Definitely a Rashomon situation going on. My guess is the Jedi sensed the fire and went to help, the witches thought they were coming with malicious intent, and drew their space bows in defense. The Jedi then drew their sabers and things spiraled out of control. Mai said at very beginning the Jedi don't draw their weapons unless prepared to kill. The Jedi being more skilled fighters ended up killing them. Torbin Tommen, being the youngest, would likely be the most affected.

They did say the ritual to spontaneously create the twins was forbidden. But I definitely think Mae's "Power of One" was greater than their "Power of Many." In her psycopathic determination, if anyone said "Osha must be allowed to make her own choice," Mae would likely lash out at them, even their mother. She might on some level regret the action, but if it meant Osha would stay it would be justified in her mind.

That the children are too young to make the decision for themselves is debatable, but Sol's statement was true, from a certain point of view. To prove the point, they probably also knew Mae was lying, but because she wanted to fail, to stay, they didn't force her to come along. I think the episode is telling this event from Osha's point of view. We have not seen things yet from Mae's point of view. There is always more than one point of view and in order to get the truth, you have to have all points of view. Though as Sebastian Stark (James Wood, TV series Shark) would remind us, "Truth is relative. Pick one that works." Also consider that whatever did happen, it is something that Torbin was willing to take his own life for. He said that "we thought we were doing the right thing" right before drinking the poison that Mae had placed on the floor. My view of this is that the Jedi returned to the coven that night, intent on taking the twins regardless the wishes of the coven, the coven resisted, and things escalated to violence. Let's face it, Sol was there PDQ, and that suggests that he was there before any fire started.

Leslie did say this was basically killed Bill meets Frozen now I've seen killed Bill but I've never seen Frozen so that remains a mystery to me but, in Kill Bill the Revenge was justifiable for what they did to her so I'm going to assume that Jedi did something horrible because after all master Tobin chose to drink poison instead of confessing what he did to the Jedi Council! And when he was on the ship when Sol was talking to me he already had the scar so something went down we didn't see which we will in upcoming episodes to gain a greater perspective of who is quote good and who is quote bad! I've got a bad feeling about this because I think Sol also did something he regrets although he says he's made peace with it whether he just help cover things up because after all the Jedi archives didn't mention anything about her having a twin sister so there's something Shady going on with master Sol!!

The Jedi were the institution at this point in time, and they made the rules. There was an arrogance to the way they approached things, and I think that arrogance led to their downfall in the prequel era
@sakisaotome67536 ай бұрын
i believe the reason the jedi are so twitchty about others training chidren is because most force cults that they have encountered turn out to be evil. i mean we can go back to the beginning with the Sith who after they split off with the jedi spent the next several thousand years waging war on them and the republic. in high republic era there were other force cults like i believe the way of the open hand who believed that using the force was bad and so attacked & killed people who did. and for as much as we love witches in this channel, the nightsisters who are the most prominent sect of witches in the star wars universe are not known for the beneficence. so its not a matter of not liking "competition" or arrogance because they are the established state force religion. its that the members of every other force cult they have come across end up being dark side users who end up attacking and hurting others. they do so out of caution due to past experience. the dark side is generally easy and corruptive. dabbling it in generally has led to bad outcomes. obviously i dont know how the jedi would treat others force cults that share a similar light side path like the mountain tribes of dathomir. maybe they'd make exceptions for cults that have a good track record of not wanting to kill people and/or take over the galaxy. or maybe they've been bitten so many times that they're closed minded about letting even those with good track records, but their reasoning is ultimately because all the other guys turn evil! if the jedi had found palpatine before the sith would we have had all the suffering that resulted in and from the empire and later the first order? likely not. obviously, at least from the point of view that we are being given in this episode, the way the jedi dealt with this was bad. but is that because that the way all jedi would handle it or does that stem from master indara? i imagine that had Sol been alone or at least in charge things would have gone drastically differently. but that wasn't the case indara was the lead jedi of this party and we get is because of her and her leadership.

Thanks so much for the comment that their style of powers is different from the Dathomir witches! That's what I felt, but I wasn't really sure. My guess is that Sol is culpable for what happened, but I am guessing his actions came from excessive love (for a Jedi). Like, I suspect he tampered with Osha's memories to try and help her feel better. When Vernestra said that she underestimated Sol's attachment to Osha, he doesn't actually deny it. But when his Padawan Jecki asked him, he basically replied with a half-truth that contemplating the past can serve as a lesson not to repeat it. I feel like Sol knows better than to try and pull that sort of thing on Vernestra, but his Padawan is deferential to him. Bottom line - Sol does have attachment issues with Osha. And my suspicion is that this will have been the cause of ... problems. I am guessing that he also felt attachment to Mae, but he could see in her heart that she wished to stay. Maybe this will have caused some friction between him and Indara. We'll see when we get Mae's perspective, maybe. My guess is that whenever things went down, Indara ordered Sol to go look for the twins and get them to safety, while she dealt with the confrontation. So maybe Sol was calling out for Mae also simply to follow orders. Or maybe it was more...

I've a suspicion that wasn't actually Mae who started the fire. She spoke too creepily, like the Force vision Mae in episode 1. If you look at the bridge scene, Mae didn't seem surprised to see Osha there, she didn't seem eager for her to die, and she's even questioning what Osha might've done to cause all this. I suspect Mae might have just returned from her walk with the Zabrak mother and found the whole fortress destroyed, Mama Aneisaeya dead, and Osha the only one alive. Maybe Mae had witnessed Torbin and the rest doing something (killing the witches?), which is why she had this vengeance against them. I also suspect the Sith might have a hand in this. Maybe they're the ones conjuring up visions and moving the pieces? It's too convenient how Mae ended up (presumably) in their care. Also, there's the whole talk about how the twins might have been conceived through unnatural means (no father, something the witches don't want the Jedi to find out). Considering where we are in the timeline, this may be knowledge the Sith might've been pursuing with these witches. There's no way the Sith could've known of such things from Mae, as the twins aren't aware of this fact. The witches must have some contact with the Sith. Maybe it was them who didn't want Osha to go with the Jedi, as she would become a threat to the Sith? Perhaps the events of this series would be what ultimately inspire Plagueis to devote his studies into the creation of life, ultimately sparking the sequence of events towards the birth of Anakin Skywalker eight decades later…

I am so glad you enjoyed it. So many reactors on here were shitting hard on this episode. A lot of them were even saying that this episode alone would be the end of Star Wars. Most of them were hating on the fact that we saw the first interaction between the twins moms. All that happened was Mother Aniseya but her hand on Mother Koril's face and that was it. Also, I think some are also shitting on the fact that a younger Sol had been watching the twins for how ever long. I think this and the so-called lesbian scene was taken way out of context and people just need to F'N relax. I appreciate the fact that you didn't get all wishy washy like some of these other idiotic so-called reactors did. I don't waste my time watching those people's reaction. Btw, I think some of these reactors had a problem with the fact that Brandok was populated by only women and some of these reactors are women themselves. I just don't get these people sometimes. It's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Smh

@@always4everjuly156 My point being is I haven't seen so much hate for this show until this 3rd episode. That's not to say there haven't been reactors hating the show before this episode. Because there were, but it was nothing like after this last episode. If you look at the graphic and title of these reactors videos it's so, for the most part, abundantly clear what they were upset about. It's whatever though. People are gonna hate what they wanna hate. I just feel, IMO, the reasons behind the hate are just petty. Making it out to be more than it really is.

I’m confident we haven’t seen the whole backstory yet. There’s going to be some Rashomon elements and there’s some perspective we haven’t seen yet. What did this sect do to get banished, and why were the Jedi so concerned about training children? I love witches in Star Wars. It’s interesting to see other ways the Force is manipulated. We need that to have more stories. Otherwise the Sith is the only dangerous threat out there. Though, we know in this series the Sith are in the background.

great video! thank you so much for being a positive voice in this fandom. A lot of the negativity has been getting to me lately and your take on this episode really cheered me up. This episode was so cool. I loved seeing a new group of force users with the coven, and seeing the main characters family. I also love the not great light the jedi are seen in this ep. They basically pressured the coven to let the girls take the test. And Osha and Mae only being 8 I get the idea of letting Osha choose her own destiny, but she is also only 8 lol most parents wouldn't just want to let their kid be taken by some people at 8 to never be seen again, so I cant blame like Korril for being super against it lol. I am so curious to get more answers about what happened that night. The main thing I noticed is the scene when their mother is training them and talking about the force they hear a noise from the next room, that generator room and when Koril goes to look there is nothing. I wonder if the Jedi or someone else tampered with something. So excited for the rest of this show

I don’t like this show at all, but if you do then you should ignore people that disagree and continue liking it, the same way I wouldn’t change my mind just because someone said they didn’t agree with me. The witches: because they just want to live their lives away from the High Republic and the Jedi. And the Jedi: because they are worried about both the threat of dark force wielders and for the safety and well being of the twins.

I enjoy this show and all your Star Wars reactions. Any crime mystery like The Acolyte takes time and patience to unfold. There are a lot of new themes that intrigue me, such as the imbalance of power between individuals and societies. Instead of only a fight between good and evil, we see more of one for who gets to wield power. How they get it is also insightful, such as Mae gaining power over Osha when the uninvited Jedi barge in and interrupt the Ascension ceremony. Unintended consequences of overzealous Jedi who do that may have saved Osha from becoming the witch she did not want to be, but it also led to Mae's power grab after meeting with Mother Koril. We don't see them together at the end of the episode. We know that the other mother and a lot of witches die. Mae sits alone under the Bunta tree on Brendok after we see Osha regain consciousness for some still undisclosed reason and mysteriously unaware of what happened. Where is Koril? How does she use Mae's new power? And what would or who would induce Mae to leave the planet where she says she had everything she wanted? I like all of that.

I'm really liking all the nuance we're getting from this show. You get the sense that the Jedi aren't perhaps the good guys, or at least not as good as we've always been led to believe. Certainly you see that not everyone in the galaxy buys into the "guardians of peace and juxtice" line, which makes it more plausible how people could turn against them so easily later. I also like how we're seeing that there are other ways of viewing and using the Force than Jedi and Sith.

Watch the clone wars and you will find that many planets didn't buy the jedi way. So I was not surprised by their fiew. What surpised me more was how both mothers teached their daughters not to follow their hearts but to lie.
@ErikDayne6 ай бұрын
This is just my opinion, but I don’t think a story with a literal “light and dark side” is the right place for nuance or moral equivalency. The Jedi weren’t perfect, but they’re supposed to be a symbol of good. Their flaws were supposed to be arrogance, stagnation, being overly dogmatic, and ironically, getting too involved in politics. So when Luke Skywalker went into hiding in the Last Jedi, that didn’t sit right with me. Jedi aren’t cowards. It just doesn’t make sense that he would do that. And in this show, when Torbin drinks the poison, that doesn’t make sense to me. Jedi don’t allow guilt to consume them. Especially when he said “we thought we were doing the right thing”. And the stuff with “maybe the Jedi aren’t the good guys” in regards to their pursuit of Mae and Osha, I don’t like that either. Why was Sol creeping on them in the woods? Jedi don’t hide in the shadows, Sith do. Why did they lie “oh we didn’t know anyone was on this planet”, ok then what are you doing here? Jedi don’t lie. I don’t mind the Jedi being imperfect, if they were perfect they never would have fallen. But I think some flaws, like being cowardly or domineering, go against core Jedi values, and therefore don’t make much sense to me. I like stories that make you question the morality of the characters, I just don’t like the Jedi being painted with that brush as being moral is one of their core values.

The only problem I had with this episode is that, for a full episode of backstory, I was left with even more questions...and there's only 5 episodes left! I thought they portrayed a Coven of Witches that had been hunted and exiled very well. They looked like they were surviving and just trying to mind their own business, so as to stay out of any prying eyes' spotlights. I really hope they stick the landing, too!

Star Wars more than anything is about world building... And there are just some of that that is set in stone by George, the same way as there is in Middle Earth by Tolkien, The Seven Kingdoms by GRRM, etc.. Outside of those pillars it's a free for all. People tell stories within these boundaries all the time, and it's not about those at all, however terrible the Acolyte writing is (seems to be a fairly unanimous sentiment after these first 3 episodes - oh well). Especially in Star Wars with all the comics, books by a myriad of writers the most well known probably being Zahn, video games, encyclopedias, etc. It's basically fan fiction. The concept of canon vs extended universe gets complex once you stray from anything George has written (and even original George vs new George gets controversial among fans), so when a studio not really affiliated with George makes a series for the explicit goal of injecting a ton of "new stuff" that has no place in Star Wars, and then boldly claims that it supercedes the concepts of the original boundaries - fans just aren't going to like it. What people really should do is just cast it aside (they mostly have it seems) and treat it like the fan fiction that it is. Life is too short for hate, and luckily making TV-shows like these is just going to be an AI prompt in 10 years anyways. Everyone can make their own content if they feel the need for the shows they watch to reflect something about themselves be it looks or otherwise (hella narcissistic but whatever lol), then the average of all that will naturally follow a bell curve and we will end up with something that fits the demographic. We won't have a cultural bond over it like we do (did?) now, but the future is not going to be unifying in any way. After all, quick jerk instant gratification is highly subjective.

thanks for a great reaction! the cause of the witches' death is still a mystery. there's no way that little fire could've caused all of that destruction. it also remains to be explained exactly why the jedi were there to begin with. what was shown here was also not a reason for torbin to kill himself.

This is an odd comment considering the way they’re trying to inject moral equivalency into Star Wars would seem to be a more mature and complex tone. Now, I’m not a fan of that at all, personally I think a story that includes a literal “light and dark side” should have clear moral delineation, not moral equivalency. But I certainly think it’s hard to say that makes the story more simplistic and therefore more childish.
