I won't call them out by name here in the spirit of community goodwill, but the stark contrast in opinion between this review and other, less positive reviews is kind of baffling to me. Like, here the takeaway is "there's SO MUCH stuff to do, it's super cool and re-centers the focus of the game on the characters" vs "this adds too many events and they're annoying and landless play is a boring slog" in the other reviews. For the record, I totally agree with the take in this review -- I haven't played yet, of course, but all of these changes sound absolutely phenomenal to me. Great review, look forward to playing tomorrow.
@loutre1178Ай бұрын
I think reactions are going to vary a lot depending on how people play adventurers. Like a full landless campaign vs a temporary option in a broader game, camp purposes, etc. It makes sense that he's playing very hands-on, military type adventurers which engage with core game systems beyond the scheme gameplay loop.

My only complaint about this DLC is that it cost, at least in my country, just a bit less than the base game itself. And to me its an automatic refusal to buy. Unless of course the content added would have been just a bit less than the base game itself, that would have been okay. But on top of all this, you also need to get a 30$ DLC in order to enjoy everything tyhat DLC has to provide ( Royal Court). So huh yeah, no thanks.

Landless adventurers are such a cool idea that I've been wanting for a long time but it's way too easy to get gold and land. Apparently I'm in the minority of gamers who want challenge in their grand strategy games. If you're familiar with CK mechanics you should be able to conquer or even just be given a duchy within a few years. I was offered the duchy of Barcelona as a bribe to abandon my contract against them and call off my 200 unit army a few years into the game. For this feature to work there needs to be a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. At the minute it's incredibly easy and gaining land makes you significantly less powerful.

Right? if you model your games to develop over a decade only through the additions of DLC, you should make that content way cheaper than DLC for AAA games. Paradox makes their DLC as imperative (pun intended) to own as just regular content updates for other games. On the other hand though, they don't release that many games, so instead of buying a new, but half baked game every 2 years, we are forced to buy a new DLC every 2 years that isn't a new game, but that greatly improves the game we have. It's a less common form of game development.

Other than the new mechanics and how the tours system conflicts very hard with the simple scripted RNG system of the firing event chains associated with the unique adventures starts in 1066, the rest of the DLC is pretty solid. BTW Adventures used to be more OP before the patch, where if you started in the 12th century start you'd still wipe landed armies 4 times your size. However after the patch, yeah you fall off hard after 1160 as a Mercinary, I'd recommend not playing a merc fo4 the 3rd start date onwards. I'd say the Norman, Turkic and Alan Horse Mercenary bands of the 11th century were the last hoo rah of powerful roaming bands both historically and in the game itself also.

Okay before I watch these are my thoughts. The unlanded adventurer is something I've been wanting for ages. It is quite fun to play for a while. But here's the problem. It's way too easy to acquire gold and land. I was offered the duchy of Barcelona after only a few years in return for abandoning my contract against them. The thing is, I only had 200 units and a few knights at the time. I rejected but later on in the game I joined a peasant revolt thinking I'd install an AI ruler as Duke. 6000 event troops spawned in. One battle and one siege later I'm the Duke of Lancaster back to playing the same old easy feudal gameplay. All of the gold I invested in my mercenary band was wasted. There's nothing rewarding about it. The rise from peasant to duke should be somewhat challenging but now I know the mechanics I could probably do it within a few years. I love this game and hate to always criticize it but it offers nothing to veteran players. Every update just seems to make the game even easier. No amount of fiddling with the settings can make the game remotely challenging. The RPG aspects are still bare bones too. I want to be whipped up into a vengeful rage but neighbouring rulers just seem to exist with little or no interaction between our realms. Even playing as Alfred the Great I have to take the initiative and go on the offensive because the AI does nothing after the initial invasion. Oh and they've still not fixed the court physician thing. If you hire a court physician AFTER getting an injury or illness, they won't treat you and you can't manually make them.

I liked this review, but its interesting to me in the comments how many people rely so much on reviews and the personalities that make them. These people do not deserve to be put on a pedestal. They might be good, they might be arrogant, they might be trying to farm your views with clickbait. In general, YOU should make your own decisions. So many games are being destroyed by reviewers creating arbitrary negative press because somehow it gives them more clout. The player loses when this happens. Having said that, i thought this review was yes on the positive side, but was quite honest in its approach. 🎉

I just wish we could be become a baron from being a landless character. Perhaps a count/duke likes you so much that they grant you a barony and you serve him as a knight. Whenever he goes to war he takes you with them as part of their army. your own troops joining your liege's army. Eventually plot or work your way up to becoming a count and up the ranks of nobility.

wait… THE MOD IS COMING OUT WITH RTP??? When I saw your video I assumed it was still in the planning phase

One question can you as an adventure raid if your like Norse? Also amazing review keep it up!!
@TarkusarkusarАй бұрын
no, you can't raid as an adventurer except through one contract where a lord essentially sponsors you to raid someone's land via a war. You can steal from people though via criminal contracts.

Would be nice if you could take some popular DD comments that the Devs answered or changes asked by a lot of people and say if the Devs did really listen and made some of those changes, and what changes they were... I think this should have a lot of weight in any review.
@TarkusarkusarАй бұрын
That's a pretty good idea. I'll think about it for next time, since I can't go back and change this review now lol. I sort of did that back in the Legends of the Dead review, since player expectations were a lot more relevant for that DLC. Its reception was low in a lot of ways because of the misalignment of expectations and actual product.

@Tarkusarkusar Do a video about it after release S2

Since Landless sounds largerly as characters going on perpetual tours, how much use do they make of that event framework and how soon do events start noticeably repeating?

Are you using mods? I see at 16:40 there's a Roman Empire in charge of Sicily and N.Africa, while the Byzantine Empire was renamed to ERE. Was it an event?

Ok review... i agree in some aspects

It sounds like they could use the administrative government as basics for a merchant republic government type when we get it. I am looking forward to adventures also the adminstrative government type.
@oldyladАй бұрын
I’m hoping that merchant republics use landless mechanics. Like make it so that you can be elected if your camp is in the capital of a republic like Venice, or allow a landless character to purchase a home in a city similar to ck2 so that if your goal is to lead the republic you can choose to set up a permanent “camp”

I still want Merchant Republics and Hordes.

Aside from the success of admin govt as its own thing, it seems like it will be pretty easy to effectively adapt it to enable both republican govt *and* playable papacy via a cardinal-family system

I hope they leave theocracies for last because we REALLY need Republican and Nomadic governments! Hopefully EU5's nomadic country mechanics can shed a light to CK's team on how they can do it The fact that 1/4 of the map, that should be unsettled steppe land, is settled tribal land has kept much of the game from developing realistic dynamics in the region.
@oldyladАй бұрын
@@miguelpadeiro762the landless system has opened a lot of doors, including your suggestion. If they go through with “unsettling” land in the steppe, that could lead to the East Asia DLC people have been theorizing about a lot (the map being ripped in the East im unsure if they removed that), less rulers means potential for more elsewhere. Imagine RPing as Marco Polo visiting China and then returning to Italy and being elected as doge of Venice
@oldyladАй бұрын
@@miguelpadeiro762and with the provision system I think nomads could be very interesting and unique more than just their ability to move
@miguelpadeiro762Ай бұрын
@@oldylad I am a firm believer of the ripped map theory lol, I think they'll explore expanding the map eastward once they deal with the Nomad problemm as it will also work as a barrier of worlds that'd only be united with the Mongol empire.

I remember a byzantion mod from the early days of ck3 that I really liked. I think it was called Rhomaioi - However, I don't even remember, what it did🚬
