Deciding on a longer term rental, we move into our new neighborhood and say goodby to Julio and Emilia and their lovely farm. Before we do though, they give me a gift that really helps!
My name is Mora Margaret and I'm traveling with my two dogs by car through Mexico, seeking a special place for relocation.

Sweet ! I hope your contentment with your present abode continues. I moved into my current house in Ajijic on Aug 5 and didn't find out until after I signed the rental agreement that the rent included a gardener who comes twice per week and a housekeeper who comes once per week. Being one who highly values my privacy, it was a challenge to come to terms with these intrusions. I plan my daily walks and shopping excursions accordingly.

Hi, Mora, Love, love your travel vlogs!! Mexican people are so generous and neighborly. On one of my travels to Oaxaca, I fell into a deep pot hole, and my fellow travel companions came to my rescue. Luckily, one of them was a dentist (LOL) and cleaned my knee.. This is just an anecdote of how helpfull they are. One of my fantasies is to retire in Mexico. But, one of concerns is being single woman alone without immediate family. I'm American of Mexican descent, and as you have by now learned, the culture is very close. Your videos have given me an insight of what to expect living alone. Also, it gives comfort that you were able to have your fur babies withh you! Bendiciones!

Mora I passed through Patcuaro on my moto back in the 80's. I still wonder about the Japanese pharmacist I traveled with who was doing the same but was traveling around the world back then. I went on to Belize and then returned to the U.S. This story is about the resourcefulness of the Mexicans I crossed path with. One time on my travels to Mexico I took a local bus to go down into the Copper Canyon. The Copper Canyon is as deep or deeper than the Grand Canyon. Someone had carved a steep steep dirt road into the Copper Canyon! On the bus I heard a familiar sound I knew well. There is a part on the driveshaft called a u-joint that will make a unmistakable sound when it is due for a change. So we are a good 30 miles from a small town on a hill loaded with 30 people in a bus making that sound when the bus driver pulls over on a steep steep dirt rubble filled road. Yes he was going to fix the issue. Being semi mechanical and doing that repair myself a few times but on a steep hill with no replacement bearing? He blocked off the tires and disassembled it all. Instead of a strong mechanical bearing he whips out his belt and cuts off a part to fill the space left by the bearing and we went on our way. No problemo we made it back +30 miles to the jumping off point town. I'm still shocked and salute him to this day on what that driver accomplished. I salute you too for the adventure you are on.

Hola Mora! What a beautiful new home for you and your pupsters! Do you plan on staying there awhile longer? With that view of the lake you are most likely experiencing what has become known as having a "blue mind" The science shows that that being near, in or just spending time around water can make you happier, healthier and more connected. A dear old surfing friend of mine who passed away in June wrote a book about this that expounds on this phenomenon. His name was Wallace J. Nichols and the book is simply called "Blue Mind" it's good read. BTW- Did the mechanic that helped you out show you how to fix your latch if it happens again? It's actually very easy. You just have to pop back open the latching mechanism that normally snaps shut around the latch base that it hits as you close the hatch. In other words you somehow hit the latching part and "snapped it closed" by accident when your hatch was up and opened. You probably hit with something while you were loading or unloading....If that makes any sense! Another BTW- Patzcuaro is one of the few larger Pueblo Magicos and is known for it's celebration of Dia de los Muertos. It's also known for it's enchiladas placeras, corudas and even though it stays pretty cool year round, it's ice cream! MMM! Mucha suerte desde la hermosa Ensenada!

@@MoraMargaret I think they meant to write corundas, not corudas. While you're in Patzcuaro be sure to visit Janitzio, an island in the middle of the lake where you could go up a 40 meter statue via a staircase that spirals to the top. Enjoy yourself while in Michoacán.

@@MoraMargaret Hi Ted and Chap here. Love that your able to explore so causally and share your adventures. I’m looking to set up base in the Chapala area next spring and travel from there. The attraction is the soft landing aspect that the region offers. I prefer cooler weather in the 60-70’s (80’s is ok) as I’ll be coming from the PNW. I’ve been to a lot of the Pacific Coast and Mexico City. I especially like seeing how well your dogs do and what dog amenities there are: parks, cafes, stores, vets etc. In one video had a pack of what could be considered aggressive dogs. Felicidades! It's a beautiful place! Please tell me what website(s) or source(s) you use to find longer-term rentals? I'd like to know what works best in Mexico. I also would enjoy the privacy and beauty you have found, and I like to stay for 1-4 weeks when I am traveling in a new location. It makes for a good home base. If you feel it appropriate, please share how you pay for your lodgings. Is it online by credit card or do you negotiate directly and pay in cash for some places? Years ago I lived in Mexico City, and I recall most transactions were done in cash. Some credit was used, but that seemed to be the exception. I'd love to know the current situation. Thanks!
@MoraMargaret
@MoraMargaret 5 күн бұрын
Well in Mexico "long term'" is 6 months or longer so 1-4 weeks is still (unfortunately) just covered mainly by airbnb. A few areas use craigslist like Guanajuato. As you may know airbnb works with online credit/debit cards. If I ever made a deal with a rental owner away from airbnb, I paid in cash. (this is one reason I have a rental referral page on my website, so people can skip the middle man: MoraMargaret.com) For this longer term rental I pay the monthly rent in cash. It is my first long term in Mexico and I was looking at all the sites (google casa en renta in the area you like) but I found the two houses I considered both on Facebook group pages for the expats in the area. Initially the landlady thought I could do a bank transfer but I don't have a Mexican account so cash became the way we do it.
