Oh yeah I imagine so. My issue isn’t with the narrative vehicle. It’s that the vehicle comes out of nowhere and you kind of just have to accept at a certain point like “oh that’s what we’re doing.. okay got it” and it’s inconsistent

Loved the episode, and I’m very happy that they are going in this direction. Here is why: take any large modern day religion. There are two components that don’t necessarily reconcile: The faith and the members who are representation of said faith. Take Christianity for example; on one hand, you have the doctrine which talks about love, fairness, ethics, morality and kindness. On the other hand, you have adherents to Christianity who are responsible for killing/murdering/enslaving/colonizing (you get the point) millions of people for various reasons- in the name of Christianity. From an academic perspective, if you only judged Christianity from the Bible- it wouldn’t give you a complete view on how well that particular religion operates, its nuances and its flaws. The Acolyte, continues where The Phantom Menace and parts of The Clone Wars left off: There is something systematically Flawed with the Jedi order. However, cannon material hasn’t really shown us these flaws. The original trilogy and sequels paint this rose colored version of a monastic order that is deeply flawed. Episode 3, shows the overreach of the Jedi. Essentially, they are a stronger power giving the witches little choice to comply with their wishes. There was no evidence of abuse or neglect on the girls- but rather the Jedi were attempting to bypass laws because they *felt* they had the authority (tons of issues with that legally as well). Episode 3 painted an amazing scene of absolute power corrupting absolutely. Maybe this wasn’t the most entertaining episode for most people. However , I think it was inevitable for the fans to be upset, because as Conor mentioned on the show- he doesn’t like grey. That’s how our brains operate. We prefer things to be simple/black and white, because it’s just easier. In reality, the fans have said all along we KNOW the Jedi aren’t perfect , but when a director puts it right in front of us- people lose it, because the truth is harder to swallow than the abstract idea of flawed Jedi. Lastly, for everyone who criticized the writing/acting of Mae/Osha- give me a break. They are kids and their opinions/actions will be very emotional based and/or simple compared to adults. It’s actually more lunacy to expect Osha to come up with some Oscar winning speech why she wants to leave. I get it, it’s fantasy- but to expect kids to provide better dialogue is a bit out of touch with reality. But by all means, when Grogu’s first coherent sentences is him reciting war and peace - that will be obviously more believable.

3:21 you both make a great point. Everyone has the their own take what they love from Star Wars and what they don’t like from Star Wars. My nephew who’s 15 now once said “ Everyone is different. Nobody is the same.” And that is perfect saying when it’s comes to the Acolyte. Some people like it, some people don’t. But at the end of the day it’s Just Star Wars.

I want to start off by saying this is the best (healthiest) critique of star wars I have heard. I completely disagree with the 3/10 rating, but I 10/10 like how you expressed it. Roshambo is a story telling technique made famous by Akira Kurosawa. You see the same event, but from four different points of view. While the facts never change, the subtext for the scene is drastically altered based on whose eyes you are seeing the event through. 98% of the time you see this in film or television it is kept very simple because we assume the viewer doesn't have the mental bandwidth to handle more than " Is the lightsaber on or off? " Like Seth pointed out, this is a Roshambo, but with lots of moving parts. I do agree though that waiting a week between episodes is an added layer of difficulty of tracking all the moving parts. I feel like this story telling style is perfectly designed to help to expand the viewers empathy. To remind us we are living in a 7 billion faceted Roshambo every day. I would also argue that this is a perfect time and place to throw a Roshambo at us with this level of complexity. We have the video on demand. We can go frame by frame. We. Have. SUBTITLES! I think we are seeing a response to changing mediums. This is a TV jigsaw puzzle that is as interactive as you want it to be. You can go hard core and over analyze everything, or you can just sit back and wait till the last episode for it all to make sense. I also think you should view all of the Disney+ shows as a singular "serialized" show. All of these shows have gone back and reinforced concepts introduced in the sequel era, and are laying the building blocks for the Mando / Grogu movies. And seeing as how we are only 3/8 of the way through the show, and it feels like we know 30-40% of the whole story, id say pacing wise we are where we should be, and once the story is complete, we will be able to go back and understand these scenes in a new light. This is also a murder mystery, if they revel too many clues we as the viewer know exactly what is going to happen and why.... and still have 5+ hours of content to sit through. [ Meat and Potatoes ] What is Good? What is Evil? What law of nature says only the righteous shall procreate? Who decides where to draw the line between Good and Evil? Is there no room for someone to have a different opinion? A morally black and white universe versus a morally gray universe is really what this show is exploring. The heart of this story is that absolute good and absolute evil do not exist. The coven wasn't persecuted for using Dark Side powers, they were persecuted for not believing in the Force in the "right" way. This is not about right or wrong, this is about power, and who gets to use it. - Mother Anasayah. The real life comparison here could be the difference between Catholics, Baptists, and Methodists. All three believing in the same Christian God, but each with its own view point on the original event, just as we have Sith, Jedi, and Thread. Another direct from real life comparison would be Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Both Christianity and Islam directly stem from Judaism, all three worshipping the same God, but each of the 3 factions have differing view points on what "actually happened". At this point in the real world, it would not be surprising at all to find that most people do not know that the Jewish holy book the Torah, is the Christians Old Testament. How different is this from the Force that binds us, to the Thread that holds us together? I would be more inclined to agree with you about the twins splitting between Dark and Light, if you add the word leaning to it. I don't believe in absolute Good and Evil, and George didn't either if you think back to New Hope and Ben's Point of view. It is easy to talk about good and evil in extremes, it becomes much harder to discern right from wrong the more nuance you add. Also who decides if using the force in a specific way is Dark Side / Light Side? If we praise Jedi for being attuned to nature, why to we say force lightning is Dark? What is the rationale saying that Jedi can invade the mind's of other sentient beings without their permission? How is that not Dark? Another major thread running through Star Wars since Disney, is having empathy for others. Not just people of color, or based on someone's sexual preferences, but even for those who we fundamentally disagree with. They are asking us to face a much more nuanced world. The other team isn't evil, we aren't saints. It does not imply that you should not be held accountable for bad behavior, instead it asks us to try and see they world through someone else's eyes and beliefs, and then deciding how you wish to proceed. The 4 Jedi were sent specifically to investigate this coven and find out exactly what was going on. It feels like we are hitting on cultural imperialism here, where the "enlightened" culture goes out into the wilderness and teaches the savages how to be civilized. The Jedi are policing the Force to ensure that for the most part, no one influenced by the Dark Side, or who is super powerful and *could maybe* one day fall to the Dark Side is allowed to exist. Half of that sounds like a great idea, half of that sounds super Dark Side-y. Again we are just being asked to look at our own actions through the eyes of others and to ask ourselves, do the two images line up? Final Thoughts Konnor- If you only want to hear the good guys say phrases from your holy texts, I think this show is speaking specifically to you. Its asking you to look at your faction and ask, have we always been the good guys in everyone else's mind? We are always going to think our faction is the good guys, what is much more telling, is how everyone else views your faction. Seth - I also think lol, after hearing your comment about "lower tier" force user, is the admission that in your mind you are biased to think that Jedi and Sith are the only two Force wielding factions that matter. The show is asking you to question why the Witches of Dathomir or the Knights of Ren are not considered valid ways of looking at the Force. ( Quick answer being because thats how it was originally presented to us ). In the Religion analogy it would be the same as asking why is Taoism or Later Day Saints are also not given the same respect as the more popular religions. Fun Facts - The hilts of the sabers are thicker in order to include the battery pack that powers them. They have changed from doing the glow in CGI, back to practical. Ahsoka's were thin because she had her battery packs in her sleeves. Did the tree look dead to you at the end of the episode? They have said on at least two official posts that the Darth Vader comic was not meant to imply that Sidius created Anakin and placed him in Shmii's womb. They repeated that Sith are unreliable narrators. Just discovered you guys like 4 hours ago when I started typing this lol. I will be sticking around to hear your thoughts. - Frank R.

I think the Abeloth take may be where they are going. Disney SW has been introducing known characters in a particular show and then brings them back in a different show as a main focus. That may be what they are doing here. Although they never actually mentioned Abeloth in Ahsoka, I believe that is who is calling the Baylan. The Father statue is pointing at a beacon in the distance at the end of the finale. I think he is pointing to where Abeloth is imprisoned or maybe the fountain that’ll she drank from.

Sadly, this show is just the epitome of Star Wars fandom: some fans see something trying to be done. Hit, miss, good, bad, whatever you think. Then there are those that had preconceived notions. Believers of a big agenda, Disney getting in their own ways, etc. I’ll leave it at that. The fact that you guys had to put a disclaimer is both not surprisingly, yet very sad. There just can’t be a nice discussion or debate. It is a problem with this fandom. Too many people just need to realize that maybe this show just isn’t for them and leave it at that. Thank you guys. Always two there are. A master and an apprentice. The apprentice is usually the one doing all the work while the master stays hidden, pulling the strings. I think Seth was right in that Sol might be a Sith. I think he is the master and Qimir is the toothy guy. I think that the Sith master worked with the witches using Sith alchemy to create the twins and this may end up being what is studied by Plagueis and Palpatine to create life. The witches were killed, so their magic is no longer used, but I think Plagueis finds some old texts from the Sith Master who helped the witches create life. If this is how they spin it, linking this to Plagueis and Palpatine, I think it would end up being a good show.

The potential inconsistency of the jedi training timeline crosses my mind as well. In this episode, we see Torbin as Indara's padawan 16 years ago. In episode 2, we learn that he has taken the Barash Vow and hasn't spoken to anyone in 10 years. However, he is considered a master. That implies that he went from padawan to master within 6 years, which seems expedited. That seems suspect to me.

I understand the writing and flow of the episode could be better as well as the young girls not being the best actors, but I thought it was nice to see some more LGBTQ representation being brought into starwars but not overly done (imo) as well as get a different take on a coven of witches that aren’t nightsisters and seeing a different take on the force. I love how fair you guys are being. Almost everyone else I've has been just overly harsh and pulling out the WOKE nonsense. About the only other people I've seen give a far critique are Kyle Katern and Omn1Media. I really think the Jedi did something to those witches. Whether they came to collect Osha and things got heated or something else. I do like the witches calling out the Jedi's BS for basically having a monopoly on the Force. Which is kinda true, they allow other religions of the Force to exist unless they are Dark Side. With the exception of Nightsisters because they don't cause harm to other people. I get why people are pissed about the whole twin virgin birth thing but it's not bothering me right now. It's possible it was done a different way inside of what happened with Anakin. Plus they haven't elaborated on how they did it. I have a theory as to why the Jedi were their in the first place. Perhaps whatever those witches did to create the twins, caused ripples in the Dark Side. Alerting the Jedi to their location.

It's refreshing to hear actual seekers who are sincerely following the series for good, bad or indifferent. I don't get what the uproar is, since I understand that the prophecy of the chosen one says nothing about virgin birth. The series IS delivering on the promise of connecting to the Phantom Menace. We knew we wouldn't get Palpatine or Plagueis with it taking place so long ago, but we at least got what might be the canon version of HOW they may have created Anakin. The Darth Plagueis novel is Legends, and the conception being a consequence instead of intent in that book never sat well with me.

The AC Rogue comparison is perfect. My issue with the portrayal of the Assassins in the game is that they aren't bad in a way that makes sense with their ideology. It would have been more interesting to see the Assassin's proclivity for freedom at any cost and ripping down power systems bite them, rather than making them bad in the same way the Templars are with oppression. The Jedi as well to me can be flawed too, but i'm not sure I'm vibing with how they are that way in this show so far. That said, there's more episodes to come and i am open to new ideas. Love the video. There is so much to unpack & I want to say so much, instead I will address one of the topics. The Jedi & Sith have always been shades of grey. We have always just ignored the grey & trusted (we are told this) that the Jedi is the light & Sith is the dark, but here are just some example of the grey/things we ignore: Luke using Force choke (dark side ability) on the Gamorrean guards; Luke went to either force Jabba to return his friend or he was going to kill him. The taking young children has always been a Jedi thing (brainwash them while they are young). Count Dooku become a Sith Lord because the Jedi now served the Republic (a corrupt organization) instead of the will of the Force. Raven disobeying the Council to fight the Mandalorians & so forth. Sometimes, people may have good intention that result in tragedy, does it make them "good" or "bad"?

Here's the thing about the franchise... It's never going to end. As much as I love it, there has been a lot more bad than good since Disney's run started. Bad entirely and bad within the good. Dilution is a VERY REAL issue with this property today, that goes the same for Marvel. Both have been in this "quantity over quality" wave and they need to RELAX and seriously focus on good story telling and not release and announce so many projects.

Your final thoughts on oversaturation…We had years of Extended Universe that created some original and awesome characters and stories. Though I have enjoyed many moments, it’s only been since Disney that Star Wars is at risk of getting stale. There's absolutely nothing wrong with different factions, sects, religious groups etc of Force worshipers or users... In the real world we have all kinds of different groups of people that worship a god(s) or spirit or the universe in some way or another. It's actually something I've always wanted to see in Star Wars because only having the Jedi and the Sith all the time is boring... I don't love the High Republic books, there's enough to keep me reading, but something super interesting recently was the "Path of the Open Hand/Closed Fist" which believed the Jedi abused the Force and when they used it there was a butterfly effect like reaction somewhere in the galaxy, which was really cool. But we literally JUST did witches... hahaha I would have liked something else but what are ya gonna do right?

Yes, it is no longer canon. However, the big crux of the question on “creating life” comes from Revenge of the Sith, it’s just expanded on in the book. And as of now, at least in my view, there’s no reason it can’t be canon - unlike a lot of other EU content.

If the franchise has reported to have an affinity with a certain demographic, and you betray said demographic... That is what is strange. Also one thing is wanting to have things tailored, and the other is wanting things to have a certain quality standard. This show is objectively terrible for 22million an episode.

Filoni said himself recently, whatever you want to be canon is canon... not those exact words, but that's the basic idea... so whatever is in some comic book, is not canon to me. Palpatine did not create Anakin Skywalker. Sorry. Not Sorry. HAHA. Anakin was manifested by the Force to bring balance. Period.
@BeyondTheDuneSea
@BeyondTheDuneSea Ай бұрын
That’s actually /canon/ though. Palps didn’t create Anakin. The dream he has is meant to confuse Anakin. In the Plagueis book, they try to create a perfect dark side entity and the force “strikes back” and creates Anakin itself. The point we were trying to make was they that comic seems to reinforce the canon of the Plagueis novel

This show is the Nickelback of Star Wars: so far some actually like it, others have problems with it, and the rest are just on the dark side band wagon. The galaxy is a big place, why wouldn’t there be another interpretation of The Force? Do we not have thousands of religions in real life? Isn’t there a line about understanding things beyond the “dogmatic” view of the Jedi? It doesn’t rewrite anything. Also, we’re still getting the bread crumb trail to the mystery and are most likely still dealing with the unreliable narrator aspect. We’ll ultimately find out more because **we still have episodes to go.** “Control…you must learn control.”

The episode was weird in the way they are making jedi seem so lame and not good, when her twin sister set things on fire, i turned to my wife and said “Maybe a sith is making her do those things?” She says, “they arent that smart to write that” 😅, i think you guys have amazing theories but truly I dont think the writers are that smart or cool to do anything we want 😩, Ahsoka finale was such a let down… sigh

For the record, the vast majority of the screaming and name-calling has been by Scheels and bots against the people who are criticizing the show. There are a lot of insults, a lot of shaming, all aimed at the critics of the show, but an absolute dearth of any information or reasoned critique countering the critics who are pointing out the poor storyline, poor script writing, stilted dialogue, wooden performances, the glaringly huge plot holes, the equally glaring plot contrivances, and the just absolutely suffocating level of s sociopolitical/sociosexual identity politics agenda and narrative stuffed into the series to the point of crowding out quality and entertainment value. Even sites like Rotten Tomatoes began by suppressing negative audience reviews and allowing only positive. Even so, it stayed roughly in the 39’s until the suppression of reviews by people who are critical of and do not like the series, at which time the ratings plunged to as low as 15%. This show has been soundly rejected by the vast majority of the audience. At least up to this point, it is an abysmal failure. I really do not see that situation improving from here. To reference your title, “The apAcolyte” only makes me “question what to believe”, in reference to Disney/Lucasfilm, and the sanity and integrity of the people there, who seem intent upon destroying the franchises rather than respecting them and contributing to them. You cannot deny that Leslye Headland made it clear from the very start that she intended to completely reject and ignore the George Lucas vision of Star Wars, with the complete support, very vocal, of Kathleen Kennedy. Nor can you deny, since they did it in the open, that they have disrespected and treated with outright contempt, the original franchise and its rich fictional universe, internal history, internal logic, and physics, that they have treated with disrespect and outright contempt George Lucas and his original vision. You cannot deny that Leslye Headland went out of her way to ensure that her production would have absolutely nothing to do with Star Wars as it existed, by hiring only people who shared her abysmal ignorance of the franchise, ensuring that the production she created, whatever else it might be, would not be anything to do with “Star Wars“. Nor can you deny that both Kathleen Kennedy and Leslie Headland have gone out of their way, with occasional help from Bob Iger, to insult and shame the Fanbase, and by extension the general audience, casting aspersions and accusations without support, and in so doing alienating both the core fan base that is of the utmost importance in ensuring the success of any “Star Wars“ production, as well as its profitability. This tactic of using shaming language and insults, which began from the very day that the show was announced, when Leslie Headland went out of her way to condemn anyone who doesn’t just absolutely love and rave about her show, and who continues to prefer the George Lucas version, as a misogynist and “not a true fan“. Belittling the critics as “a tiny minority of loud opinionated fans“, when in fact the numbers show the criticisms and rejection to have been coming from the overwhelming majority of both the traditional fan base and the wider and more casual general audience. Stating that “the tiny minority of loud, opinionated fans” have either somehow convinced the vast majority of potential viewers to not like the series, or have made them afraid to speak out positively about the show, in the process shaming and insulting not merely the established fan base, but also shaming the potential audience as a whole, implying that they are weak-minded, frightened sheep easily cowed and led by the naysayers. Headland, Kennedy, and Iger began this scurrilous shaming campaign long before there was even a script or a single scene filmed, and of course have blamed the failure of the series LONG IN ADVANCE OF EVEN SCRIPTING OR FILMING THE SERIES upon “patriarchy”, “misogyny””, and “the toxic male demographic”, it somehow inexplicably being “obvious” that it’s all men’s fault, making this blatant smear campaign both reprehensible, indefensible, and unforgivable. This series, made by people condemning sexism, racism, homophobia, and transphobia, is saturated with the same sins displayed by those people in the public record: what political commentator and professor John H. McWhorter has described at length and termed “woke racism”, explicit sexism, blatant misandry, and a predilection for blaming everything on cis-gendered heterosexual men in general, and white men in particular. It frankly does not matter whether you find things in it to be likable or not. The fact of the matter is, if such a series as this were to be made exhibiting the racism against people of color, sexism, and misogyny, it would not be tolerated for an instant. There can be no excuse for tolerating THIS series. None of what I have stated above can be legitimately denied. All of it is public record, including damning statements from Headland, Kennedy, Iger, and even some of the actors themselves.
