I think the stiffness and the stand-offishness of the Jedi is the point? The attitude and stance of the Jedi Order is ripped straight out of kinda generic Buddhism 101. Humans suffer. They suffer b/c they desire things. They desire money. They desire people. They desire power. If you remove that desire, you remove the suffering. And if you remove that desire, you can be clearer in your decision making b/c you don't have it clouding your judgement (and, as the Sith Code goes, it leans completely into the opposite direction, of course; you lean into your passion, into your desires, into your ambitions). I mean, I think most/all of us know this? But, I guess I'm surprised every time people seem surprised by how the Jedi behave?

I think my biggest continuing issue which is even more so evident in this series is that everything feels so rushed. We are more or less in an entire new universe that we have never seen before and we can't get any more back story to these characters? I might care after the end of the show but I don't really feel anything when they kill off these characters because I've only been with them for 2 to 3 minutes. Another 15 to 20 minutes of backstory in these episodes to learn more would be wonderful. I still enjoyed the first couple episodes though. Edit: 19:30, your comments about essence of the force in episode have me massively worried 😂

@OrionInSpace7 ай бұрын
If you listen to what John Campos said yesterday about it, he brought up a great point. I think the idea of how much a budget is utilized for a show like this for example can also really come down to you as a filmmaker shoot it by the scale of its budget. The Acolyte visually feels like an $180 million show but it’s being shot like it’s on a smaller budget. John mentioned the idea that there are ways that shots are framed that make it look smaller than it probably should be and don’t show the actual scale of the world.

Hey Kristian love the show! I tried a different approach this time with their shows. Like you I was waiting years for this to come out but this time I didn’t watch trailers outside of the first one. I didn’t go looking for reviews, or tv spots or dig for articles that would have bolstered my expectations like it did for kenobi. So I went into the show not knowing very much. I wanted to love the series but after 2 episodes I was like meh. It wasn’t terrible but it’s also not a show I’ll rewatch down the road either. Biggest issue SW has today is that when Lucas ran it, it was about the story and he did it his way, the way he wanted it told and if it made a fortune that was a bonus. A New Hope almost didn’t happen due to budget and yet it’s one of the most successful movies of all time in my opinion. Today’s SW Disney cares more about the profit and the story is secondary and it shows. The franchises is getting pulled in 30 directions with too many visions and it’s not working. SW is surviving because of the name not the stories today. Outside of a couple of hits they haven’t really done anything exciting. I’m 50 so I’ve grown up with it from the start not during the sequel times. Thoughts? Thanks for the content!! Amazing work!!

Carrie Ann moss was already shown in flashbacks in the trailers. The killing a Jedi without a weapon thing is a metaphor - he doesn’t actually mean don’t use a weapon. But man let me tell you when i finished watching both of the Acolyte episodes with my girlfriend we loved it! I enjoy ALL of the characters, the world, the music and the story. Yes it was predictable (it was alreasy speculated that she was a twin before the show)but they spoon fed all the info to you because thats not the mystery, the nystery is what did the jedi do that a master would take the barosh vow and then kill himself? I read most of the high republic books but not the recent stuff yet and itl really liked the subtle nods they made like Yord and Vanestra being stoic and dogmatic. They are respresentations of what the jedi become in the prequels, as they get more involved in politics and move from peacekeeprs to lapdogs of corrupt politicians. Yord was so quick to reach for his saber and start a fight compared to the older Jedi Sol and Indara who never used there sabers and showed much more emotion and compassion (Sol trusting Osha about her dead sister) I just am really into this show.and to me man, it sounds like you need a break from starwars and focus on other content you enjoy more otherwise youll just end up watching starwars with the expectation that itll be bad and then will only look for flaws, idk you of course but just something I noticed and hope that starwars will one day excite you again as this show isnt the one thats doing it for you. The CW lighting they went for is also lame. Like why make the conscious decision to go with that CW teen soap opera lighting? Ugh dumb.
@iansmart41587 ай бұрын
Have yall actually seen a CW show? The teen soaps on the CW look way better than the acolyte. 90210 is a really well shot show.
@bamm867 ай бұрын
“Well shot” is subjective. I used to watch all the arrow verse shows. The lighting is very much like the acolyte’s. It’s done on purpose. It’s basically a lighting option and for whatever reason, they wanted to do a Star Wars show with that teen soap opera drama lighting.

Nice way to put Kristian. My thoughts on the show pretty much echo yours. So far I give it a 6/10 so I guess that means I like it for the most part. I definitely think you're on the right track as far as who the "Master" is, and if it is him, it was way too obvious, I have no clue who your other pick is yet. I kind of now what happens in ep 3, but I'm going to wait to see it before forming any opinions on it. When I first heard about the premise of this show I was excited, but that seems like it was a long time ago. And since then, Star Wars has been meh to me. Although I did enjoy Ahsoka.

Thanks for the video Kristian! The only thing I disagree with you on Kristian is the fandom being united with mando season 1 & 2. For me personally, I have felt like Star Wars hasn’t been a fun space or fandom since before the Last Jedi released (which I liked). It was fun to talk about Star Wars until then and since then it has not been fun to talk about without getting a ton of shit

INDARA IDEA: Intercut both her and May’s approach to the noodle salloon, showing Indara’s caring yet somewhat playful interactions with the townspeople, contrasted against May’s short and cold encounters. Continue the intercut w/ both characters ordering and eating an entire meal on opposite ends of the salloon, highlighting that Indara is a regular who is loved by EVERYONE in the establishment for being a unofficial bouncer, and May is a mysterious newcomer. As a drunk, hulking alien patron gets rowdy, May watches as Indara walks over and successfully talks him down without any force usage, causing May to interrupt with her fight challenge. May and Indara begin the first phase of fight with the massive patron being used by and against both.

It's fine to introduce NEW ideas into Star Wars. It's not ok to change something that has long been long established to push an agenda. I might be out after episode 3.

I think starting the show with a flashback to what actually happened, like why Mae wants to kill these four Jedi, then the whole context and tone of the show would be so much better. Right now, we have no idea why they are being hunted, or if what they did was all that bad, so there's not a lot of tension, it's just like "oh ok this is happening." If we knew what happened up front, we'd be having the internal debate of who's right, who's justified and it would be a lot more tense and dramatic. And this way, we would have gotten to know Indara more before she was killed?

To quickly follow up, the character decisions are my biggest negative. Can’t stand Yord. With that said, I’ve been seeing a lot of negative chatter & nitpicking around the “fire in space.” Give me a break. It’s not that big of a deal.
@williamplants677 ай бұрын
Is it nitpicking or is it bafflement in reaction to a severe lack of attention to detail.
@jdashy237 ай бұрын
@@williamplants67well I guess it just depends. For example, the same concept is applied for sound in space. I guess I just find it frustrating when we get all upset over something like fire in space but then don’t blink an eye when it comes to sound. I.E the sound tie fighters make in space is the same principle as fire in space. Neither would happen in space.

Okay heres my guess right or wrong hopefully wrong. The mom is bad Mae seemed more loyal to her so they left her, and took Osha. They had to tell Mae Osha was dead because they knew she would not stop looking, its family, and they told Osha that because it would distract from her becoming a Jedi. When she, with training could sense that Mae was still alive, she left the order. Were now seeing the first time she was able to confirm that after many years of trying.

This just makes me even more excited for the DCU shows now. I really think that James Gunn is going to have his creatives put their all into the DCU shows and that the DCU shows are going to hit much harder and be more exciting to casual fans than the recent Marvel & Star Wars shows and because of that it will force Disney to put a little bit more work into crafting their stories for fear of being left behind. A sort of rising tide raising all ships. If the DCU can hit like Fallout S1, House of the Dragon & Last of Us it will do much more for Marvel/Star Wars than Deadpool 3 can long-term

$170 million dollars for this, seems like money laundering to me. This is the poorest the writing, effects and shots, make up and music has ever been for Star Wars. My kids hate this as well. They much prefer other shows, like stranger thing's, invincible and my hero academia.

My issue is that the High Republic era was built on and heavily advertised as this is the era where the Jedi live up to all the legends and expectations that Obiwan told Luke about. Knights of Truth and Justice in the galaxy, and yet in the first live action show set in this era the Jedi seem no different than those in the prequel era. I feel like the show is going to continue down the route of “the Jedi aren’t who you think they are and they’re not as good as they believe”. Which is the same drum Disney/Lucasfilm has been banging on for every era and every movie/show. It’s like I get wanting to subvert what is known or be a deconstruction of how Star Wars is viewed but if that’s all you do it’s no longer subversion and it just ruins the original. Example I’m tired of dark,gritty,evil Superman I just want to see the blue Boy Scout, that’s how I feel about the Jedi. Can I just get a character like Luke trying to do good as best he can without being some example or metaphor for oppression, corruption or military/religious zealotry.

Don’t understand why he stands out so much lol. I really enjoy hearing the Jedi converse with each other (on Coruscant) and discuss some of their philosophies on overcoming emotion and avoiding the need for revenge. That’s the kind of stuff George wrote about and it’s my favorite part of Star Wars.
