The Absinthe Story: How the green fairy was hidden for 100 years

Still heavily controlled all over the world, Absinthe is a drink with many myths and many secrets. But why is Absinthe so seductive? Apart from its amazing taste, some of the key answers lie in its mystery. Did Van Gogh really cut its ear after drinking too much of it? Is it that hallucinogenic to a point that it becomes dangerous? And if not, why was it constitutionally forbidden for a century in the same place where it was born - in a small region of Switzerland, in Val-de-Travers, Jura?
And to pursue the investigation, what exactly makes Absinthe so special that people of this region were ready to go underground to carry on with the distillation of this mythical drink? You’ll discover it all in this video! We want to address special thanks to Nicolas Giger, the President of Association “Pays de l’Absinthe” who nowadays still leads some tours on “Road of Absinthe”, a path that travels through Switzerland and France, following the historical and mythical places of the Green Fairy.

After reading about it over the years I think the myths are the only reason it was prohibited. If others tried to copy cat it, and added other herbs to make theirs have the effects of the myths, it made their copy cat version cause the prohibition. Improper distillation can make poisonous alcohol and add to the myth. I've always wanted to try the true Absinthe, but read comments on different brands and their different flavors. I want to try the real true version, not a copy cat. Just as long as it doesn't make me chase girls with green hair, because I can't run fast anymore and I'd never be able to catch them, LOL

Soaking sageleaves in spirit will cause a stronger thujoneeffect! But then again as we all know, without the alcohol theres no buzz anyway. Absinthe is alcohol! And one guy here on the tube said that past absinthemakers used fermented molded grain to make alcohol..well, not the ones we know of today. Cheers!
