The thing about reliability and perfection is that I actually think it gives the bike character, not the other way around. There's a sort of discipline and pride in a brand when it can say it's "built strong." You can have all the nice designs, all the bells and whistles, all the rah rah and excitement, all the tricks, but I'll always beat you in good old fashioned reliability. It's more centered and true. I kinda disagree with the video because I see its criteria for being boring or exciting as completely opposite. And I've never owned a Honda. 🤷 In fact, I own a Yamaha and I also own a Ducati. So no bias there. I've even heard Ducati guys try to flip it and say that the bike being unreliable gives it unpredictability and therefore personality. LOL.

It was a pretty pointless video, a rare one, but still, you ended up with realistically pointing out only 1 realistic mistake by honda, the CB650 and even that bike i consider 1 of the only cool nikes bcuzz it offers a begginer 4cilinder option to the 650 lineup instead of the more common 2 banger, this wasnt satire, it was a mess. Thanks for summarizing. Still questionable pricing on the CB650 though when you can get the MT09 and Z900 for cheaper for much less. And SV650 and MT07 which is top of the 650 class makes way more sense price to power ratio if you do want to go “beginner” route. Honda’s focus is horrible even if we’re not comparing to euro bikes, they are boring compared to competition of other Japanese bikes and it doesn’t make sense to buy a Honda at least new. I personally like buying new. Yeah people gonna say I’ll lose money but if anything new I’m avoiding Honda. Even they can’t get a good TFT display for their 650 is ridiculous

The more perfect and reliable the bike, the more fun things I can do with it. I love Honda for that. I don't have to deal with repairs, vibrations, bad ergonomics etc.. I just mount, start and yeet my self into joy. I have a 100 000 km Honda CB750 and never had to do anything to it beside fluids, chain, brake pads and a new battery ever 8 years.

To understand why Honda is "boring" you should read Soichiro Honda's biography. While he in his personal life was quite a competitive person his work ethic was second to none and he was absolutely obsessed with making a product that worked for the end user.

About to buy my second Honda and this video confirmed that. Nothing wrong with well designed and reliable, if that’s what you need. And Yammy says get the right bike to suit your needs. Also apart from ‘boring’ dual clutch transmission, Honda were also first to introduce combined ABS (I think) and the NC series features some other smart engine features like pumping the water pump with the camshaft to reduce moving parts - making it super economical so yeah, that makes me excited. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Great video, I am a huge Honda fan, and you have good points. Especially when you say that perfection can be boring. It’s true. I think Honda really tries to aim models at specific demographics. The NC line up is specifically aimed at commuters, 70 mpg and built in storage for your helmet so you don’t have to bring it in with you everywhere you go. It’s a huge seller in Europe. I actually bought a 18 NC750x dct to replace my 94 CB 1000. I’m not disappointed at all. Honestly, I thought I’d miss the standard transmission a bit. After a year of riding it I can say that I don’t miss it at all. Although shifting manually had always been second nature to me, I was amazed at how much more attention I have left to watch out for other vehicles on the road. With Honda’s DCT, you can absolutely still shift gears at will if you want. Sometimes I down shift it for quick stops even while in drive or sport mode. Another small mention, being able to just “twist and go” without worrying about stalling, when at a traffic light, and idiot driver is about to rear end you, is priceless. That being said, I think you’re right about learning to ride on a manual clutch, because there are so many cool bikes out there that starting on a DCT, or a CVT severely limits your choices moving forward. Ten years ago I would never have dreamed I’d own any sort of bike without a clutch. Amazing how Age and experience changes the things that you value.

Why has Honda embraced automatic transmission so motorcycles? Cuz the last generation or even two can't drive stick. So what are they going to do to get them on motorcycles? They're instantly intimidated by the fact that motorcycles have manual transmissions for the most part. The hardest thing for people to learn in a training class is how to operate a clutch without killing the engine or dropping the bike.
