That’s awesome! I love any quote or saying about gardening or that has a garden reference. Here’s a Mexican proverb I just came across yesterday... ‘They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.’ ... Great saying for anyone working toward a cause that the ‘establishment’ refuses to recognize.

What a great idea! I remember Jess saying in the first soil bag video, that she felt she cut it too far over, but it seems it spreads under the weight of the soil (especially after being watered) no matter what. That "window" look with the strip bracing it sounds like it would keep things all together! TFS! 👍
@racebiketuner3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your great idea! I think it would also work to keep other large bags of garden supplies together, especially sand. I found it helps keep things together if I cut the opening into an ellipse or at least round the corners.

I would take a little soil out so I could "fluff up" the soil. It tends to be packed in there into an almost solid mass.
@danielleroseclark5 жыл бұрын
If you put the bag on its edge, instead of flat, that would allow room for longer root vegetables like carrots. I remember somebody suggesting that once for tomatoes as well, as it gives the roots more room. Plus the bags don't dry out as quickly. Thank you Jess for another lovely and inspiring video xxx

Whether you are teaching methods of gardening, the wisdom you can acquire from failure, caring for animals, dealing with family matters, including loss, or sharing how the gospel pertains to us, you are inspiring, encouraging, honest, and can instill a sense of ability in most anybody to start wherever they are at. We learned SO MUCH! Next years garden will def be set up completely different, Lol! Also, we got so much food from our garden! I started canning for the first time....and I have squash and peppers coming out of my ears! We have our own pumpkins, even watermelon! Another thing gardening has done for me is began a love for houseplants. I had 2 before we started and now I think I have close to 20. 10:17 Book knowledge is never the same as real life. One can have a Phd in botany and still have to learn when starting a garden in a new place. The new "Daylight" LED lights have a high enough light quality to use as a grow light. They are not overly expensive, widely available, and use very little electricity. This will be my third winter of indoor growing so I am still learning and trying.

Hey dear Jess, thank you for sharing this one! I just got an idea, when I saw you sitting close to your greenhouse window: my atelier, on the top floor, in the middle of the city, has huge windows facing more south than west, and it's not going to be cold in there... I could easily drag in two dozen grow-bags and fill them up with veggies! Maybe even more! Brilliant! Just need to find a way to drain those without getting my neighbour below all rained out :D And when I'm lucky enough to be able to stay there for some time, we can invest in growlights, and trays and such. But for now, grow-bags would totally do. Happy me :D I bless you too, Love from The Netherlands, Diana

I have been so bummed that so many things I tried didn’t grow well in the bright shade I have: all these failed to thrive or produce veg kale, radishes, sugar daddy peas, carrots, Serrano pepper, lettuce barely grew, calendula. Out of everything the only somewhat successes were cherry tomatoes and turnips (that’s it :( although I’ve been waiting to harvest over a month past what it should’ve taken. All this to pick your brain on what you think I could try that would grow in containers and bright shade mild weather year round??? Apartment living and can’t set up a grow lighted area indoors. Cool thanks for the information. I’m going to try tomatoes in a bag but have the bag standing up. Maybe it will work, maybe not lol. Last September I tried corn but the pots were to small (it was as big as bathroom garbage pail. Actually they were, brand new clean ones. They’re cheaper at the dollar store than planting pots) so they didn’t grow great. The corns (first time growing them) started growing ears when they were small but didn’t survive. My friend said she never herd of anyone doing that or even that it started ears early. This year I did them outside and they grow differently (I guess the right way lol). Their ears started later and looked very healthy. I think it has to do with the root space it had, inside and outside. But I’m determined to try tomato plants. Thank you again for the cool idea:)
