I would compare it to Sega rushing the Saturn to try to get ahead of Sony, only to be met with the legend that is “$299*” They would have been better off working with Disney instead of trying to destroy one of the largest companies in history. *For those not versed in the history of console gaming, Sega, in the mid 90s, was fighting an uphill battle. Sony was about to join the console wars, so Sega of Japan went behind Sega of America’s back and pushed the Saturn out early. They gave this long winded speech hyping the console at the Consumer Electronics Show (the gaming industry had yet to spin off E3) and setting an early release date, which backfired, and the launch price of $399. When Sony did thier presentation to show off the original PlayStation, the head of Sony of America walked on stage, said “$299” ($100 cheaper than the Saturn) and walked off.

Okay in all honestly they probably do know who Wanda is, it's US consumers who don't know what it is. Wanda is a massive congolmerate that owns real estate, including a massive chain of movie theaters and also its own movie studios. They just rushed the theme parks way too hard to compete with Disney's opening and didn't nail down important concepts like what would keep customers coming back. Many of Wanda's indoor theme parks were located inside their massive malls, so people could visit the parks and also do shopping/dining after they were done in the park - but they just didn't understand their audience well enough.

I went into China several ways one is from the China Ferry terminal located at TST to take the highspeed ferry into Zhuhai or cross from Lo Wu(via KCR before now MTR) into Shenzhen where some of the factories are located at. Before the HK highspeed rail was completed I would take the Chinese direct train to Guangzhou from HungHom station and for Shanghai I land in HongQiao and not Pudong, because I usually go to HK first. I really dont know what other information you need from going into the border besides giving them the entry card and the health declaration form passing through immigration which they're in light blue clothing but back in the days it was green. Customs is white and you exit through green or red channels it's pretty straight forward. I think your definition of abject poverty and mine is different, I saw how poor and underdeveloped China was and now all I see is living standards that are way better than before. Cities especially Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing and many more that are simply stunning and infrastructures that put many countries to shame including the US. Everytime I go to China I am amazed with the progress and the changes there. You know what is abject poverty? The homeless people all over dt Los Angeles(skid row) SF, and Seattle. Of course China still has poor people but I've never seen anything remotely like the homeless crisis all over the USA, at least the poor Chinese have shelter over their heads and not sleeping on the streets or creating tent cities. I dont know what ethnicity you are but you dont even know me, and you're assuming that I've never even visited or know about my motherland is extremely insulting. If you don't believe me then theres nothing more I could say nor am I here to convince anyone to begin with. In my earlier post I simply stated my observations and my experiences in China. Maybe you saw something and experienced something I haven't, but I've traveled extensively in the country and it doesn't even look and sound as dire and bad as you say. Brilliant that he accused Disney of lack of innovation (essentially replication) - when where I used to live in Wuhan was 3km away from a life-sized, subtly incorrect and very cheap-looking, replica of the Notre Dame Cathedral. I appreciate Wanda didn't build that, even given all their copying. But still, it's engrained in the general society as an ethos.

Do a video on The World of Sid and Marty Kroft. Awesome indoor theme park in Atlanta that didn't even last a full year back in 1976.

That’s ridiculous. The claims Wanda was making and what they produced as a rebuttal to Disney, only to be punched so hard in the gonads after all of their attempts. It’s basically a shopping mall as the video stated and they thought they were going to go against Disney? Haha. I wonder if the top exects that came up with this even went in one Disney park, I would think not at all because they would have had to have seen the massive massive plot of land, detail, care, and storytelling going on. So crazy. I hope someone buys legendary pictures back from them because somebody else deserves those franchises more who could do them justice. Christopher Nolan movies are some of my favs. What an interesting story though. Great video reviewtyme.

Ah! So THIS is where Disney got the idea for Galaxy's Edge! An all-in-one experience with 2 or 3 rides surrounded by dozens of mall stores! Stroke of genius! ha ha ha

this would've been a better idea if it was MADE to be a mall. like fix some of the prices, have some good name brand shops and STILL keep the rides and i could definitely imagine hanging out with friends there.

7:45 That exact stunt-scene almost killed several crewmembers, because they miscalculated a crash/jump and the car flew past barriers into the area where the crew had been set up.

Wow, I didn’t realize this was in Wuhan. How interesting (considering all that has happened now)! I remember hearing about this park when they announced it and I thought that this would fail, but this video really lays out exactly why it failed in such a spectacular way.

It sounds like they entered the market to combat Disney, and not to introduce a superior product, and instead of innovating and changing the game, they just put on a different uniform, and played the same game. Disney has a whole department dedicated to innovation, and Disneyland was started out of a desire to create something better than anything offered at the time. This parks creators just talked about profits, and beating Disney’s income. Not the way to conquer a market.

Very interesting, if they put something different rather than just simulator rides things may of been better. And well like certain other theme park builders , they need some new ideas rather than " copying "

Why would any person or group ever verbally bash the juggernaut that is Disney so openly and then proceed to try to compete against them? Did they think, because they were a Chinese entity that they would have better relations with the government or something? Hell no. I can imagine Bob Iger hearing about this and going, "that's cute. We'll have them crushed by the end of the week".

Gimmicky movie theatre fails to attract attention. Honestly, the creators needed to understand that any of their movies had to be good stand-alone 2d attractions before they started adding generic techy gimmicks.
