In our latest Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video we delve into the most absurd lore of the Elder Scrolls.
Dragonbreaks: • The MOST Confusing Con...
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

Without the "absurd" elements of the lore, TES would just be another generic fantasy rpg. I'm thankful we've got the Adoring Fan, Ma'iq, Uncle Sweetshare, the Numidium, CHIM, Pelinal, the Dwemer, etc.

As weird as all of these stories are, they're very much in line with a lot of traditional myth and folklore from the real world. Bethesda deserves a lot of credit for clearly taking inspiration from the bizarre stories our own ancestors told. Odin's horse Sleipnir, for instance, was born when Loki, the nominally male trickster, transformed into a mare to lure away a stallion, and that's frankly one of the more rational of Loki's children. Mating with a demon prince and severing his member to turn it into a spear is pretty much par for the course as far as real world mythology is concerned.

I think one of the main reasons elder scrolls achieves such realism is due to the fact a lot of the lore is not set in stone, by which I don't mean has been retconned, but rather a few schools of thought which are never confirmed much like in real life.

@HappyBeezerStudios 2 жыл бұрын
The most interesting thing is that it doesn't need a retcon to change the lore and keep the old lore at the same time. Dragon breaks allow for different things to be true at the same time. So all those different schools of thought can all be right.

The Vikings had a battle tactic of singing war songs to frighten their opponents. Historical documents have claimed that their voices sounded like that of an angry wolf or the screech of a demonic possession. They are credited by some to have been the first to use vocal frys and growls in song. Most accounts claim that not only was this method very effective against their enemies moral, but that it could have been what inspired the legend of the berserkers. I was adventuring on the coast of winterhold when i spotted a remarkablly well preserved mammoth, half-frozen inside a glacier. Upon closer inpection, I noticed several dwarven arrows protruding from the beast, as well as several dwarven throwing spears! This led me to believe that this artifact was hundreds, if not, thousands of years old! I could imagine a dwemer hunting party trudging through the snow in hopes of providing meat and furs for their people in the nearby city of Alftand. Diologe from Mjoll makes the black- family tree look like, Maven / Father(kaput) T Hemming / Ingun / Sibbi But than Hemming says "MY children, Sibbi and Ingun" instead of brother of sister Which makes me think that those two are the product of incest which would make the family tree look more like this Maven / father(still dead) T Hemming /Maven (again) T Ingun / Sibbi

I’ve been a huge LotR fan my whole life - I still am. But man am I blown away with TES. I was introduced to the Elder Scrolls in 2011 with Skyrim - a game my best friend’s girlfriend at the time bought him that we started playing - and I was hooked. I was so curious about the lore. I played Oblivion and lots of Morrowind since, but just played casually for a couple of years. It wasn’t until 2017 when I got into the Legends mobile game and TES Online and then I started reading TES lore articles on the internet and it’s amazing how profound and interconnected things are. Now I’m a diehard fan and can’t get enough. I sure hope Bethesda doesn’t muck up their beautiful creation with TES6.

I like the idea of TES being capable of being put in any fantasy setting with the simple fact of it being a dream. Just imagine someone in Pathfinder or D&D falling asleep and ending up on Tamriel and they can’t escape until they complete a special quest and can then depart as if they were never there. That’s just so bizarre to sleep and dream the dream of the Godhead!

What i like about tes lore the most is that those legends sound so real, and by real, i mean like our, real world legends are. We too have legends full of absurdity and impossible characters and so do the stories in tes. Even if they DID happen, because it's a fantasy world after all, most of it sounds like something you have to take with a grain of salt and you shouldn't take it literally, especially if it's about single people. A story always changes because every time it's retold someone adds a little of their own zing to it. It adds so much soul to the lore in my opinion :)
@HappyBeezerStudios

Yeah, we have to keep in mind that every story an NPC tells, every book or scroll or carving you read has been written by someone. And not just you as player reads something a developer at Bethesda wrote, but your character reads something a being in Mundus wrote. And those stories are how people remembered the story they heard from their peers and ancestors.

alright here is a shield only build that is also broken as all hell. what you need: any shield (preferably the shield of ysgramor, spell breaker and the targe of the blooded) as for the perks you would choose i'd say most shield perks are great, personally i don't recommend the one that slows time because it's buggy and makes fights take forever to finish, but go ahead if you like it) wether you want to go for heavy or light armour is up to you but i recommend not bothering with either because you really don't need to worry about physical damage once the build is complete. aside from the block skill tree the alteration tree is your next best friend, here you want to grab anything you can to max out magic resistance and spell absorption. at this point iwant to point out that you have to pick up any food ingredients for beef stew, vegetable soup and venison stew you can find because those will be essential for this build because you only ever need one point in stamina to shield bash, consuming either of the three gives you unlimited shield bashes. as for your birth sign i'd say with the steed (until you get the perk that lets you ignore armour weight, skip the steed if you don't use armour) the lord or the atronarch. as for the hsield to use, the best shield early on is the hsield of ysgramor, it's relatively easy to get and the elemental resistances are good for fighting mages because ranged combat will be your weakness until you can walk faster with the shield raised. next you should grab the targe of the blooded, just make sure to also carry the shield of ysgramor so you can switch to it when fighting mages. later you should replace the shield of ysgramor in this strat with spellbreaker. finally, once you have miraaks set as well as the atronarch stone you have perfect spell absorption, at which point you can fully comit to the targe of the blooded. once you have all that yo uare basically unkillable, archers aren't a problem once yo ucan walk normally with the shield raised, mages won't be a problem ocne you get spell breaker and melee opponents can't do shit when you keep staggering them with shield bashers or just run them over with the level 100 perk.

The idea of Cyrodil being a jungle always confused me as it was also described as being a highly fertile land , which, although I’ve never tried, I can’t imagine growing crops in a jungle is particularly easy. It was also supposed to be quite densely populated which compared to other provinces, which again I can imagine a jungle getting in the way of.
