At last, a rebuild that works in the real world, torque setting 'FT' usually works. We don't all have the luxury of a fully equipped workshop, with all the correct specs to hand. Keep up the good work guys. PS, the swearing shows its real. Love it!! PS, mackling = cobbling, slinging or bodging together to make something work or happen!

Wondering if y’all took a center punch and staked the brake band bolts on the nut side after he trimmed them? I’ve seen that same type of brake band have the bolts work loose on a lattice boom 250 ton crane that was used for cycle duty work,basically dredging with a clam bucket on the Ohio river. It did NOT turn out well. The expansion from the brakes being heated up and the vibration from two Cummins diesels running against the governors shook the bolts loose with about 300 feet of cable on two drums got really loud and ugly with a shitload of sparks and cable flying. Not sure how much your tracked history lesson weighs but I am sure that none of you guys want brakes taking a dump on your machine while it’s tracking down a hill or slope. Also torque rates for grade 8 coarse bolts is 3/8=43.6 ft.lbs 59.3 Nm 7/16 =69.8 ft.lbs 94.6 Nm 1/2=106 ft.lbs 144 Nm Fine thread bolts 3/8=49.4 ft.lbs 67 Nm. 7/16=77.9ft.lbs 106 Nm. 1/2=120ft.lbs 163Nm. all those specs were listed as used on dry bolts. Using oil or Anti-seize for the same clamping force has a multiplier to go with those dry numbers. If y’all need the specs or different stuff for metric sizes just let me knowI’ve got nothing but time since a 5000lb pipe was dropped on me in 2017 and I sure as hell miss running and working on the old heavy equipment. BTW,you fellas are doing a kickass job on your channel,keep it up. 👍

I thought snap on tools were for the bedroom? The correct torque for those bolts are tighten until you feel it start to strip the threads, then back a quarter of a turn

I'm no snow flake but watch your eyes when you smack sht or grind, had metal in my lip and hand from using drifts on pins on heavy plant, luckily it went in my lip not my eye and bits of a grinding disc picked out my eye. It's no fun. It's your shop so do what you want but I didn't used to give a sht till it went wrong.
@andrewbrown6705 Жыл бұрын
Yes i agree , i had a 9 inch grinding disc explode and it hit me hard right in the nuts, man did it hurt, was very lucky it didnt do permanent damage. definitely dont want to do it again.

Not being funny but what sort of rebuild is that, when you have not even taken out the springs and cleaned and oiled them very lightly and more importantly cleaned out the pockets and lightly oiled the inside so that the springs will move progressively without any hang ups? That clutch pack in its present state would likely as not be very grabby as the springs could well hang up in the pockets with the amount of crap inside them another day spent wire brushing and wiping over with a lightly oiled rag would have been a better thing to have done. WD 40 isn't the best thing since sliced bread!
