That's true now but might not have been true 11 months ago. Remember, this challenge was done on the first snapshot where copper even existed. It didn't even drop raw copper when mined.

Now it is based on random ticks, and tests for adjacent blocks. Back then it was completely based on real time.

For anyone wondering today, oxidation likely worked the same back then as it does today. They are all on the same oxidation stage, which would be extremely unlikely if they oxidised independently. If they would have a preset timer, the same block would oxidise every 20 hour, which is not the case. Some other comments are simply wrong.

The 1.17 meta: - Mine 2-5 copper ore to get 9 raw copper - Mine one iron and three stone to make a stonecutter - Craft one copper block - Plop in stonecutter to get cut copper stairs - Place at least four blocks away from any other copper - Repeat in order to make more stairs so you get more chances that one of them will oxidize

guys I don't know if you all know this but there is a bug that when you go into a world that you were already in then it will show the item that you had when you closed the word in your hand for 1 frame. you could see a wooden pickaxe in his hand at 0:41. I don't know if that was just a bug or spliced but it was there

the problem is that vanilla doesn't load the chunks if you go too far so going ro get more copper or you know playing the game for fun during the wait just makes the stairs not load in

When i realize the speedrun could be so much faster if he was smelting the copper while collecting it or made multiple furnaces. as well as placing the copper stairs separated by about 4 blocks so they oxidize faster... my anxiety is triggering hard on that...
