Problem is I was attacked by someone who started with Gen 5 and blamed me for having fun with Pokémon games these days. I really hated that. I hope not many fans who started with Gen 5 are like that

Same here. Started waaay back when Pokémon first arrived here and as far the games go, I'm delighted with the changes over the years and generations. My favourite change has to be the Special/ Physical split in GenIV. It allowed for so much more diversity and freed previously average Pokémon from their chains, so to speak.

Sometimes I wonder why there's so much of it. Obviously, a part of it is just the size and visibility of the fanbase and IP. Statistically speaking, if someone wants to make or commission some art, there's a reasonable chance they're a pokemon fan, that much makes sense, and is fairly properly represented in the art of human characters. But, the sheer volume of it still feels disproportionate, and especially the anomalously high quantity of furry/feral art. Again, statistically it's somewhat likely that someone interested in that stuff is probably a fan of pokemon, but, it's such a high amount compared to other properties. There is more art of individual pokemon than there are for some entire IPs; even relatively unpopular pokemon have pretty high quantities of pornography. Even more amazingly, this has largely breached into mainstream awareness as well. The Vaporeon meme has broken into the sphere of basically anyone who inhabits any space online.

Competitive is easier to get into than ever before. Mints to change natures, bottlecaps for IVs, egg moves pass in picnics if you have the right item and an open move slot. I will still never actually play it but I have pokemon that I could use if I wanted.

Id argue that “cheating” in gen 9 doesn’t really matter because as mentioned before, all you need to have a competitively ready pokemon are a few caps,a mint, and 15 minutes EV training. So cheating is less of “Not fair! You have a broken pokemon on your team!” And more of a “Ok bro, you cheated but what for? You literally could have gotten that great tusk in 20 minutes” Case and point, cheating is annoying but it isn’t as big of a deal as it was back then. “But there hacking in shinies😢” Thats on you for putting value on a Pokémon of a slightly different color that can also be found a lot easier thanks to sandwiches.

Gen 9 Dlc That’s a huge sum of money to just be able to compete. There’s also the problem with trick room teams. I would need to find 6 different mons that have 0 speed IVs and some of them like cresselia are very hard to get. Or, if I want to get one of the genies for a regular team I NEED to catch it in legends: arceus which as you know absolutely sucks ass to do. And it’s not even possible to check ivs in legends arceus so that makes trick room teams even more awful to get. Trading also doesn’t work, because there’s no guarantee that the person who traded you the mon didn’t hack it in. In conclusion: Time to plan is a very valuable resource

well cheating actually still have its place, there is still no way to minimize IVs and trickroom teams need that, lr minimizing your attack IVs on your sp attacker yo minimize foul play damage or more getting the pokemon that arent even in your copy like urshifu being needed in pretty much every team in tournaments, so while big influencers can just ask their fallowers for any poke and receive in minutes, lesser known players that dont want to buy 2 extra games (sword/shield and legends arceus + DLC) play the campaign to just have 1 poke for your scarlet and violet team is oofie. a whole paragraph but ya I kinda dont look down on most hackers since they arent getting a competitive advantage(since stats are all legal), its more of getting to the main point already, afterall catching your pokemon legit doesnt make you a better competitive player amd pokemon dont have a official battle simulator for those people to compete in, so yeaaaaa hacking isnt going away anytime soon :^ but ya just wanted to leave it out cuz hey, at least in pokemon hacking is mostly chill in co petitive when compared to pretty much any game, where people actually try to get advantages and I think its cool hackers respecting the legit stats and move sets for this stuff

Envy: supporters of the smaller ships can get pretty jealous off all the attention some ships get. I got randomly recommended this video and as a fan for more than 13 years I gotta say I agree 100% with pretty much this whole video. And yeah your take on scarlet and violet is also justified and you are talking to a guy who perfectly falls under gluttony( 750+ hours on Pokémon sword and thousands more from gems 1-7yet the 200+ hours on violet was much more enjoyable, I just prefer sword because of shiny hunting Pokémon not available in the new game).

As a fan for more than 13 years I must say I agree 100% with the things you said especially with scarlet and violet being underrated( and this is talking to a guy who very much falls under gluttony due to 750+ hours on Pokémon sword and at least 200+ hours on every other Pokémon mainline game and Pokémon mystery dungeon game EACH). The only reason why I would ever prefer sword or shield, legends arceus, and BDSP is the fact that I want to shiny hunt Pokémon available in those games respectively. these new games despite their obvious flaws was so much fun and I still do have fun just causally just riding my miraidon all around the region( even if I always get stopped by small tiny Pokémon just trying to hatch a shiny starter they keep giving us with these 7 star raids).

Scarlet and Violet would've been my favorite Pokemon game of all time if it weren't for the bugs, glitches, frame rate issues, hell I crashed once, lucky it was right after an auto save but still. As someone who's planning on making games when they're 18 or older (I'm 17 so there's the context. Almost 18 tho, and that's gonna suck, because people will say I'm an adult. And I honestly don't wanna be an adult lol) I can't support a company who will not allow the polishing and actually care needed and instead rush games out. This was a leap they were making, but they didn't have the road to jump to. And the longer the issues with SV continue, the more I've distanced myself from the Switch era of Pokemon. And I was one of the people who was stupid enough to try to defend the trees in Sword and Shield ok, I am actually making reasonable decisions now. So I think we need to boycott Pokemon. Pokemon GO is having a boycott because of all it's issues, and now the competitive scene issues on two completely different ends of the same spectrum... Pardon my (insert another language here) but Pokemon is currently f*cking up more and more, and becoming even more popular despite it. By far and large, I love your content dude! It draws me in even when I need to be working on other things lol (although I get distracted by a lot of things lol). That said, I do feel strongly about saying that I emphatically believe you completely misunderstand "Gen 1'ers." I mean, I can't speak for all of them, and tbh I really don't know if I would even call myself a Gen 1'er per se, but my first Pokémon was Yellow version on the GB color. Anyway, I know for me at the very least, it's not so much about the innovation and introduction of new game mechanics over the generations. In fact, I don't believe there's a single "Gen 1'er" who'll try to argue that the physical/special split wasn't a monumental improvement or that dynamic turn order doesn't make the game make more sense now, or even that the addition of items and Pokemon abilities weren't the greatest idea since sliced bread! Oh, and literally everybody (Gen 1'ers included) are ecstatic with not only the quality of life improvements over the past few generations but the ability to perfect any Pokémon's IV's, use as many vitamins as you want, and change their natures, etc etc... LEGAL competitive Pokémon has never been more accessible as it has been now and I know most Gen 1'ers are happy about that too!! Now, I think everyone's a little more on the fence when it comes to crazy changes, like the addition of mega evolutions (which centralize the competitive meta game around the select, chosen few blessed with mega evolution and almost destroyed VGC), and I'm not sure I've heard anybody say that they actually liked the over-powered, Z-moves (at least not out loud lol). And I know SOME people complain about even things like dynamax (which on the surface you have to admit, seems stupid asf lol) but I believe that actually brought some much needed balance back to Pokémon that otherwise weren't viable and unlike mega evos, any and all Pokémon got the ability (albeit there's still only a few that were blessed with a special move, at least those moves weren't too over-powered, except Charizard's of course lol). And there's definitely many who don't like Terastallization, although PERSONALLY I find that gimmick the most fun out of all of them and easily the least broken gimmick they ever introduced. My point being, the "gimmicks" are where Gen 1'ers become kinda divided... The one area I believe really defines what Gen 1'ers collection "hate" about newer Pokémon though, isn't purely those aforementioned things, but rather it revolves almost entirely around design... As each generation goes on, new Pokémon designs have become increasingly more and more lazy looking, uninspired, or simply stupid asf!... I've already gone on too long and would be surprised if anyone's read this far lol (although I kinda hope you do lol..), so I don't wanna write an entire thesis on why Pokémon designs have gotten worse (although, I seriously could LOL.. I know, I know, I care WAY too much about a children's video game lol 😅). But just to give a couple quick examples, look at Pidgey from Gen 1 versus say Fletchling from Gen 6... Take a look at the care and detail that goes into Pidgey, a very un-extraordinary bird by all means, but there's so much detail in the legs, it's talons, it's feathers and even beak, Spearow too has so much detail drawn into its design. Now look at Fletchling.. notice how instead of "realistic" sorts of detail it is drawn with literal stick legs?.. there's no real detail in the feathers, just sort of these broad strokes of flat color made with very simple, angular shapes. It looks very cartoon-y. Now I know, it IS a cartoon, but hopefully, you see what I'm getting at.. and before you say it, I'll admit that Talonflame fixes a few of these designs travesties. But Fletchling is far from the only one! Another one that jumps straight to my mind is the difference in design between Pokemon of the actually same evolutionary line! Look at Tangela's and Tangrowth's designs. Tangela is far from perfect, but for the most part, there's a lot of detail and care put into shaping and drawing each of his visible vines that envelope his body (but sure, the feet are pretty stupid I'll admit). Now a few generations later when he gets a new evolution, it's drawn very lazily in comparison with only a few segments of vines given any but of detail just here and there on him to try and give like the "illusion" that he's covered in vines. And what the hell has its stupid feet become now?? And why are his tentacle arm tips red?? (Admittedly, that last ones less important but always bothered me for some reason lol). I could honestly keep going on but for the sake of anyone still reading, I'll stop there.. But aside from the argument that aesthetics are only something in the eye of the beholder and not everyone's gonna like everything (which I fully agree with), the problem really starts becoming apparent when you place these Pokémon next to each other in game. Often, older Pokémon are brought into newer generations and the more serious, detailed style of the past clashes hard with the more simplistic, cartoon-y style of more present games. They often DO NOT look like they belong in the same game at all! There's no cohesiveness to the overall designs which can really ruin the immersion. And don't even get me started on the inspirations of newer Pokémon (or the lack thereof). I mean, we used to get dinosaur monsters, vicious plants, charming fairies, and ferocious dogs, nowadays we get literal keychains, talking/floating ice cream cones, a lamp, household appliances, living garbage bags, even an actual f***ing car! I mean, I understand that creative genius can only get you so far and eventually you'll run out of ideas, but we've only just hit 1000 Pokémon.. they shouldn't already be so desperate for Pokémon ideas that they've had to resort to making literal machine gears as Pokémon. It's not even like they're just gear-like, no! They are actually NOTHING but gears spinning each other! Oh, and I guess they have a couple nuts and bolts that kinda look like a face, but WTF?!?! If that's not lazy Pokémon design, I seriously don't know what is!...

I mean, if the nature is negatively impacting a valuable stat, then yeah, I'll reset that boy. Don't really care about the IVs or neutral natures but a negative nature is such an obvious flaw that it feels really bad to use sometimes. I will always remember the Golduck I used in Pokemon XD, which had an Adamant nature. Absolutely sucked that it couldn't OHKO anything to save its life

I really enjoy catching shiny pokémon as after it found my first it's become a personal favorite past time in the games but after a long time and a lot of luck I've more than 100 shinies I've personally captured...I rarely flaunt and brag about it outside of a comedic sense and have managed to keep each one I've caught and traded duplicates to friends of people who've never had one to try to make that spark to find their own like I had. I give everyone who read this a "Sparking Power 3" to help you in your own hunts.

Oh the scalpers got so bad at some of the stores I worked at we had to put a limit on what they could buy as well as all their known associates. As for the pkhex thing, at least on the brightside with that is that game freak is implementing ways to make getting perfect and battle ready pokemon easier the last couple of generations. In my opinion sword and sheild was pretty good and scarlet and violet was the best! Sword and sheild does not have a lot of fun in it and scarlet and violet is very long and has cool features! The fps may be ehhh sometimes and the cutscenes may be very long but that just makes the game more challenging but may be annoying.

I use PKHex in my Leaf Green playthroughs but it's just to make Venomoth's movepool better, it can't learn fly despite having massive wings and you can only get signal beam through breeding, and you can only breed pokemon after the elite four

My japan exclusive envy were the mystery gift events where a pokemon gets a really strong move it normally wouldn’t learn such as v-create rayquaza in 2012 or bolt strike victini. I would’ve included extreme speed linoone but then in usum you could breed for one (also it technically was obtainable through pokemon box ruby and sapphire but it is expensive to have had everything required)
