John Vansice: Jodi told family Vansice made her uncomfortable. He insinuated himself into her personal life, made grand gestures, and seemed to want more than friendship. He was the last to see her, showed up at the crime scene, referred to her in past tense, named his boat after her... An obsessed fan is one thing, but an obsessed person who knows you, who has access to you, is FAR more dangerous.

TOE TAG SMITH Lol! Oh, sure, “THAT” guy. I hadn’t heard that in this case. The guy, who happens to be black, who always seems to be around in every city with a cold case, who always gets the blame when lose ends can’t be tied. My “lol” is to your response and not to the premise as this actually happens far too often.

Salpsan People ignore instincts all the time, particularly younger women. We’re told, “You’re being too sensitive, it’s all in you’re head, you’re being paranoid,...”. Think about someone throwing you a party (their choice), then filming it, then inviting you see the film that they “went to the trouble” to film of the party they “went to the trouble” to throw for you out of the “kindness of their heart”... It’s manipulative. People with personality disorders often manipulate people in this way. Narcissists never do something nice for someone unless they benefit in some way, and they can make people feel a sense of obligation. People don’t want to be rude and that can override their instincts.

The way he appeared in interviews does not have the bearing of a man who is entirely bereft of someone he seemed to hold in such a ridiculously high esteem, especially when it's unrequited. His demeanor seems to be that he's not that sad because he knows what happened to her.

Sorry, but the narratives from such programmes give me a feeling that Americans don't do jackshit beyond calling 911... As for being a man from a so called third world country (India), at least I'm out with a barbell even before the police arrive... I don't own a gun and my kitchen knives are, well, only good enough for the kitchen...

If you're going to be nosy at least call police. Where I grew up shouting was often followed by a gunshot. Even if it turns out to be nothing or the cops can't find the disturbance at least there's a record of it for future calls. You never know if that 1 call saves a life. People call ten cops for truly stupid reasons. They know how quickly domestics can get out of control. Plus no LEO wants all that extra paperwork.

The fact that she “over slept” for work seems important. I think she was likely distraught which caused her to over sleep. Last month I heard horrible screaming at 3 am. I immediately called the non emergency line to report it just in case. Not sure if anything ever came of it but I still felt it was important to do. I've done the same thing after hearing someone empty an entire clip from a gun. I try to never be the passive bystander because I watch so much true crime, and it seems too common for people to do nothing when something is suspicious.

A female name like Joan could work, too. You can picture a woman of this name that Jodi knew, accompanying the kidnapper, for instance. In this case, the crime might be motivated by an extorsion of some sort, maybe information... Instead of sexual gratification. She was a local journalist after all, maybe she was unto something big, which would also explain the baffling immobilism of justice when it comes to her case. It's low probability, but heh, the witness just heard the scene. He had no other context around it.
@nozoto

@Lon Hixson Then again, individually, we have different prosody, so pronunciation of the same word or name may slightly differ from one person to another (things like regional accents are parameters to take into account, for instance) Besides the neighbor simply overheard it, so a misunderstanding may add up. It can factually be any of the names we have mentioned in the thread, unfortunately... Makes for a poor hint.
