit is loosely defined as a consistent monthly deposit via ACH. One may attempt to have a monthly transfer from another bank into a high yield account that requires direct deposit via ACH and it may meet all requirements. I've heard of a few people taking this approach, but I don't know if any of the banks are catching on to this. Attempt at your own risk, but let me know if it works for you :-). Sorry for any confusion on Wealthfront, here's the spot in the video in case someone else reads this 5:48 My reference was that Wealthfront is not like a typical bank with only $250K in FDIC insurance. Instead, it is a money account where they manage your money across several banks. I then go on to state that Wealthfront provides $2 Million in FDIC insurance for a single account, and up to $4 Million in coverage for a joint account. Does that help clarify your question?

What do you think about capital one checking/savings?
@mikecumbo7531 Жыл бұрын
I have had a Cap One account for years, originally it was ING Direct. Their high yield savings account Is 3.9%, a few weeks back they had an 11 month 5% CD with no catches.

So when addressing Digital Federal Credit Union's requirements, you say, "their website lists all the employers and organizations that are allowed to join." So is being either one of those a specific requirement of its own?
@BusinessWithBrian Жыл бұрын
If you meet any of those requirements, then you can apply.

I haven't. I've looked at them, but they just didn't seem memorable or standing out as being better than any other online bank. Their rates and offerings seem ok, but less than a lot of the top performers that I review. If you choose them, please let me know how it goes.

Yes, it is a normal bank account that you can withdraw funds as you like. Now you may need to look at specific details of some banks to make sure they don't have limits on how much you can withdraw per day, or some may have minimums to be held in the account.

Hi Rosalyn. It's a great item to include. Where I am able to find beneficiaries, I input that detail in my free sheet with all the banks. Under the tab of "Details" I have a column for beneficiaries where I list if a bank offers that feature or not. There are some with "?" where I couldn't find an answer, which leads me to believe they are a no. Here's the link: bit.ly/Bank_Comparison_Tool
