How about: Don't mindlessly wander around the entry/exit to transition or the run finish after your race is done. I've occasionally had to dodge people from earlier waves who seemed to think that because they were done, the whole event was done and the could walk or stop and chat wherever they wanted.

I showed up super early to a race once to get a prime transition spot, and a half hour before race start someone showed up and tried to cram in next to me instead of setting up further back in the setup area where there was plenty of space. Show up early, or accept what you show up to.

That's why I like swimming in an Olympic swimming pool it's much better than a standard pool, and since I usually train alone it's safer than open water .sometimes I go in open water if lm with a group, but that's rare. Well guys take care and keep on training👍💪🤠🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️🥋🏋️‍♂️

Don’t simply blow your nose of green slimy moist snot unaware of other athletes near you. Happened to me when I was cycling during my 70.3, an old man infront of me blew his nose, snot splattered on my face and some even went into my mouth. Had to waste half of my water bottle just to clear it off and force myself not to throw up while cycling. It was very disturbing and disappointing.

Do no sneak your way thru the starting line. If you are in a draft-legal tri, have the decency of rotating places so to share a bit of the wind breaking burden. Do not suck the wheels all the way up to T2. Also, do not mock slower bikers when passing by, they may overtake you in the running leg.

C sm, I am a sub-5 hours-Ironman biker. I have only one bike, my TT bike. Yes, I do not go for social rides too often, unless it is specified to be fast and long. However, there could be "half-serious cyclists" who simply do not like to buy more than what they need. Let's face it, number of cycles owned is not proportional to how good a cyclist one is!!

1. You can get multiple suits of the same type and size and rotate their usage. You also go there to train, not to parade, so if someone thinks you look "silly", let them. You should not care. 2. Find a club that does or just ride alone. You don't need a club to read a clock and a power meter. Considering drafting is illegal in Iron Man competitions, you might as well be better outside a cycling club as most groupies tend to draft in long rides. If you want to train, go on the bike you're going to race, if you want a more social ride, then normal road bike is OK. 3. This I do agree with. If the lake is dirty or you got "problems", better wear something that is not white :) 4. Yes, knowing the goal of each of your training sessions is important. 5. Transitions can be very hectic, but I do agree you should take care about the other's people equipment. 6. That is just being an asshole. Unintentional dunking can happen, or very close splashes. If the water is really dirty and you're caught by the "washing machine", events like these are almost unavoidable. 7. Disagree. Your body needs to know how to react in race equipment. Also aero helmets look really cool :).

Bruno Vasco focus on controling your body, leaning forward, and just let the hill speed you up. your turnover (left foot right foot left right...) should naturally speed up if you resist the urge to take massive strides, which can drive a lot of impact thru your legs. this isnt science, well it might be, but im just speaking from personal experience and hearsay.

I am brand new to training with Triathlons and there is a cycling shop near me that does group rides on Wednesday that I am super excited to do. Why is it considered bad to ride one in a group ride / should I just not go to the group ride so they don't hate me?

A lot of groups/clubs don’t allow TT bikes at all, but if it’s a pretty informal and small group, and you agree to not get on the aero bars, they might be comfortable riding with you. Otherwise, it’s not uncommon to get a cheap road bike for training.

Slow runners on the first lane of the track. Is there any rool about this?
@8ajg
@8ajg 6 жыл бұрын
At my local running track, the rule is all about 'effort'. If you are 'on your effort' i.e. going as fast as you can, then you are perfectly ok to use the inside lane, even if you are relatively slow. Faster runners should pull out to overtake you. The error would be to 'jog' in the inside lane and get in the way of other runners who are running as fast as they can on their 'effort'. It generally works quite well, but not sure if it is a universal rule. As in all things, a bit of consideration and courtesy goes a long way
@malutz1
@malutz1 6 жыл бұрын
Indeed - repeats in lane one (especially anything longer than a 400, as the stagger doesn't work out so well), but active rest jogging/warmup/cool down in the infield or lane 6/8, no matter how fast or slow you think you are.

I use the rule if I am running for time over a specific distance I can use the inside lane. If I am running for time only and the distance is of no concern than I run in an outer lane. Most slow runners and certainly most walkers are only on the track for a set length of time and distance does not matter so they should be in an outer lane.

Guys, I love the channel but why are you so obsessed with what the guys at your club think about you using your gear? If they have a problem with it, then perhaps they’re not quite in tune with the “supportive nature” the triathlon community likes to boast about? I, for instance, am a fat knacker trying to get my useless, round self in shape and have recently donned the Lycra for my rides. It’s not because I think it looks cool, or improves my aerodynamics, it’s because it’s comfortable and prevents my perineum from chafing into dust. If I hear any comments at a club about how stupid I look, they’ll be referred to a mirror. Nobody’s winning any trophies for style with what looks like half a nappy shoved up your crack. Wear what you want, ride what you want.

Interesting. In the US, on my group ride, TRI bikes and/or aero bars are discouraged. This is because in a tight pace line, being aero is dangerous. Hands need to be right near the brakes at all times. TRI bikes are intended for riding alone. That's why they're aero!
@janpeterlassen7791
@janpeterlassen7791 6 жыл бұрын
In my eyes it's a safety issue. Riding your TT bike on a club ride might be ok, but riding it in the aero bars is definitely a no-go! You have much less control over your bike (unless you are Sebastian Kienle); thinking of crosswinds, controlling the distance to the rider in front of you, avoiding road hazards or reaching for your water bottle. And speaking of water bottles: pls. make sure your BTS bottles are safe from being ejected when riding on a rough road.

I think enough cannot be said about swimming etiquette during a open water swim and triathlon swim. I have experienced the worst from scratches to fists on the back without any action taken by officials. Marshals are quick to point out drafting on bikes etc but nothing during swims. show some swimming etiquette for those idiots who don't know how to swim in open water or races.

What? No aero helmet?
@xGshikamaru
@xGshikamaru 6 жыл бұрын
The no white suit rule is silly since white reflects more light, thus keeping you cooler than black which absorbs all light for instance, and the difference is quite significant. Torbjorn Sindballe used to use full suits to help him with heat dispersion for this reason. Next best colour is yellow but it's far less effective than white... That is a reason I won't be getting a GTN kit except if there's a winter kit available, black is predominant on it, which is a bad idea even if it might look cool.

Btw I would add, if you're concerned about white getting semi-transparent, remember you will have your race number in front of your private parts...

It said that “Don’t wear aero helmet on training ride.” But I like aero helmet and if I wear only for race day, $100+ helmet end up using only once or twice a year!! Triathlon is money costing than other sports!!

you can't write an un-written rule in the comments as it then becomes a written rule. only joking. hate it on road rides when people dangerously overtake then immediately turn off. Not sure if it's a rule tho

Triathlon- by far the best sport with the biggest disparity to the worst culture. Triathlon or competitive CrossFit are a close tie. GTN you guys are awesome but just being honest about the general culture. Too many rich pricks that couldn’t make the varsity team growing up 😂😂.

Racing Ironman for a number of years all the way up to Kona level, I have to say these rules are pretentious, even though I follow them too. I don't wear my tri suit to run, or aero gear to train ,etc. But if someone choose to wear it...why do we care? It's not hurting anyone else. The other suggestions about not moving other people's stuff in transition are in fact written in the rules if I am not mistaken? I know you are both tri insiders...I think you can come up with more interesting content then this very generic list.
@Maxwaehrens
@Maxwaehrens 6 жыл бұрын
Also, why the hell would anyone care the slightest if you wear an aero helmet during training? I mean unless, it's blocking out all noise so that you can't chit-chat then that's understandable. But otherwise I just don't see why that should be an unwritten rule.

I don't agree with the aero helmet and TT bike comments in this video. Not all of us can afford two bikes and I think you should train as you race. If you are planning to wear an aero helmet on your race day, why not wear it for the training sessions? It would be silly wearing it on the trainer, yes, but why not for a club ride? We train with other riders and never made anybody feel bad about showing up with a TT bike, aero helmet or for wearing a full tri-suite. If you get ridiculed for it, you might as well find a nicer set of people to train with.

Naw, baby, naw! The only "road bike" I own is a tri/time-trial bike with aero bars (and I will lean forward and use forward controls all I want). If the group can't keep up, then they do not need to train with me! Okay....this is probably why I ride alone :(
