I'll never be the level of train enthusiast who cares about the specific paint scheme details between different railroads over a century ago, but I enjoy other peoples' enthusiasm about such things and I'm glad this game will give that satisfaction to those who seek it. :) I'll also appreciate the beauty of the models and attention to detail even if the exact specifics are lost on me.

The thing that's nice is that I feel like they capture the most important thing for rail fans like us that just enjoy the experience - the capture the sights and sounds of railroading. They want great sounding whistles. Steam that responds to weather. Landscapes that actually match the part of the country they're imitating, with the correct species of pine. They know that in the end, they need to make the game _feel_ good to capture that great romance with railroading.

Hyce, suggestion for you, headlamps should not be blindingly bright when you are not directly in the direct path of the beam. I would have to run some math and what a typical 20 inch would reflector would have for a spread of light, but I can do that for you. The parabolic reflector does a good job keeping the light concentrated forward. When I built Glenbrook's headlamp burner, I was able to easily light up trees about 120 ft away, but only in a concentrated circle. Other than being able to see the flame directly, and maybe some flaws in the reflector, if you are 15 or 20 degrees off center from the normal of the headlamp, you really wouldn't have a terrible glare from the headlamp. I mentioned this because the reality of it will make the game a bit more playable if you're beside the locomotive at night in game, not always getting blinded.

Madison! So good to see you here. I actually used some pictures I've seen of work you've done to try and get the overall tone and color right for the oil lights. I'd love to directly chat with you about how it should look - you fine folks are the ones who know it better than anyone else. That said there may be some limitations within the lighting engine but I'll give it the best go I can. :)

39:00 Oh my god I love this UI it's so cool looking, stylized, and it doesn't obstruct what you want to see (if only some games that release now could learn that last one), having a key that allows the UI to hide is amazing, too! Edit:Oh my goodness I love the snow fighting! It looked like those pictures of the locos fighting big drifts of snow with a wedge plough on the front!

This game, the level of detail and gameplay. Folks, I hope it isn’t lost at how spectacular this endeavor is given this isn’t being built by some big game developer with unlimited resources to create it. A true testament to the hard work and dedication of all the people creating such an immersive and realistic steam railroading experience in a video game.

While this era of steam never bit my interest the same as the late steam era (1930's to 1950's), I appreciate the absurd attention to detail they are giving these locomotives. Instead of loosely copying a single prototype of a 4-4-0 and giving it 6 different paint jobs, they have gone into an absolute maniacal level of detail. Lots of respect and keep up the good work!

I'm not really someone who is much into railroad history, but I will watch every single one of these videos and if things continue the way it looks to be I will play the hell out of CoS whenever it releases, six months or six years from now. So much of the internet creative space feels like one-upmanship and exclusive ideas on how to create and discounting anything whoever's typing doesn't like. Instead, CoS looks to be the prime example of passion, love, care, and community in a project that many of us aspire to. Each video is not only an incredibly positive experience, it's almost soothing to watch the pure love every single one of you has. Keep on making your vision a reality, we will all keep being here for it :)

Stunning representation, just amazing. The snow fighting with the stunning sound is just sensory overload. Gimme now 😂😂 Not sure just how much longer I can deal with the anticipation I really hope we get to experience this all this year. Watching the stack heat haze with the snow capped mountains in the background is just so lifelike. Hats off to everyone involved; modelling, teraforming and sound just phenomenal. ❤

The release of the game is a "get there when we get there thing." They don't know if it'll be this year, next year, or whenever. They want to get the game right, something that's not just pretty, but _feels_ good to experience, is fun to play, and is historically accurate. All that will take time. Thankfully they're showing us a lot, so I feel like I can endure the wait. 🙂

Don't know if this'd be too insane or not, but: what if there was an advanced consist mode where you give proper whistle commands, and following locomotives will acknowledge and act according to command? That or you just give a whistle signal and they sync their controls to yours and use a whistle signal to show they're doing what you're doing.

Eh, derail valley is a different kind of game. It uses pre placed track, focusing on complex operations, this will do its own gameplay stuff. Derail valley gives a look at European railroads, and CoS looks at American narrow gauge. There's plenty of train games, but they can all exist in harmony. After all, even buying like four train sims is still cheaper than getting into model railroading 😆

Its wild to think that if even one in a million combinations make sense, everybody to ever play the game would likely still have combinations nobody else has ever used. Crazy town. Having played a lot of games with terrain deforming "mud" before, I do worry a little bit about watching the plow "creeping" forwards under power when stopped into the snow bank, there needs to be some threshold of speed which a train needs to reach else it becomes stuck fast, or players will just leave the bar forwards and go for a cup of tea while it inches away, rather than actually enjoying immersive/emergent game-play the requires either new techniques or equipment... but I remind myself how far this has come in the last 6months and not to judge things you haven't really talked about in detail yet as if they where the final versions intended for release.

An idea for getting new locomotives and rolling stock I have is have an NPC or something they would use back in the day for long distance communication, and when the player interacts with it, a menu pops up showcasing a list of different builders like Baldwin or Lima, that existed at that time and when the player clicks on a builder they are taken to a menu showing different types of locomotives and locomotive designs said builder made and the stats of each. Also have a brief description of each locomotive or design that is historically accurate, and have the player click a button that says “order” or “buy”. Each locomotive and design should be fully customizable, and have the builder bring the ordered locomotive or completed design based on the player’s customization choices to the player on an optionally customizable interchange track. Same thing applies to rolling stock., which can be in the same menu as the locomotives and locomotive designs for simplification purposes. Also have a sell option for the player, so they can sell stuff they don’t need and is taking up needed space. Also, have an optional message pop up saying where said sold item(s) were sold to. Items can include things like locomotives, rolling stock, parts, and required materials to build a locomotive. The place where these items get sold to should be random and based on where these items would be sold to back in the day. Each different selling place should give the player more or less money than others depending on the place and number and kind(s) of items sold.

digging through a history book and it looks like Baldwin recycled the patten for Queensland Railways (running on 3ft 6 inch gauge). Although you'll notice right away the that for quite a while QR ordered them with tenders that sat on 4 wheels instead of on two trucks. With later orders they ordered higher capacity tenders that sat on two trucks. The photo's of these engines are some times a bit odd - you have a US looking loco pulling UK style passenger cars. When they were overhauled QR didn't bother with the tapered boilers as they didn't have the expertise to build boilers that complex.

They have alluded to having rotaries in the future. The game after all is trying to give a portrayal of accurate narrow gauge railroading from 1869 to 1969, and rotaries would have been a big part of winter railroading in the mountains, when wet get into the more modern era. As for the more modern equipment, I _really_ want to see it too. It seems like they're focusing on honing the earlier parts of the game first, and also keeping that heavier modern equipment as a nice treat for later down the line 🙃
