I've done a lot of looking into it, Yamaha's 700 line (MT-07/FZ-07, XSR700, R7) has gained a lot of traction as fantastic starter bikes with a decent amount of putdown so you don't get bored and not too much power to handle, especially in the top end. All bike are real if it involves paperwork and isn't imaginary. Had my bike for almost a year (2020 Ninja 400) and put 8k miles on it but haven't maximized it's potential on the track. Going straight is 1 thing. But taking corners is another.

@@sambeezy007 I live in Colorado and ride through the mountains all the time, I know all about taking corners. If you do much riding up here you will also realize that 300-500cc 'beginner bikes' wont cut it at 11000ft. Not disparaging smaller bikes, just saying don't buy a bike with intentions of moving up later, just buy the bike you want and learn to control it. 600 is all perspective from person to person on how it rides in the streets or low end, I'm enjoying both the low and high ends on my zx-6r sure it's annoying waiting for the red light to turn green to rip it, the heat baking up my crotch, and the seating position making me scoot right up the tank to be able to sit up but sure as hell keeps a grin on my face throughout the whole ride
@kleinbottled793 жыл бұрын
I agree about perspective on the powerband of a 600. I really enjoy the Jeckle and Hyde nature of those engines. Really easy to ride them smooth at lower RPM's and so fun to make them scream up top. It's kinda like having infinitely variable power modes depending on where in the rev range you choose to ride. 'Gutless under 10k' is as much a feature as a bug. If you want the guts, be in the right gear.
@Stratocasterhead513 жыл бұрын
@@kleinbottled79 Gutless below 10k is a blatant lie on the 636. Just for a laugh, compare the power dynos for a RS660 and a 636. They are near as makes no difference identical up to about 10k where the RS peaks. The 636 keeps on pulling till about 14k. 100% agree that having a bike with a "dual personality" is more of a perk than a drawback. So docile and easy at low revs. Sure a MT09 or KTM 890 will pop wheelies with a lot more ease but hey, 636 leaves them for dead in terms of sheer performance.
@kleinbottled793 жыл бұрын
@@Stratocasterhead51 Comparing dyno charts can be very telling. I've noticed that trend before. If a bike has a top end rush it makes the mid-range/low-end 'feel' weak in comparison. I've been riding street bikes since 1976. The Yamaha RD400F is 2-stroke fun. Great at humiliating cars. Older bikes can be a lot of fun. But they weren't as good as my memories of them are. I loved my 1977 Triumph 750 Bonneville. After I got rid of of the Lucas electrics. They called Lucas the Prince of Darkness. It is a lot lighter and trimmer than the new Bonnies. Compared to today the Brakes aren't as powerful but at least the '77 disc brakes. I had a lot of fun. I had a 1993 Yamaha V-Max with the wonderful V-4 engine. Not good for going around corners fast. But with a little tuning it had tons of torque and 140 rear wheel HP. Street rear tires lasted 1,500. Called a Power Cruiser. Or a street legal dragster. Going to the track ment going to the Drag Strip for 1/4 mile. One on one competition. Acceleration is Great fun! So it turned out I needed 2 V-Maxs one for street, one tuned and set up for the strip. The Yamaha RZ350 liquid cooled 2 stroke twins are fantastic fun. But collectors keep the prices high. A good simple cool single cylinder bike is the Yamaha SR500. It was Yamaha's modern version of the BSA Gold Star. Unlike the beautiful Gold Star the Yamaha was reliable as a rock. You just had to learn the ritual of how to kick start a big single. Cheers

2nd bike can be a tricky choice. I had a Ninja 650. in terms of learning how to handle more power it was a natural progression from a Ninja 250, however, as fast as it felt at first, within a few months it felt blah. This isn't a problem if you have money to buy and sell bikes often, but if you're stuck financing it can feel depressing having a four year loan on something that gets boring after 6 months. but I know the ZX-6R would have been too big of a jump from a 250. If you're an aspiring squid, I would say start on something like the R7 or Ninja 650 as the FIRST bike (which I think could be a little daunting for a brand new rider, but doable) then get the 600 supersport as the second bike so you don't get stuck on a slow bike or get on a fast one too quickly. But knowing what I know now, if I had to hold onto my second bike for 3-4 years and was coming from a 250 or 400, I would say a Ducati Scrambler wouldn't be a bad second bike to get "stuck with". It's approachable power, easy to cruise on, but has enough get up and go to be exciting. Also the aesthetics and exhaust note give it more character than something like a Ninja 650 which feels like a sport touring dad bike trapped in a sportbike body after a while. Yeah, the 650 is not a bad looking bike and has reasonable power and handling, but there's something so generic and uninspiring about it too --the exhaust sounds like a blender. Thankfully my 650 was stolen and insurance paid off the loan :p

would you say that the zx6r would a be an ok bike to start on? i’m going to get a motorcycle next summer for the first time and i was thinking of just starting on a zx6r of course i would baby it in the beginning though
@ZX6RBrian3 жыл бұрын
@@lethalvenomx1095 I'm not sure honestly, I learned so much on the 400, I suppose you could ride around in Low power mode vs Full power, its just a toggle switch. In low power still more than the 400, it brings the motor to like 70-80% max power. Big difference too is the ride stance, you're leaned over and tucked more. On the 400 was more comfortable and upright and nimble. I'd feel uneasy learning on a new $10k bike it wasn't too bad mentally learning on a $5k bike. I mean if and when it gets damaged.
@lethalvenomx10953 жыл бұрын
@@ZX6RBrian thanks for the reply! i think i’m going to start on the zx6r and just do the low power mode and baby it for a little until i get more comfortable because i didn’t know it had a low power mode that’s really cool. also i won’t be buying it brand new so the price isn’t too worrysome for me

Having problems choosing between the Honda rebel 1100 and a xsr 700 for a second bike. Started on svartpilen 401 so the xsr feels natural but the cruise control and extra stability on the Honda seem really tempting for the highway. I don't really enjoyed riding a naked bike on the highway for more than a couple exits

I have a Suzuki GZ250, and I found this beautiful example of a Suzuki Marauder 800 for not too much more. If the GZ250 was a first form pokemon, the Marauder 800 would be its evolution (and the Boulevard C90 would be the final form). It's so incredibly tempting but I don't have the money for it. I think my 2nd motorcycle will be a middleweight metric cruiser because of how cheap and plentiful they are in my area.

First bike is a KTM Duke II 640. Love it to bits but it's a bit intense for the kind of riding I do. (usually 100+ miles at once, in a group where the pace is not too high.) Everyone's having a great time and I keep on changing gear to somewhat dampen the vibrations. It's a fantastic bike, but I didn't expect to go on trips this long when I started out. Did around 3500 km this season. Really trying to figure out what should be my next bike. I did try a Royal Enfield Interceptor, which would theoretically suit my driving style a lot better, but I found it a bit underwhelming. I do like retro looking bikes, I was thinking Triumph Street Triple but I think the bump in power is a bit too much. Would be fun to read some suggestions here!

Pretty sure they would hate that bike. They seem to hate Kawi's 650 motor first off. Being reliable and a budget do-it-all bike won't cut much mustard with them either. When I rode one on a demo day it seemed 95% as good at being a tourer as my brothers older GS1100, while being much lighter. Not a lot of passion though, and that's a huge no-no for some.

I really want to see a new video with opinions on the MT-10. I'm looking to upgrade my bike, I'm currently on a KTM 390 Adventure. At 6'3" and 230lbs I'm looking for a robust bike that will likely be my last upgrade. Currently I'm weighing between the MT-09, Z900, F900R, Duke 890, and the MT-10. The MT-10 being the outlier, but having all of the juicy options and enough power to grow into and keep me satisfied years down the line. With all of the electronics and rider modes, it seems like a doable bike despite being a liter bike.
