Being an American ABBA fan since about 1980, I have always said that ABBA is (at least from the U.S. perspective) is the most underrated band of the 20th century. I am thrilled that they are back and have listened to the new songs over and over and over. They are my heart.

@@viderethevaccinatorfromhol7536 I agree with you 100%!! Sadly in the US, ABBA has long been laughed off as a one-hit wonder (Dancing Queen, of course)... and their amazing catalog and international success largely ignored. I am so glad to see a recent rediscovery by American audiences and recognition of their musical genius and talent. Abba's music gives many people, especially now in these times, the feeling of warmth, of being emotionally "hugged" and the hope that maybe everything will be fine in the end. I have loved ABBA since 1976, when their song "Fernando" was selected as "Song Of The Year" for that year in Portugal, which is very unusual, because that particular distinction is always awarded to national (Portuguese) artists. One of the reasons is that the name (Fernando) is very common in this Iberian Peninsula country. I can attest to this fact, as I know many "Fernandos".......friends, family, neighbors and even coworkers. And, add to that "familiar" name to stunning vocals, harmonies and melody, (Frida's lead, and Agnetha's supporting), and absolutely heavenly instrumentation and arrangement, and you have a phenomenal success in my native country. ♫♫♫♪♪♪♪♪♪♪♥

Whilst I totally understand how some people may have lost their love for Abba, I was really impressed that they had the courage to actually come back after 40 years, but more to the point I thought both songs were great, with a message we can learn from about having faith and belief in ourselves regardless of our age or anything. God knows they have not come back due to lack of money, but rather their passion to sing, and the fact that they still can. They sound as good if not better than before. Good on them I say. I have always said, "If you don't like Abba, then you don't like music" Abba pretty much perfected the quality pop song.. they made music accessible to all without diluting it to the lowest common denominator.. If you want a simple hook you can hum while doing the washing up or you want musical arrangements that come from the masters of Bach, Beethoven and Mozart then Abba delivers all of that and more.. I still remain on the fence about the "comeback" I hope that the songmanship is still there and it's not just some cynical cash grab..

What fills my heart with happiness is that the comeback will expose so many young people to their masterful music which ABBA utterly deserve. I saw a video of Benny saying the ''maybe'' there will be a comeback a few yrs ago. I thought then maybe but knowing they are reserved people and privacy is important to them maybe not. I later learned that the comeback was supposed to happen around 2019 but covid messed all that up. Knowing it's happening is incredible to me. I can't bare the wait for an entire album. I did cry when I heard their new songs. I also describe beautiful melodies with the mental pictures that appear in my mind like meadows and sunshine. Abba and The Beatles just trigger these emotions in me so often. How can they not. ABBA are also wonderful story tellers, sometimes with happy things in life but also with extremely painful situations like divorce and the pain caused by indifference from you lover. Their lyrics make their song so 'real' they make you remember that ABBA also went through these experience and that we are them and they are us. It's the human connection that compels you to listen.

Ofc you should do breakdowns, explanations on why it hits ppl's heart and souls etc. You love it so cherish it and show/educate us bring along memories to make it more personal and storytelling just like they do. I think it's a great idea VG! ABBA is magic for the soul and ears.

Do they really rank with classical composers? Yes, you are correct! In 200 years, if the world survives, people will still know about and listen to ABBA. They will be considered "classical" in the future. Don't worry about the tears mate. Their songs can stir emotions as many are related to life's struggles and events. When I knew my marriage was coming to an end, I printed up the lyrics from their song, "When All Is Said And Done" and gave it to my then wife. She understood, as we both could feel the "Autumn Chill." My funeral song.. Super Trouper. I want it up beat, and my last message to my friends and family is to not feel blue and to go on, "shining like the sun, smiling having fun".

Looking forward to watching all your reviews on ABBA.. Really like all their albums my favourite two are The Visitors and The Album and there's one track which I find so difficult to listen to is My Love My Life from Arrival. Very very powerful track filled with emotion..💔

@paul adamson, the orchestration on My Love, My Life is just out of this world. Of course it helps that the composition is so impossibly rich.

In my most humble opinion, it is a great idea that they came back, and with a brand new studio album, and I will absolutely buy their album "Voyage", on the 5th November.....and as soon as the record store opens, I will be there..........................but......................I would not attend their "Abbatar" concert. It would have to be them "in the flesh". But I wish Benny, Björn, Agnetha and Frida, all the love and all the best with this new endeavour. They are much appreciated and much loved throughout the world, because they have brought so much joy and beauty through their music.

I learnt about it the other day on twitter and could not believe it. It's refreshing to see their comeback after so many great stars left us in these past few years. The 2 new songs are very nice, and typical Abba. Fitting lyrics for a comeback. The Winner Takes It All breaks me every time. Don't apologise for having a soul and good taste ;)

They played and recorded the whole 22 song concert for over five weeks and then the ABBATARS are taking over for the live shows with a 10 piece live band. Its going to be awesome . . .

Why the Avitars? We can accept them as older people, do they think that their ages make any difference? They are still ABBA…

I don't have anything against that, as long as every single song is a masterpiece, which I'm sure they're still capable of doing. I personally wish they made something gloomy, sounding like my all-time favorite ABBA song "The Day Before You Came"... ✌️😎

Yes! That song is sort of on the edge of ABBA’s canon, but brilliant! I also really liked the cover by Blancmange. 👍 👍

Wait and see,I don’t think all new songs has the same sound,Abba surprised with every new Album
@IdeologieUK3 жыл бұрын
@@Urfinchannel Thinking about this a day later, yes, agreed! Besides, they’re Abba - they get a pass to do anything and they wouldn’t release anything that isn’t great. I just don’t think they’ll top their former greatness, but either way to them I say, “Thank you for the music!”

Personally I don’t care what they make. As long as they remain true to themselves. And I can’t think of a greater proof of being true to oneself than waiting for 40 years till the moment was right. The best decision they’ve made so far is not trying to “experiment” or “modernize” their sound. Benny and Björn have produced this two songs with exactly the same style and ambition than in the 70s. Why to fix what’s not broken? Perfect comeback. The new album will not disappoint because their bar is so high that even their lesser songs are remarkable.

God, I remember being a kid and hearing Dancing Queen for the first time blasting at our apartment swimming pool. Sunshine, splashing water, a can of Shasta Orange and Abba - nirvana it was. These two new songs from the upcoming album are just beautiful brilliance. To me, the songs capture the essence of Abba. I do feel that the new music sounds a bit more Broadway showstopper than pop, but the songs are simply perfect music.

Of course it is a good idea- as long as they wanna do it. About the tears; ABBA's songs have a habit of going straight to my heart without passing the brain. And the Swedish melancholy* plays a role too. *born out of long dark, cold winters temporarily interrupted by short summers.

The world has watied 4 years for this comeback, and I certainly hope they hang around longer than a 10 song album.

When growing up in Sweden they had no American influences in music as the radio stations there only played Swedish and European music. Swedish "Folk Music" was very popular. This is why their take on POP/ROCK is so different from any other band(s) in the world. Benny listened to classical music a lot which is incorporated into their music.

I'm not an ABBA fan (I have no soul) but I think the comeback is a good idea. So many people will be excited about it and although the new songs are probably not some of their best, new material for fans is always welcome. The Beatles produced Free as a Bird and Real Love a few years back and while they are not as good as Penny Lane etc they are both nice songs and I'm pleased to have them. Similarly, Japan reformed as Rain Tree Crow and that album is pure genius. China Crisis released a new album in 2018 which was perhaps better than their original stuff. Even if they weren't I think fans always would rather have new material than not. Thank goodness for artists such as Gary Numan that never stop creating.

Great vid V. Loved it. Esp your passion when talking about the way the songs resonate with you. My one hesitancy re the “comeback” is the attempt to ‘place’ them back in a certain time with modern VR. I think they should embrace their respective ages and celebrate their longevity instead of trying to deny it. Other than that it’ll be great to hear those lush harmonies and beautiful chord progressions

Loved your vlog on ABBA comeback. At the young age of 13 I was totally hooked on them from their hit SOS, and been an avid fan ever since. I unexpectedly burst into tears of joy watching the new song video for "I Still Have Faith In You" . Wow, a 40 year wish come true with a full new album, VOYAGE. A much needed cheery bright spot on these stressful pandemic last two years. Thanks you ABBA ! ...a shout out from Arkansas, USA

Metalhead here, and a guitarist, but ABBA was the soundtrack to my childhood. In the past year and a half of all this dark and gloomy world, this news of ABBA's comeback is the best thing happening now.

I think what you say half-way in is absolutely right, Benny is a composer with Swedish folk muscis heritage. It is the morning light, the midsummer pole, the sunset, the stars and everything in between. The greatness, I now understand, is that they can make you feel happy, sad and want to dance at the same time.

Hearing the new songs was an emotional experience for me as well. I did not expect it to be that way. It is far beyond the familiar excitement that one feels when a favorite group has a new record or makes a comeback.
