The 6 Essential 16th Note Rhythms You NEED To Learn!

This week we're going to look at rhythm, specifically 16th note rhythms. 16th notes can be problematic for bass players just getting started with the more funk oriented styles. Syncopated 16th notes can be particularly tough.
So in this lesson I'm going to break down the 6 basic rhythms you need to work on in developing a good rhythmic foundation. We'll learn how to read, play and feel them in isolation before adding pitch into the mix.

Ive spent the last 3 months building my own bass from scratch and learning music theory in the mean time on my keyboard. I finished it like 3 weeks ago and been practicing and still learning as much theory as possible everyday. I have to say this is one of the most helpful lessons for me so far. My main focus right now is speed and my fretting hand. I feel like Im having the most trouble crossing string with 16th notes

Non-topic related... I always wonder if professional bass players have their string setup very low on the pickups. Do they? Because it seems that they always (most of the time) have a very light touch and still get a fine deep loud enough tone. Any thoughts on that? Or is it the knobs settings? And if so: what are the settings? Also: what string gauge do you use? Because i read somewhere that the pros also use much lighter string gauges than a student or amateur player knows or is taught.

To be honest, none of that really matters. My action changes all the time based on the weather because I can’t be bothered adjusting the truss rod every time we get a cold/hot spell. As for touch I’m generally quite light when plugged in. You should adjust your volume accordingly. Knobs I have totally flat. Strings are usually medium 45-105 for me. I hate to say it but there’s no substitute for experience. I’ve been playing for about 32 years now and there are things I do based on hundreds/thousands of gigs that I wouldn’t have been able to learn from a teacher. It’s all just stuff that happens as you play more.
