well that depends on what press - you will see plenty of lies if you watch Fox News or it's wannabees, but if you use media that is driven by journalistic values and the search for truth, you will get balanced coverage based on actual facts. There is also the 'both sides' issue on news programs where they attempt to show 'balance' by having one person from each side of the argument - I think that's a huge problem when the majority of experts and the population are on one side (as they are in every country on abortion). For example, it has emerged that when the UK was debating Brexit, the people commissioning BBC news could 'get multiple top 10 economic experts' in 20 minutes to speak about why it would be a disaster, whereas it could take them 3 days to track down a single, much less qualified and credible, economist to speculate there was anything positive about leaving the EU. So the viewer saw 2 experts with opposing views - I wonder if the result would have been different if they'd had, say the 99 top experts arguing against it and only 1 for? Spoiler alert - Brexit's a disaster, the experts was right and every single person in this country is suffering financially because of it (well except for the small number of rich people who made a fortune on our currency dived).

Following abortion ban logic there should no longer be shortages of organ donations anymore in places where abortions were banned, since they have established that a ''person'' may have rights over the body of another person if it means saving their own life. This including disregarding any risks to the other person. Guess pro-life advocates should not have any problems with being forced to donate a kidney or part of a lung or intestine if it means saving the life of another person!

I hate that medication is so politicized. I have had chronic intractable pain for 25 years and am on meds but even my doctor says it’s not enough but our govt doesn’t let them prescribe more long term. I completely understand there risks of opiates but so many people have committed suicide due to not having adequate pain relief from their doctor. It’s also pushing people to the streets which is dangerous. I hate that our well being is used as a bargaining tool for politicians.

As a fellow sufferer of chronic pain, I feel you. I asked my doc once if I could get just 4 a month for the really bad days, he looked at me and said "well there's a risk for addiction" I just stared at him. I said " how am I going to get addicted, when I'm only allowed 4 rinky dink pain pills a month? I have to take them every day and even then that doesn't mean I'll be mentally addicted, just physically. Like with a lot of medication, I'm physically addicted to my heartburn meds because if i stop cold turkey, it'll come back worse than before. But that doesnt mean I shouldn't take it, my heartburn affects my quality of life. You know, and you know I know, it's b.s" After a year of appointments, tears and passing out from pain my ob gave me 10 percocet 5's as a 10 month supply and told me to make it last lol I tried my best but they only lasted about 5. I have endometriosis for reference, as well as fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease, lumbar stenosis and numerous other back issues, the list goes on. It feels like a cruel joke. I feel bad for the doctors that want to help but don't because they're afraid of the DEA, who should have zero say, even if it's a completely valid reason. Like to prevent a patient from passing out multiple times. Ffs every day is a struggle, suicide crosses my mind because my future looks grim, you can't give at least an occasional respite? I often feel like my dogs get better treatment at the vet than I do at the doctors. The shenanigans the DEA pulls makes me so angry especially since they claim it’s to help the drug epidemic. Little do they know, not giving people relief from chronic pain doesn’t help anything and I’d even argue that it makes the illicit drug issue worse. They really don't care at all. I live in one of the *bad* states when it comes to abortion, and I just had my annual visit last week. The intake nurse asked me about my "d&c" in my record. I was blown away, because literally nobody has asked about that before. I had a pelvic/abdominal surgery pre roe v. Wade being overturned, and something they did during that surgery was classified as a d&c. I had massive amounts of scar tissue removed from the entire area. But I had to sit there and explain the "circumstances" around the "d&c". The surgery and the results should already be in my chart, so it really just made me feel icky and like my state is tracking anything that could be an abortion, even before the law was overturned.

Honestly the state of how these medications and abortions and D&Cs are being viewed right now in this country is scary to me. I live in AR and had to go through three months of ultrasounds and two rounds of that medication prior to even having a D&C offered(at my insistance) because they wanted to give my body "more time"

This is really scary. Like you say, there are other uses for these drugs too. I had rpoc after the safe delivery of my baby and the drugs that were used to prep me for removal of the retained placenta fragments are also used in abortions. If all these drugs get banned what happens when you have complications relating to birth? Are they just expecting women to live (or die) with the consequences? Luckily, I'm from the UK, so this doesn't impact me personally. But it worries me, because stupidity is contagious.

Agreed - if they want to prevent doctors from providing standard care to save lives then where does it end? Do they simply believe that whether that woman lives or dies is 'God's will' and that humans shouldn't intervene at all? I would like to make those religious extremists who don't believe in science give up everything in their lives that is based on science - all modern medicine, all technology, all non-human powered means of transport, all processed food.....somehow I don't think they'd be happy with that?

Too many (mostly men based) organizations who wouldn't know about women if their life depended on it, have involved themselves in this issue. FYI - Plan B is available in Austin at some CVS pharmacies, as is Juli, but both are priced high enough that the younger folks who are more likely to need it will have a hard time paying for it ($50). I do know someone near has used a Plan B, as I live near a high school and found the discarded package on the sidewalk near where a number of students park. I can only hope that correct information remains available for those that needed it.

As a Brit, I don't even know what a circuit is! Surely the problem is that it is going to Scotus, one which already struck down Roe v Wade, despite all the GOP judges saying they wouldn't in their confirmation hearings. In that ruling, they cited English law from witch burners from centuries before the US even existed, so they are clearly not basing their decisions on the US constitution or laws, and some of them have made it clear they want to make contraception and gay marriage illegal too. So they are (as the lower circuit Trump judge did at the start) following their religious beliefs, not the law they are supposed to uphold. If a highly funded extremist group can pick a single judge from anywhere in the country to guarantee a ruling in their favour, you don't have a functioning legal system any more...

While it's clear from some of the quotes I've seen from state level politicians (like, if a woman is really raped her body knows and won't get pregnant, or that the doctors should re-implant an ectopic pregnancy in the uterus) that they are truly ignorant, I think the leaders know exactly what they are doing: cynically using women's health and lives to manipulate an ignorant population in order to get power.

Supreme Court precedence neutralized these aspects (eventually), but the law is still on the books. It was never repealed. I'm sure he wants this kicked up to the Supreme Court so the law can be brought back into full effect by overturning more precedence. There are decades of practical use in the US and other countries that prove it to be safe. What does it matter anymore how FDA approved it? In anyway why should courts have anyway second guessing such an approval and how could those suing have standing. You cannot sue just because you do not like something. The law has to harm you. In Finland that it to my knowledge for hospital use only - which is good as it is not cheap and you do not pay for drugs used in hospitals.
@tearainey1
@tearainey1 Жыл бұрын
In America people can sue for anything they want to. It doesn't mean they'll win, or that they'll escape unscathed financially, but usually it rarely holds legal consequence for them. That's where the term 'Frivolous Lawsuit" came from. There are many cases of people suing just because they didn't like something (some very high profile cases even concerned religious nuts suing gays because they didn't want to have to serve them in their business). Unfortunately with a system so heavily rigged in favor of money, justices will oversee any case that comes to their desk. Only the morally upstanding ones will toss such frivolous suits and tell the people to knock off their ridiculous behavior. In this case the fringe group knew which judge to target to have their grievances heard. They knew that politically the judge would side with them, and that if they could game the system hard enough they could actually succeed in banning the drug. I've heard that some states are trying to ban it on a state wide level now as well, a result of these extremists pushing their foul agenda and getting away with it. They'd gladly watch the masses suffer just to uphold their minority religious bullsh-t agenda, and unfortunately they have the money to do it. They've also been funding putting their own brand of doctors through medical school, and have even been found to be funding their own judges and lawyers in hopes to get them installed in key regions to continue pushing their fringe agenda. And somehow... It's completely legal and they're making progress.

If the system was about actual justice, then the existence of religiously biased judges would be quite impossible, even in states that are overflowing with people who are all about resentment and discrimination. I mean their political voting system is also all about the show and not actual representation of the people, so ..... on the contrary! I recall listening to someone discuss how, in the case of that drug, the tests they ran to ensure its safety were ran on people who genuinely needed it. So they're focusing on intended use. But once you open it up to millions, you have so many other medications possibly interacting, health problems that may be causing an unknown adverse effect, etc. These side effects probably were never known about because their test pool wasn't large enough to encounter the large variety of people/health conditions/types of use. The disgust I can hear from your voice over the many non-scientific claims made, as well as direct falsehoods, is pretty much beyond the scale. I feel you empathically, despite being male, thus not being DIRECTLY affected by it. But I completely support women's rights to all medical treatments they require. I think it’s more aspirin and ibuprofen which are contraindicated with Pepto as it contains a type of aspirin itself so there is a risk of bleeding. It is not readily available in Europe, the bismuth element is considered harmful. I thought it was well known not to double dip with flu meds, even with OTC we get warnings on our packaging and the pharmacist always flags it if you ask for the slightly stronger flu remedies.

If places like Texas cared about fetuses and life, they wouldn't have prevented a mom in labor from leaving work causing her to give birth to a stillborn, per her doctor.

Agreed. Never understood why these greedy power tripped people are so bent on ruining people’s lives regardless of wealth, ability and health, especially towards women and female children. This does a disservice to not just them but also to future children. I’d much rather have a world where women can choose when to get pregnant and with whom in regards to their health regardless of wealth.

I’m in the US and am wondering if induced labor used to birth a deceased child, is labeled “an abortion” through medical language. Are miscarriages using the term “spontaneous abortion” added to statistics of the total number of abortions? I sometimes wonder if statistics are skewed, due to a misunderstanding of terms, possibly giving fodder to inflame sentiment

I'm in the UK so I don't know for sure, but I do know that since Roe v Wade was reversed, there have been mulitple women in the situation where the doctors know that the pregnancy is not viable, they will never give birth to a live, healthy baby, but because a heart beat can still be detected, they cannot legally do anything about it. This forces women to go through what can only be defined as torture, waiting for their baby to die inside them, fearing sepsis that might prevent them having another baby or even killing them. I can't believe these extreme christians think this level of cruelty is 'what Jesus would do'

I can't image a world view where he thinks 'people' would say that - the people who agree with him already think that, and the majority of the human population will never think that - how many millions of women were spared abortions and unwanted pregnancies and their health and life complications because of it. If he and his group want to go back to pre-science, pre-modern medicine times when women weren't educated or allowed to work outside the home or had their own money, then they should just find a rural area and set up a commune, like other such groups do, not try and force their views on everyone else. I'd also like to know what their solution is to the problem of massive numbers of extra children born to people who don't want them is...

Here an idea if they want to prevent abortions instead of legisating to ban them why not offer financial support to single mothers or couples struggling. Its disingenuous because when life begins is objectively subjective. They equate a fetus without any neural activity or ability to feel to a person because that fetus isnt asking for anything. So if you want more ppl to see it your way offer financial support to new parents, free maternal health, support finding child care to empower those who would carry to term if they had the means. Adoptions aren't the answer, children who are adoption even at birth to loving homes have an increased risk suicide bc the maternal separation is felt. Offer love & compassion. Offer your support to help them with child care & community
@rachelsnee8926
@rachelsnee8926 Жыл бұрын
Legislating to ban abortions never decreases the number carried out - there are literally millions of data points on this from throughout history and all over the world. And although I agree that support for new parents e.g. maternity/paternity leave and pay, child support payments, free healthcare, free or low cost childcare should be available to all parents (here in Europe we've taken that for granted for over half a century), that is only going to tip the scales on the decision for people who want a child but can't afford it, particularly those who already have children (which I think is the majority of abortions in the US). But it's not an alternative to adoption for those who are victims of rape or incest, who don't wish to interrupt their studies or careers, who are in abusive relationships, who feel they are too young or too old to take on parenting a child, or who just don't ever want to have children. So abortion will always be needed, especially as no contraception method is 100% effective.
