ABANDONED UNDERGROUND

Күн бұрын

In this video, Adrian Unknown (channel info further down the description) and I head back to the abandoned Hearst Mine with an aluminum ladder in an attempt to cross a stope! We were unsuccessful, as the ladder was about 10 feet too short (we had a 20 foot extension ladder, we needed a 30 foot). We were able to use the ladder for other purposes, like getting down to a sub-level where we may have encountered a natural void in the mountain. This time around, we also make it to the upper level! I hope you enjoy and if you do, subscribe to my channel!!!
On a side note, I'm sorry for the low lighting in this video. The mine was wet due to rain, and the dark rocks swallowed up the lighting I had at the time.

Hi Justin, that shaft/winze is terrifying, that must have been so absolutely horrifying for the Dad and Brother to hear their Son/Brothers screams as he fell, it just doesn't bear thinking about. Why didn't you guys use the ladder as a bridge over that water ??. A really cool explore, thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖

That tragedy I will always remember. That poor boy... and his family suffering unimaginable loss doing something many love to do. The area with the water was about 110 vertical feet above where we used the ladder on the lower level. We didn't feel like dragging a ladder up that rugged mountain, plus we didn't think we'd need it!

@@ABANDONED_UNDERGROUND Ahhh that makes sense with the ladder, I wouldn't be dragging one up that far either, especially not a big extendable ladder like yours lol. Yes the poor family, it's not something easily overcome is it and no parent should have to bury their child it should be the other way around, bless them. xx

The birds and snakes are dying because the birds get trapped by darkness and can't see to fly and navigate. And the snakes get too far in and get lost in the unfamiliar environment or fall into a tunnel or lower level.

I can understand the snake dying in there, but it is common for owls and bats to successfully live in these places as they are nocturnal creatures. Both are adept to flying in complete darkness. It was just odd... Thanks for watching, and I appreciate your input!

@@ABANDONED_UNDERGROUND Birds need light to see and navigate. Bats navigate in total darkness using echolocation. Big difference. that's why no dead bats in there.

@@davidsul7052 That is true, but I have been in abandoned mines where there were many dead bats either on the floor of the mine or mummified on the back of the adit... Nevertheless, a weird thing...

@@ABANDONED_UNDERGROUND A lot of dead bats means one of two things. Either they died of a White Nose Syndrome epidemic in their colony or someone disturbed them and woke them out of hibernation. If they are disturbed and awoken from hibernation, they will starve to death before spring when insects are available because being awake burns up their calorie stores that they need to make it through the winter..

You not showing location, Im not watching.

There's many reasons why exact locations aren't shared for these things. The most common reasons are due to theft, vandalism, safety for the inexperienced, and closure from land management agencies. It's not difficult for one to find abandoned mines. The information is easily accessible on the internet, or just explore on Google Earth. I have no secret methods of finding these places, just simple detective work. If you choose not to watch for this reason, I'm sorry to hear that, but these videos aren't intended to be advertisement for these locations I've visited.

Your lighting is horrible and when you show a winze your either not close enough to the edge and your lighting is bad. Maybe you should mount your camera on a selfie stick or some kind of device that will extends your camera out over the edge. And I hope your carring an oxygen & toxic gas detector with you on your journeys.

I mentioned that in the description. Back when I visited that mine, the rocks were dark and wet, sucking out the light. I've since gotten a 1200 lumen LED panel and shoot in HDR now. That video was shot with a Gopro, which doesn't do well in low light.

don't you think your channel name is kind of a rip off of franks channel? i don't think ill be interested in this content unless the name changes

I've been exploring abandoned mines for about 15 years now. Until recently, I have decided to start sharing my experiences for my friends and family to see, and from then the general public. The name of my channel reflects on what I do. I didn't know who Frank is until even more recent. Do I think it's a rip off? No, at least that wasn't my intention. Although there are several "Exploring Abandoned _____" channels, I do feel I am going to branch out to other places other than mines due to the AML closing these things up at a record rate. So yes, my channel title will change with a name that reflects the diversified content, not because someone thinks my channel is a rip off. My 100 subscribers to Frank's 100K subscribers, there's no comparison.
