My parents lived there in one of the houses you went in. House no. 8 with all the medals and motor bike helmet you found in the loft. My dad was a pilot and was and still a worker for the cullham science centre of fusion. The house came with his job and part of a work scheme. He owned his own jolly jodel aircraft. Also we were not alcoholic people. My mum is French and we kept our wines from France and created our own little cellar. I grew up there as a baby in that house until I reached the age of 4. The government had evicted everyone out of their homes to build a hotel. But as you can see it never happened. Everyone forced to find another home. I only remember bits and pieces of what my parents told me. It breaks all our hearts to find our home like this.

Thank you very much for the comment, apologies if we disrespected you and your family in anyway. It's cool to hear a first hand account of actually living there! It must have been a unique place. I'm still unsure as to the future of the site either. Thanks again

Bless you tiffanycox. Thank you for your story. It is so wrong that you and other families were made to leave your home. Anyone who has had a similar experience will feel it. It happened to me too. You never forget. The lads would never intentionally disrespect you or anyone else, on their explorations. All things move on. Its hard but thank you again for sharing.

Takes me back down memory lane guys. I used to be employed as a radiological health surveyor at this establishment over a period of 10 years. Camaraderie was good and the pay and conditions better - where have those times gone. Love all your explores - keep safe and where possible always wear PPE if in doubt.

I have been looking at these for years. They could all be upgraded and were lived in until about 20 years ago. The site was a second world war airbase that was subsequently used for atomic research. The houses were lived in by officers and senior scientists/researchers. I'm guessing they date from the 30s/40s and contain things like asbestos lagging/insulation. The site was guarded by its own police force - you wouldn't have got in, a few years ago. Much of the site is still inhabited. It's still a place of research but the reactors have been decommissioned.

And as a kid 70s 80s we drove by & back every weekend to visit family b4 A34. Never checked this out myself although wanted to, Scouted another place last night 8 miles away, but a no go. 😢 got another place to scout this week...hoping for better luck

What an incredible insight into a little community on a famous airbase! Those houses are lovely and should be protected!!! Amazing that so many treasures still remain inside the houses and also to note how well built they are. Would be nice to think the developers could preserve this special road 🤞 Great filming Alex - thank you 👍👍

Absolutely loving your videos and your commentary, and your accent. I think I’m Ed’s biggest fan in Australia, just love him, his enthusiasm and sense of humour. PS: I find it amusing how you say garage, like garge, without pronouncing the second a. Cracks me up every time. Can’t wait to watch the latest video. 👍🏻

Those houses were built in the early 1940s for senior RAF officers such as Squadron Leaders and Wing Commanders. In 1946 the site was taken over by the Atomic Energy Authority and the houses used by senior scientists and Division Heads of the different non-nuclear divisions. Not everything carried out on the site was concerned with nuclear science. There was, and still is, much research involving metallurgy, chemistry, medical, electronics etc on the site by both the AEA and commercial enterprise. I worked on the site from 1966 to 1973 and my duties took me into dozens of the buildings, some of which were low radiation areas.

I used to be in the WRAF & was unfortunately also married to someone in the forces..our married quarters wasn’t as big,but had endless space..we started out with ‘forces issued’ furniture, which I thought at the time was hideous..but looking back,it was fab..we also weren’t allowed to decorate, our quarters were ‘magnolia’ all the way thru..!! Loved the ‘Dads Army’ theme tune too..lol..Ed’ for Eurovision..lol xx❤

I remember when bedrooms always had wash hand basins in them but I never understood why. When I was a child, before bed, I'd have a bath, leave the bathroom where there was a perfectly good sink and go to my bedroom and wash my face and clean my teeth........why?😅 Great job, chaps. Keep up the good work.

The military over the years sure have wasted home dwellings being abandoned and falling apart when they could have sold them on. We lived in a military house in the 70s and it had gaudy colours lol so doesn't suprise me seeing green and yellow. They were beautiful houses for sure. Have to laugh at Ed with his comedy acts and lines. Cheers Alex Ned and Ed xx

The houses are definitely Officers married quarters from when it was an RAF station. Can still be seen on many active military airfields. Such a waste that these buildings aren’t maintained, great quality houses.
