I lived in this area as a child (near Lyndell), when what is now the lake was a big valley. We left in 1967, over fifty years ago, and I've never been back.

Would have LOVED to have sren it then--I moved to Chester Co.

in 74, so the Lake was already full. However, the park was not opened yet, and so I could ride my horse anywhere around the lake...and did. Was able to find some lovely old ruins--one FULL of violets--that are now townhouses or trophy homes....breaks my heart, but glad I got to enjoy ehat I did. Wonderful memories.

My Dad was from West Chester, then moved to Elverson. He always told the story that, before the area was flooded, he explored the McClure mansion. He located the bar, and was sure he remembered a trap door which led to a “speakeasy room”. I always enjoyed hearing that story as a kid.

Thanks! Lived and rode in Marsh Creek for 35 yrs., but never saw or even heard about these ruins. Found this while checking out places written about in Down the Eastern and up the Black Brandywine..Your video helped satisfy a lot of my curiousity!

If you're heading from Milford towards Shoreline, it's on the left before Shoreline. Not far off the road.

Liz Stanaitis is correct. It will be hard to see from the road with the growth of summer. Probably best to go in late fall or a warmer winter day when everything is not so overgrown.

There are maps of the trails but they don't show you where the ruins are. You might be able find a helpful experienced ranger who can show you where the ruins are in the map.
