Agreed. I've had two sets for thirty years. Once I'd figured out how to assemble them (insert the knife and lay the notch over the holders tang, then nest the fork in the spoon and slide the pair in until the dimple engages the hole in the holder and the bumps on the spoon shank click under the holder retainers- minimal force required), adjusted the bends in them so that they nested properly and clicked together securely, and then sharpened the can opener edge they've been treasured companions since.

You are right. I bought a set like that 16 odd years ago and used it for one meal and was convinced. I went to buy more the next Friday when I passed through that little town, and the owner said he had sold out by Monday night. Said all the Scouts for 3 counties around must have the same flat wear. I haven't seen anymore since. Where the heck did you find those? I'm with you, every glove box needs an eating / coffee kit. Keep up the good work.

I actually took a USGI mess kit knife to the bench grinder and then finished it on a stone by hand. It's reasonable quality stainless steel so it took a decent edge. But now it needs a blade guard to stow it in a mess kit. I have an even older one that is WWII or Korea that I'm going to sharpen up too. Stainless with cast aluminum handle. Going to work on putting together a full field kitchen in a heavy duty series of totes this summer. I'm going to look for your German mess kit cutlery sets. They look pretty good.

I lothe plastic utensils and have been carrying around a set of basically MRE cutlery for about a year now. I recently moved and lost my old set in the process, and I found on of these for $1.99 at a local thrift store. I gabbed it and have been loving this set.

really neat we have canaidian military ones but i thought they were the cats a$$ til i seen these im gonna havta find a set now ours doesnt have the can opener but i carry a tiny one bit smaller than my thumb made by speaker" and by gosh made in the usa" and i just love that tiny little thing it fits neatly in my wallet and impressed me and others many times i bought it in maine . and thank you again for a very interesting video always a pleasure and you are a wealth of knowledge 👍

There is new military Hungarian eating utensils on Amazon . $22.00 The can opener is easier to use than on the Bund utensils . The fork needed some sharp edge removal and slight polishing which took no time . Happy with the purchase , also bought Bund utensils . They are of equal quality . $21.49 Amazon . 12/22
