These itroductory guides are a blessing. Sometimes the overall complexity in the mecanics of fighting games makes me believe I'm doing everything wrong and that the game is not for me. Seeing you point out the block/throw/punch triangle was very enlightening.

I love fighting games, been hearing the words poke , anti-air etc but had no idea what the heck those really are. I have been quite clueless about this genre. This info should at least give me some objective for what to do if I fire up a fighting match. This is really helpful I need a beginner's guide like this for Dhalsim then. Since he seems to have some long ranged poke , anti-air , fireball , teleportation and throws.

I would love for you to explain combo routes, i am a long time tekken player but i never really got into street fighter. I have a huge problem figuring out what is a combo and what isn't. Im specifically taking about moved that should hit an opponent when it comes to hitbox and frame data, but they don't. it's never explained in a tutorial and never mentioned by any KZbinrs. Because they all have a fundamental understanding for those kinds of things. For example why can't Luke do 2 flash knuckles and add a ex flash knuckle at the end or why can't you hit airborne opponents with normal moves. If you are not used to this combo structure its frustrating to learn because nobody talks about it.

okay. I would like guides on Cammy, Ken and Luke. I would alos like more explination of stopping combos. Higher ranks seems to go straight through my blocks and their attacks just keep going despite blocking, grabbing or special moves. How to I interrupt these and stop attacks that get through block. Also how do I get through people's block. At lower level I have attacks that seem to cut through opponents but higher up its seems literally every attack I do is easily brushed aside with blocks.

I appreciate this video. Tried my hand again in the demo earlier today, and i *still* have a lot to learn in terms of conditioning myself for the right answers in the right situations-- and that's only for *Luke's* gameplay style thus far. My experience with fighting games mainly lies with Kya: Dark Lineage, MK: Shaolin Monks (only the singleplayer) and more recently, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. All of them are good games, and Kya especially i've enjoyed a lot. But the feel of Street Fighter is very different. Pushing the left analog stick up to jump instead of using a button is something i don't remember *ever* coming across before, I have a harder time memorizing all the moves, and the quarter analog stick spin inputs jammed my braingears-- for i've never seen inputs like *those* either. But still, i'm excited for the game and interested in playing it for myself. This is not in the least because of the "Your Story" mode, for i've been wanting more games with Figher-like combat and a focus on singleplayer for a while now. In any case, to find one's footing, i very much appreciate this video. I also want to clarify on two of the games i mentioned. Regarding Kya: Dark Lineage, it like a PS2 action platformer. There is surprisingly in-depth combat in the vein of Tekken (or so i've heard), as well as board sliding, wind gliding, freefalling, some *very* light puzzles and stealth, and riding on the back of a goofy raptor-like animal. It's got rough spots, but still i recommend looking it up! You learn new moves from purchasing new bracelets, that all offer a new set of attacks. First bracelet offers some Punch (Square) and Kick (Triangle) combos. The second bracelet offers more advanced Kick combos (which Dee Jay has been reminding me of), with different ones based on the position of the left analog stick relative to the enemy's position, while you press the Kick button. So holding the stick backwards and pressing Kick twice leads into a double backwards salto kick, holding it down leads into a leg sweep that leads into a double kick from a hand stand that ends in an axe kick, and more. Fourth and Fifth bracelet offer Grab moves and better evasive skill (a Jumpover, a sidestep, a quick step forward and a roll away), a different grab depending on if you stand in front, on the sides of, or behind an enemy, as well as a move where you pull the enemy back and kick them away,. And there's some more that i'll not spoil here. I'm hoping for Kya to get more attention and professional analysis in the future, as well as a second chance to live up to all the potential it has. The second game is Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. Story, world structure and camera perspective in line with the Norse God of War games, gameplay more in line with God Hand, and a colourful art direction with *bizarre* creatures. In the world, you can find different Stances, of which you can equip two to swap between at any time, even swap stance mid-combo. There's a: -Basic combo string -Charge attack -Running attack -Parry -Attack from a directional dodge (sideways, forwards and backwards) for every stance, each of which has its own animations. However, you can also assign three different Special Attacks to different inputs. And if you press an attack button the *moment* an attack lands on an enemy, the next attack will come out faster. It's really fun to mix and match your personal combat style like this. The Zeno Clash series as a whole deserve more attention. Would be interested in hearing your view on either of these games, amongst other people more experienced with Fighting games.

I'd love to learn about Chun Li. She's by far my favorite character just because of her strong legs and flashy kicks, but as a beginner it is a little intimidating to hear that she is the most "technical" and complicated character in the game.
@tonyl9636 Жыл бұрын
It's not the same, but I main Tekken and I play Mishimas, they are some of the hardest characters to play, and I can see that now that I am an "intermediate" player lol I switched to one of the easiest characters and instantly hit my highest rank a couple days later. If I was gonna tell someone who to learn id pick an all around character, because it's less likely to make you rage quit from frustration and it teaches you all aspects of the game, but I think you should play who you think is cool. Just remember that you suck, and that's totally fine. 99% of players in any game you can think of are in the bottom half of the ranks, they all suck, I suck too. What's important is having fun, so even though I could definitely be at a higher rank right now, I went back to my favorites because it's more fun. I got better at Fighting Games when I started to be less salty about losing, so I think you should play chun li, and if you feel the need switch to someone else, but as long as you're having fun you're going to get better way faster no matter who you play.

One thing to add: Projectiles are (basically) the same thing as Pokes, just with longer range. Toss out a bunch of fireballs in a row, make them jump over it because they're tired of blocking, hit them with the anti-air. So, once you're feeling confident throwing out pokes to make them jump, practice working projectiles into the mix.

Chun-Li guide (I know she's technical in this game and maybe not beginner-friendly, but you gotta play characters that interest you regardless to stick with it imo). I had fun with her in beta and almost hit gold. I need to learn charge but her stance helps with it. Honestly a lot of characters look awesome in SF6 but I'd also be interested in Cammy, Marisa, Ken and Zangief (though I never could do his 360 input as a kid when I played SF2 so I'll see if I can now) Rusty with my input motions too since I haven't played a fighter in a long time.
