When you enter the gates of Disneyland you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy yet the world of tomorrow has always been troublesome for Disney. In the 1990's Disney put renowned Imagineer Tony Baxter at the helm of a new Tomorrowland that would sadly go down in history as an extreme failure, Tomorrowland 2055.

Now that Galaxy's Edge is open and we've seen how different it is from "spaceport with aliens" idea, I'm even sadder about the already-sad state of Tomorrowland. The "2055" version, or something even more along steampunk/retro future lines, would be a nice addition.

It has been said that Baxter was recently seen on the tracks of the people mover. Appearently he was there to act as an advisor. Supposedly he suggested demolishing the whole of Tommorow Land except for Space Mountain. If this is true, we may actually see a total refurbishment and re-theming of Tomorrow Land.

Star Tours should be moved from Tomorrow Land into the new Galaxy's Edge section. It doesn't really belong there anymore, it's a classic now and IMO it's still one of my favorite rides ever. Adding it to the new land seems appropriate and would only help strengthen it. As far as Tomorrowland goes, it's tricky. I think a retrospective of looking towards the future with and eye to the past could still work, but I don't think the Jules Verne/steampunk vibe could work anymore. I think the focus of Tomorrowland should be towards space, with both a history of and a look into what could be possible, such as where the SpaceX program could go. If they don't move Star Tours, you have a ride there that could be reprogrammed into a simulation of the proposed commercial passenger space shuttle that's supposed to be in the works.

I'm incapable of properly ascertaining exactly WHAT your inspiration and motivations were for having made this video and focused upon the combination elements of past, present & future,Tomorrowland, Discoveryland, STAR WARS Land, Tomorrowland 2055 and the special emphasis you devoted pretty much exclusively on the lovely imagineer and architectural visionary, Mr. Tony Baxter, such as you (seemingly to me as it was all chugging along branching out into ever further flung territories) such as you did, and I just wanted to go on record here as stating that, by your ending wrap up, what a significantly informative, wonderfully tributary and all around stellar Disneyland historical document you achieved with this particular video! Hats off to you! Though I'm not at all certain where you got your facts from or even what (imaginary) gossip you had heard about the large number of disrespectful teenagers who were constantly in attendance at the park and terrorizing other guests around Tomorrowland back in the mid 1990's, as this was NEVER the case and I've yet to see another guest who's behavior or appearance was anything even remotely approaching that of sufficiently imposing, let alone threatening in any way, the park's security is simple much too tight to tolerate anything like that and they would never ever allow a person who seemed that way to ever even enter the park at all. They would turn them away at the front gate and cite them for something along the lines of, the are welcome to come back to Disneyland when they are dressed in inappropriate clothing, devoid of any gang affiliation, profanity, sexually explicit content or any t-shirts containing drug references. Good work otherwise, you really did pack a considerable amount of information into this onem good work mate. This video was happily enough posted on my birthday!

Actually, the redevelopment of Tomorrowland was already underway when Walt Disney passed away. Walt Disney saw a prototype of the Peoplemover at Arrow Development. The new layout had already been approved before his passing. The initial design for Space Mountain was drawn by John Hench in 1964. The reconstruction of Tomorrowland was not a move of desperation but a project that was the personal dream of Walt Disney and was already approved before his death.

In the 60s and 70s it was great to grow up under the traditional Disney studios (Walt Disney Productions). I remember when the movies were directed by Robert Stevenson, Norman Tokar ,Vincent McEveety and produced by Bill Walsh, Bill Anderson, Winston Hibler and Ron Miller (who sadly just passed away) Those men were trained by Walt to make the films under his supervision. Unfortunately there was no training program. The first film released under Michael Eisner was the R rated Down and out in Beverly Hills.( I can feel the Disney magic!) The animation department was saved by Roy Disney. Eisner wanted to shut it down. After Roy's death 2D animation died. Remember when The Disney Channel was like TCM and had no commercials. EPCOT (though not what Walt had in mind) was still inspiring. Remember World of Motion, Universe of Energy (before Ellen), The original Journey into Imagination and especially horizons. Disney doesn't believe in the words If it's not broke, don't fix it! they could have added on to and improved these attractions instead of destroying and dumbing down the park. Walt Disney's real city could have been added to the back of the park with monorails and people movers. It's too late now! Now Disneyland and Walt Disney World cater to the sjw crowd. I remember when The Hall of Presidents was about the Constitution with a prophetic speech by Abraham Lincoln, Pirates chased women and held wench auctions, Hippos were given a warning shot on the Jungle cruise. There was even a topless mermaid in Peter Pan's Flight! Today you almost have to be a millionaire to enter the Magic Kingdom. Everyday of the year the parks are way overcrowded. I'm glad I was a kid when I was. Disney of today has gotten like everything else in the world, greedy and very depressing. Roy Disney was right. Disney has become a soulless company.

I'm not giving up. Disney will regain its soul and will be made great again. Disney will be taken over by a new management who will drive the SJW crowd away forever and hopefully enrage them to the point that they start a national movement to boycott Disney products. I will admit though Eisner wasn't all that bad.

Put in interactive things like what's at the San Francisco Maker Faire, the Exploratorium, both with hands on opportunities for kids to play with and learn about new toys and inventions. Maybe throw in a little Epcot attractions and it would work.

Tron takes a huge footprint, which Disneyland Tomorrowland doesn't have without putting in a seriously large building right in the middle of Tomorrowland. I do think the answer to Tomorrowland is to go vertical to make the illusion of the urban sprawl, that would be one way to squeeze Tron into it, but I wonder how it'll all look from other ends of the park.

It has been a mess since 1998. Even the other Tomorrowlands; even Discoveryland, are better than the one in Disneyland at this rate. While it unfortunate they are no longer willing to take risks with non-IP based rides; they still need to take their time with the planning of trying to undo some of the damage to that specific area in Disneyland.

Tomorrowland really should represent space exploration. Not like Star Wars or anything. It should be about lunar colonies, Mars colonization, what the Voyager space probes might come across. Space travel as a commercial passenger means to get to and from said colonies. What Earth COULD be like if we manage to reverse the damage caused. That means bringing back a people mover of sorts that is self driving. Get rid of the monorail, turn it into the actual pod people mover self driving taxi without any guide track, that can get you to/from Tomorrowland, to other places within the park, including Star Wars. Misson to Mars in a different form could be a good addition again. Coloring of Tomorrowland should be green and blue earth tones when entering, representing Earth tomorrow, and then the more silver, dark blues, purples, that represent the space travel with rides that reflect that, and finally reds and browns and oranges that represent MARS colonization deep within Tomorrowland, perhaps even building a crater or a miniature forced perspective Olympus Mons volcano.

@ReviewTyme
@ReviewTyme 4 жыл бұрын
Both Test Track and Rocket Rods opened in the same year so may have shared some of the development between each other at Imagineering. Problem is Rocket Rods destroyed the track meaning to completely remove it from the land they would have to close off huge portions of the land, making massive bottlenecks. It's a shame but I don't think we will see anything coming to those tracks again anytime soon. - Luke

What would Walt do? I'll tell you what Walt would do. He'd not close down popular attractions to capitalize on the latest IP, he'd not buy up as much IP as possible to become a monopoly, he'd keep animated movies 2D, he'd not change Pirates to satisfy a tiny minority of feminists crying foul about wenches being auctioned and chased by pirates, he'd not keep Song of the South locked away, he'd build attractions with an original theme that isn't tied to some IP, he'd never allow Fastpass of any kind and make everyone stand in one queue for attractions, and he'd not raise ticket prices into the stratosphere.

Galaxy's edge just looks like a big space themed gift shop cash grab, and shows little true Disney originality, the entire thing recycled from George Lucas and his relatively unimaginative and unbelievable concepts (Light sabres? Give me a break, swords fell out of favor for a reason when more modern technologies came about). The new "land" even seems to recognize you have to be drunk to appreciate it. I remember a couple of decades ago at the park going to the gallery above Pirates and seeing a scale model of a proposed "Discoveryland" upgrade of Tomorrowland and the Rivers of America-- it was that total Jules Verne steampunk look, and looked awesome. Even then though, it wasn't there as a current proposed design, but a past one that was abandoned, tantalizing in its vision but immensely disappointing in their ultimate treatment of it. And the "new Tommorowland" paint job underscored how little Disney at that time, cared about spending anything but a minimal amount to support any real imaginative enhancements, even taking out the old favorite "Inner Space" ride. Indiana Jones showed that vision was still possible, and that was seen as a big success by me and my Disney-fan friends, but Toontown was underwhelming, though a little less of a joke than Bear Country was. It's a shame that Disneyland no longer has the sort of vision that Walt had. The Submarine retrofit with its Finding Nemo paint-job was another underwhelming effort and terribly disappointing, except for the fact it at least meant they weren't going to cannibalize the area and remove the subs entirely. The idea of a Jules-Verne based ride with subs that looked like the 20,000 Leagues original design, where they could have added a stop in the middle where you get out in a simulated Atlantis, or at least see an underwater exposition of such a world, could have been awesome, but instead we got California Adventure, which I've never even bothered to visit. As a local, I saw no need for a re-hash of real California sights that I'm already quite familiar with, thank you very much. A real shame, what's happened to the park.

I am pretty sure the date is just a rumor. We also don't know how much will actually be demolished; though the old PM platform is the most likely to go and possibly at least a section of Tomorrowland Autopia (it used to be smaller in 1955 and stayed that way until the 2000s). If they are going to gut out the entirety of Autopia; at least relocate it to Cars Land. Never the less, the lagoon itself deserves to stay as taking it away will take away some visual appeal from that spot. However it will be EXTREMELY difficult to bring back the subs (which at this rate is one of a kind at Disney parks) at Disneyland or create them at a new park if Disney ever changes it mind no thanks to OSHA.

The land has lost all its dynamic motion. You used to be able to see the rockets spinning with the people mover circling around the base, the monorail off in the distance and the skyway coming down into the station, and the Innoventions building spinning. It really felt like the future was on the move. Now everything feels dormant. A big step would be putting the rockets back on top of the old people mover station. They were the center of the land. Now they just clog its entrance

It could have been a great historical video but you totally ruined it! What I find unimaginable is with all this incredible technology WHY do KZbinrs put up videos with stretched aspect ratios? It was filmed in 4:3 so leave it that way! A little software tweak is all it takes to fix it.

Tomorrow land and Toon town need to go , come on Disney for the price you charge to get in the park I’m sure there’s money somewhere to invest in renovating these two very sorry outdated theme areas of the park 🤔

I agree on Toon Town. However it would suck to lose Tomorrowland. Especially after giving Space Mountain back its glorious white color scheme.
@coherentpanda7115

Toon Town is getting Mickey's Runaway Railway, so there is at least hope they will be reinvesting in that area of the park. They definitely have a plan up their sleeves for their next major project after Star Wars Land is complete. Tomorrowland is the most likely candidate for a huge makeover, as Star Tours will become obsolete and out of place, and they need something big in a couple years after the initial Star Wars excitement starts to wear off.

Like the Westcot second Disneyland gate that never happened in the 1990s - truly disappointed Tomorrowland 2055 was not realized. Worse, seeing Tomorrowland’s current 2019 state amplifies what an amazing missed opportunity this was.
