Pharrell’s Holi pack was definitely cultural appropriation, the question really comes down to whether or not cultural appropriation is inherently a bad thing considering it’s inescapable and how new culture is created.

Fuck no…i am an indian who actually lives in india…..the clothes might be shit…but the shoes are fireeee…holi is a festival for all…..anyone and everyone can celebrate holi…its about good winning over evil….and if some one takes my cultural and uses it as an inspiration for their products i will be more than happy to lend them my culture…the west is all about inclusivity nowadays…but if people try new cultures…everyone say no thats wrong you should stick to your culture…how is that inclusivity? Rather than seprating people based on their culture…let evryone try whatever they want and lets share each others culture…(btw if this is cultural appropriaton…then even white ppl doing yoga is cultural appropriation…they have literally changed the names of the aasans ie poses..so that is is easier for them to say it…i think that is more offending than this small collab where the artist tried to promote a festival and actually use the hindi language with correct meaning)

2:07 How did you completely forgot about the Tom Sachs 3.0? In fact SNKRS APP even made a contest to vote to became the 3.0 tester, you had to upload a video proving the reasons why you wanted to be one of the first ones to try it and after youvhad to make daily report videos about how did you wear them. Is this story completely been banned to the shadow realm or did someone still remembers that?
@garyburke61564 ай бұрын
I remember it well. the tom sachs stuff hit right after kanye/adidas blew tf up and Nike just didn't want any similar controversy. Nike completely dropped anything sachs like a hot rock. It sucks because I was a fan of his, but he was just such a jerk to work with that he squandered all his opportunities. mars yard 3s would have been massive. now he's hawking crappy NFTs to make a buck. ah well

One thing ive learned aa a british born hindu. Dont piss off the hindus, theres some militants over and in america. 😆 not going to lie, I really wanted a pair of the holi pharrell colabs. But I can see why they saw it as culture appropriation and deemed it to stop. It's not adidas's festival, culture, religion to financially exploit. What would've made it better if, they made the effect during the holi festival, and then sold a cheaper pair to indians but dirt cheap with the same effect. Probably would've got marketed better and gave some indians some exclusive products this meaning they would've felt incorporated into the design and gave it the hindu thumb of approval. 😆
