@@BattyButtercup not only Eduardo gave you the song's name, I'll give you the genre to seek similar music (though you probably know it already)! It's pretty much under both "outrun" (more fast paced form of synthwave), "darksynth" (heavier beats and mood synthwave) and "cyberpunk" (aggressive synthwave with glitch elements) Devilman Crybaby OST is strikingly similar to this one (under the same three subgenres), especially songs like "Judgement" or "Sabbath". Some Hotline Miami tracks also fit, and to a less extent, precursor French House songs too (like Daft Punk's Tron OST or Kavinsky's Outrun album).

Which is completely backwards since these types of puzzle games you had to have patience and/or smarts. I'd encourage my kids to play such if I had any. It's obviously not Lukes preferred genre, plus it's slow moving due to age and they were time restricted. I'm sure I spent like a year on this as a kid!

@@ACWells13 how old are you? Because that word was used with no ill meaning for decades. My gen all grew up calling Esmeralda from Disney a gypsy without malice. Only people can give or take meaning from words, and somehow people have made this an ugly word instead of the descriptor it was. Now, gyp on the other hand, as a verb, is definitely offensive as it uses that descriptor to attribute a group of people to a negative action.

You know, I really would like them to cover more classic style adventure games on this channel (including newer ones that are made in the same style, such as Cognition or the Blackwell games). However I'm not sure it would work if they extended this series to games like those. You know, actually good games that don't have the retro FMV cheese factor. Part of the schtick of these hallowstream playthroughs is that Andy and Luke take the piss out of these games. I just don't think that will work for games that are more respected and beloved. They would either have to reverentially let the story play out and actually try to solve the puzzles. (So each game would probably take multiple sessions, sort of like the way Ellen plays the Dark Souls games.) Or they would end up making fun of a game like Grim Fandango, which would ultimately be pretty obnoxious to watch.

GAMES ARE BACK I can't believe I've never heard of this game. Clearly an inspiration for modern game classics like Dark Souls (with a shortcut going back to the Library) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (with a bathing scene), but also paving the way for the Netflix hit series The Queen's Gambit, because nobody really understands chess.

The whole bishop puzzle bit is incredible. Highlights just from that segment of the stream only include Luke being pulled out for what was basically a "this puzzle is really bad" message, Andy announcing that they were only just at the half way point when it looked like they were almost done and Luke's outrage at the lack of a scene making the whole thing pointless anyway. Love it.

Just did a spot of accidental research and found a subtle link between the FMV classics this year: the music for this and Orpheo's Curse was done by George "The Fat Man" Sanger. He also had a hand in the music/sounds for The Rocketeer (which I can recall my father playing a lot...and getting mad at, lol), Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and everyone's favorite hamster-exploding sim Maniac Mansion.

Tbf, the library is the clue room so having every room lead there makes sense gameplay-wise. The less counterintuitive way would have been to just let the player character carry the book around and have all the hints including the maze map inside it.

I was driving a semi in the mountains of rural Arkansas at 3am-ish and had to turn the volume down halfway through the 3rd chess puzzle because I had laughed myself to tears listening to this! One of those high pitched, I'm running out of breath laughs and I started not to be able to see! I was hauling 43k too! This stream has the same vibes as the spicy jelly bean challenge- on the one hand I felt so sympathetic towards the pain Luke and Andy experienced playing this, but on the other hand it was extremely entertaining AND cathartic. The fact Andy played this as a child, somehow missed/repressed the s*x bed scene, AND went on to choose a career in video games is absolutely staggering. That he does not know how to play chess to this day is also 100% related to the numerous unpleasant and absurd chess puzzles that have nothing to do with chess 😂 Chess is back folks!

I was 24 when The 7th Guest was released and I loved it! It hurts me a bit for it to be mocked. Almost 30 years later it's clear it's a product of it's time, but this was the bee's knees of the CD game revolution (we were used to multiple floppy disc games, remember). Fun fact: I would often tie an onion to my belt (which was the style at the time) before playing the game. And don't get me started on trying to get hints; you and your fancy "GameFAQs." I would have to ask a Pony Express rider to go out and get me a hint and then a week later...

I'm truly amazed that the person who has the perspicacity and patience to work out and react to the attack patterns of a Dark Souls boss can *possibly* sit at the bishop puzzle and not immediately notice that every second move is the mirror of the one before it. It's not that the '90s games are *bad*; it's that '90s gamers were expected to have different skill-sets to the ones expected now.

I was terrible at the puzzles and never finished the game. I think I got stuck in the crypt. Mostly I remember getting freaked out by the beckoning ghost lady jumpscare in the hallway and then singing "There She Goes" by Sixpence None The Richer every time she appeared after that so I wouldn't startle. Now it's a hilarious memory of my childhood.
