Fun fact: Hirsch once said he had a plan for a 3 season show with the end of season 2 being the reveal of Ford but he cut it down because people had correctly figured out what it was and he didn’t want to drag it out if everyone knew already. That’s some dedication to avoiding filler.

He was also exhausted by the end too. In the commentaries on the DVD collection, he mentions how losing a fellow writer from the show pushed him past what felt he could do. He did want to end it concisely because of shows like the Simpsons, Spongebob, etc. but he also wanted to give the series what it deserved. That usually involved 24 hour work days at times.

In the episode “Dungeons, Dungeons, and more Dungeons,” the Pines family watch an episode of the TV show “Ducktective.” In the show, there is a plot twist where it is revealed that Ducktective had a twin brother. Soos says moments after the big reveal that he “predicted that like a year ago.” This is a reference to how some people predicted that Stan had a twin brother (Ford) before the show ever got around to revealing him.

I personally think a way better example of this is in the body swap carpet episode. When Soos shows the twins and Stan the secret room he finds, in the background you can see Stan walk in and pick up a pair of old glasses that he holds on to for most of the episode. At first it doesn't really make that much sense since they just look like the glasses he wears until you realize upon a rewatch that they were Fords glasses and Stan likely sealed the wall up after he got lost in the portal. Throwing Stan in the background of that episode for a few seconds at a time looking at these glasses is a great yet subtle way of conveying how much he really misses Ford, but also how guilty he feels due to him covering up a part of the shack that had too many reminders of his brother for him to handle.

I know everyone on earth at some point in their lives has thought to themselves, "No one likes the things I like." It's not unique, but I have felt this feeling so many times throughout my days. Then I see videos like this that put into words the ideas and feelings I have all of these different aspects of my childhood and life as a whole. It makes me feel less alone in the world, and I can't t repay KZbin and it's creator's for their part in that. Thank you so much.

It's also insane that, when you think about it, stanley couldve been scamming people and making millions to fund the resources he needed to rebuild the portal. All of his character couldve been overplayed just so people had a reasonable explanation as to where all that money went, and we'll never even know. Thats the beauty of this show.

I once saw someone that thought Stan was so obsessed with money because when his father kicked him out he told him not to come back until he had a lot of money or something like that. I think it may be a combination of earning the money to eat, bring Ford back and that memory of his father.

I started watching this show in middle school when I was 12 going on 13. Then when the show ended was in 2016, so I was 16 going on 17. I was already dealing with the turbulence of high school and growing up, college and leaving my family was around the corner. You know, the coming of age mumbo-jumbo. Anyways, after doing research I found that the end of the series was the symbolize that childhood feels like an everlasting summer and at the end when Mabel and Dipper are on the bus exiting gravity falls it was almost like a sayonara to childhood. I remember watching the end of the series in the front room and taking off to my room to ball my eyes out before my parents could catch me. I'm turning 21, and this is still one of my favorite cartoon series.

I really liked the Show when I was a Kid,but i never finished it. 5 yaers later I finally did and it was good. Not as amazing as I rememberd it, but still good. The only thing I didn't liked was the final episode. I expected something like a big conspiracy that everyone was involved with (like in the Season 1 finally),[Spoiler] but instead it was an ancient Alien that took over the birds body to destroy everything. But the worst part was that they defeated him with the Power of friendship,(like literely) the friendship created an force field around them.(seriously, who came up with that stupid idea)

@@Suchti0352 See, this is was irks me about most online discussion of Gravity Falls. People seem to have selective memory when it comes to this show. You know the whole circle thing they were going to attempt to use to imprison Bill? That's on the same level of storytelling nonsense as _"the power of friendship!"_ Just like the towns-folk were the present-day incarnations of people's past in Gravity Falls, the Scooby gang was the present day incarnation of the mystery solvers. It's such a strong parallel between the two.

My first thought upon seeing Gravity Falls (I saw it after the show ended) was just how similar it is on every level to Mystery Inc. There's no denying that the characters of GF were absolutely amazing, and probably some of the best of any cartoon. But as for the over-arching mystery element of the show, I hold the very unpopular opinion that MI did it better than GF. Not a lot better, but still better. It's a highly underrated series. I also question if Alex got some inspiration from MI.

Edit: Spoilers! I also love how Stanley is in reality the smart twin. Just think about it: Without any special college education, he managed it to build an interdimensional portal to safe his brother with like a third of its original blueprint, while hiding it in his basement from the government for ~30 years. At the same time, he had a somewhat successful carreer (at least successful enough to finance all of this and a decent living). Gravity Falls was incredibly ahead of it’s time. Everything was so perfectly laid out. From the writing, to the subtle easter eggs/references in the show that you have to rewind a couple times to catch. Everything was perfect. Even though at first glance, it looks like your average goofy kids cartoon, it very clearly was intended for an older audience that’s able to fully grasp and understand everything the show throws at you. This is the only show I’ve ever watched that managed to make me shed a few tears on multiple occasions. And the finale made me feel emotions I never even knew I had. I’m rewatching Gravity Falls rn and I’ll admit, I was still a little confused about all the hype. Admittedly, the show had great humor and characters, but I wasn’t so sure about the mystery or plot. Then I realized- the reason this show was so loved was because of the community and how it was released. The community had time in between episodes to theorize and to discuss, and I think that that added with hidden codes made for an awesome way to get the audience invested in the plot. Makes me wish I watched this show as it came out

Dude I was dipper and Mabels age when that came out. I was not involved in that stuff at all. Yet it is still one of the best shows I think that has ever been created.

If you got involved with the theories it became a time thief. You remember all the hype waiting for Avengers Endgame? Almost like that.

@@protorhinocerator142 Some people like that. I like watching FNAF theories before and after new games come out. It's neat to see what the community can unfold. Plus, Scott's a troll who loves his fans.

This is my favorite show. No argument. I will never forget the times in the fandom where we're all putting the pieces together and giving out our theories.

I definitely caught that after rewatching. It was definitely not narcissism because Stan doesn’t think highly of himself at all, despite the grumpy and greedy front he puts up. It’s as the show constantly kept plastering at you as early as the end of Tourist Trapped, Stan is not what he seems.

My freshman year of high school, I randomly decided to give this show a shot. I personally had never watched a lot of mainstream shows growing up, this being one of them. 2 of my friends loved this show to a fault and overhyped it before I knew what it was, so I didn't like it or watch it. They would always talk about how intense it was and funny and mysterious so I thought they were glorifying the show beyond what it was capable of. I was clearly wrong This show has so much to offer: comedy, mystery, interesting characters, character development, and silly poltline subtly exposing a much larger plotline, realities of life explained in simple characters, bonds between twins, and so much more. This show has everything and more and doesn't even age. Even though I only started liking it fairly recently, this show means a ton to me and I'm glad I came back all this time to give it a chance because it blew me away and changed me for good.
So, I Finally Watched Gravity Falls...
