Summary as 7 corrects I noted for myself 1. FINISH SONGS AND START RELEASING 2. SHUT DOWN INTERNET & PHONE AWAY no distractions 3. DO NOT COMPARE 4. GET TOGETHER with producer friends , musician friends 5. Shut your EGO down and listen to criticisms 6. Take ACTION 7. Do it for other reasons than earning money I'm realllly -not- excited to try shutting internet down lol but i believe it's gonna get me the best results

As a person that has ADHD as well these are extremely helpful tips. All of these you listed have sent me down genuine depressive episodes because I can’t seem to get ahold of my attention which leads to me feeling like I’m wasting my time entirely. Releasing the first song has been an absolute struggle cause I fear rejection so much, and also constantly compare. Thanks for calling these out, and I’m glad I have someone like you to relate to brotha!

Ive been an ableton user for years and super guilty of many of the things Ethan describes in all his videos. Plus Ive spent the last few years watching many others, but He and all the videos are spot on and easy to watch and absord. Perhaps the best I've seen on KZbin. As a Detroit DJ and now here in Nashville, I can't thank him enough. Gettin it done. X

Ive wanted to make good music and mix music at festivals and clubs and travel the world but 6 out of 7 things here apply to me. Its so easy to become insecure when you know you give it your all but never get the result you want. Ive wasted 9 years of my life i could have been producing and sharing my music due to almost everything on this list. Thank you for showing me all in what i struggle with and hope to get better and hopefully have people enjoy what it is i love to do

This video describes me pretty well right now. Never release my music, constantly get distracted, compare my music to the music of artists I admire. . .yikes. I used to get feedback on my tracks from other producers, but eventually fell out of contact. Networking is hard for me, I only ever tried to collaborate once, but it never went anywhere, and I realized I'm not good at sharing my vision. I have no producer friends, and probably won't for the foreseeable future. I've been at this for about a decade, and I'm feeling kinda stuck. I can't see myself doing anything else for a living but have been getting no return on investment, and like I've failed already. I'm not looking to get rich and famous, just to do the thing I enjoy long term. The pressure to succeed is crushing me.

I think you need to set a big goal IE releasing an EP in 6 months, then break that goal into smaller easily attainable goals and make a checklist, then apply items of that checklist onto a schedule. They say inner peace is reached when your schedule alines with your values. I have an album I'm trying to finish within the next 3 weeks, and I broke down each step on a checklist. Finish recording vocals for X song, finishing mixing Y song, stuff like that. Now I know if I just stick to the calendar, then everything will get done (: Hope this at least points you in the right direction. Stop making excuses, and start making music!

strange, ive produced wayyyyy over ten years. never released anything in my life. and im finding that the more i learn...and the older i get..... i hate my own stuff more. its like too much knowledge now im looking for perfect in more ways than the most producer... i was producing way back in the rusko loft studio days. problem is... no one produces music just like me in my area yet its so popular ( dancefloor dnb and neuro dnb ) its all coki sound dub and dnb

Well said great vid @Ethan Davis. One of the best advice I've received is that you cannot run a business alone. The man who told me this broke it down this way, he used an island as the example, basically we all need help and it takes a team to grow a business, so if you act like an island you're away from the inland and eventually you'll need help because there isn't enough resources on a island. He said it differently than I explained lol, but basically it takes a team to succeed nobody just makes it on there own!!

Just a quick question, Where can you find producer friends ?
@CompleteProducer
@CompleteProducer Жыл бұрын
that's a great question. if i didnt have any producer friends right now id probably start with looking on producer sub-reddits in genres that i wanted to produce! most people usually know 1 or 2 people who make music as well. if you dont know anyone, maybe that's a sign that you're supposed to be the first real producer in your friend group. in that case, find the singers, musicians, or songwriters that you know, and make music with them!
