From October of 1991, here is "The 60s Remembered," an excellent documentary about the turbulent 1960s, going year by year, focusing on events that took place in Cleveland, Ohio. Taped from WVIZ (PBS), Ch. 25, Cleveland. This is part 2.

All those well-paying jobs were sent to states in the south and southwest where there were no unions and labor was cheap, that’s what crippled Cleveland.

As awful as the Indians were in 1963 they did have one glorious, albeit obscure, moment. On July 31st, in the 2nd game of a double header against the Angels, Pedro Ramos, Larry Brown, Woody Held, and Tito Francona all homered in succession off Paul Foytack. After the 4th straight homerun was hit, the Angels manager asked Foytack what he thought of the situation. "I think I'm in good shape. There's nobody on base." He received a standing ovation as he left the mound. In that same doubleheader, the Indians pitchers tallied 25 strikeouts.

I remember I was 10 years old and I got hit right there on sideway going across the street in the seventies, and I remember my best friend her name was Diane Shepherd she got hit right up there also in that area but she wasn't too lucky she passed away. 😔

Sorry Celebreze , Urban Renewal was the start of crap! Now I know why I'm not a Democrat anymore and Stokes was the start of its downfall. East Cleveland became a slum.

You’re right! I lived in East Cleveland in the early 60s and it was a perfect suburb. In one year it was ruined
