Why do you think the writers would be better without producer interference? Maybe they are just terrible on their own. I don’t see where the writers have earned the benefit of the doubt.
@Vossenator
@Vossenator 7 ай бұрын
Kathleen Kennedy is known to be a very meddling and controlling producer that loves to interject her own ideas into the content. The problem is she's not very good at it and lacks creativity and vision. Example: when Kathleen was George Lucas secretary, she was taking notes while Lucas and Steven Spielberg were discussing ideas for a movie. One of them said: "And in the end, he gets the girl." Kathleen chimed in: "How about instead of he gets the girl, he gets the dog?" Both Lucas and Spielberg were probably like: "Dafuq?!" If that was her as a secretary, I'd imagine her as the producer of Lucasfilm doing the same thing in creative/idea brainstorming discussions.

Disneys management has been hiring shitty writers ever since they took over the Star Wars IP. A lot of that has to do with great writers refusing to work with them because they know the higher-ups at Disney are going to greatly interfere with their work. The fact the only live-action show that hired veteran and award-winning writers such as Andor is an example of what happens when Disney execs don’t interfere and hire great writers.

@@ModernWelfare_ The first time that George had the budget and total control of his projects was when he filmed the prequels (Mostly because he got the funding from Hasbro, the toy company). I know it's hard to remember but the prequels were universally hated and for good reason. Bad storytelling, bad plot, terrible acting and don't even get me started on the mydichlorians. George had a lot of help filming and writing the original trilogy and it was made obvious when he absolutely bombed when writing and directing the prequels. except for the Darth Maul fight scene. That was a highlight in the series.

The problem is not the "not enough creative control" the problem is they hire based on race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation and gender, not TALENT. They don't care about creativity, just diversity. And you CAN judge the actors. Remember the time when great actor performances surpassed a bad script? The actors are hired on the same basis: not talent, diversity. THAT is the problem that kills quality: politics, discrimination, sexism and racism rolled into one.

@gabeitchh I'm not saying people shouldn't be given chances. What I'm saying is that true diversity, when it comes to the workplace, means whoever is best to work on a project, regardless of color, creed or gender, needs to be hired. And I'm not even saying "don't ever try anything new!" But what Kathleen Kenedy keeps doing is hiring women, who's entire personality is hating straight white men, and letting them make shows where they sprinkle and or shove it into the shows they're making. And then it's just preaching instead of entertaining. That's why she's been fighting tooth and nail with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, because she has admitted to wanting to tear down everything about George Lucas' stories.

Unfortunately, the storytelling doesn't improve from there. Initially, I was intrigued by the mystery surrounding the Sith Lord, but by the time episode two ended, I had lost all interest. The character development, their backgrounds, and motivations are all subpar, lacking the quality of John Favreau or Dave Filoni's work. Once again, Disney's Star Wars dives headfirst into a mess of poorly made shows. It's clear the producers are trying to mimic Lucas's style and the storytelling of Favreau and Filoni, but they fall far short of skilled, experienced, and talented storytelling. I'm frustrated by the poor decisions made by Disney executives, who have distorted George Lucas's vision. Disney, you won't get any more of my money for your trash, politics, indoctrinations, or misleading narratives. Maybe, just maybe, when Kennedy finally leaves, Star Wars will have a chance at revival. This is a classic case of confirmation bias in action!

"Attack me with all your strength..."? Is that the best line a jedi killing assassin can come up with? That entire scene could have been executed without anyone uttering a word, and that would have set up a far more compelling plot (that would have crashed that much harder after they did start talking).

I mean it’s kinda funny that they have the other characters sitting around the Jedi laugh at the assassin. I imagine that it was intended as them laughing at the idea of her challenging a Jedi Knight, but in reality it just sounds like they’re laughing at how corny and dumb her line is.

This is what I don't get: Kathleen Kennedy worked with Steven Spielberg for years. He spent months in pre-production working on the script and developed storyboards that included virtually every camera shot. He fgured out which cameras to use, which lenses to use, camera placement, lighting, and a host of other factors BEFORE a single frame of film was shot. This took a long time, but the end result was films being shot within the projected number of days, and in many cases principal photography was finished ahead of schedule. Did KK learn NOTHING from Spielberg? If anything, she should know at least something about keeping production costs down...and maybe a thing or two about what makes a good story and relatable characters.

Kennedy rose through the ranks, early on, via Hollywood nepotism. There is an old interview or two with Spielberg in which he lambasts her abilities regarding movie making. Also stated she was a terrible secretary (original job before marrying Hollywood bigwig).. 😄

I’m pretty confident that it’s not the producers hindering the content. Sure, there’s some of that, but the content and performances are so bad in these shows all around - they’re Disney shows, and they remind me of classic Disney show acting, but with better makeup. They don’t hire great actors for their most important roles. They don’t hire solid sci-fi writers. It’s when they do so those things that their writers and actors get hamstrung. They have to sanitize everything for the Disney brand, so they can’t go full in on the Star Wars name. People get run through with lightsabers and walk away fine because it’s Disney, marketed to kids.

I disagree with the Fix/Solution. The problem you're probably picking up on is, 8x 1 hour episodes is a lot of time to fill. And if they don't have a fine-tuned script, you start to notice things take too long to happen. There's no action and events get dragged on for too long. The reason is simply that filling an hour of TV is difficult to achieve if you do not plan out the entire script and have a big picture goal and lore/backstory to fill in time. i.e. Look at a typical movie. It has a beginning/middle/end section, split 90-120 minutes into smaller stories, Acts. Now, take that 20-30 minute Act, and turn it into 50 to 60 minutes... easy, right ? If you have 2 movies, that's 6 episodes. etc. Not really. If you don't have enough story, character or exciting material for 3 entire movies, you have to waste time with dialogue and emotional moments because you were intending a Movie-Like 6 minute scene... but you have to spend 20 minutes because the Acts can't be changed. If movies were easy to make, everyone would make them. So now we have to go to the restaurant. Wait to be seated. Sit. Watch the Chef wash their hands, start chopping, cooking, etc. We can't just jump into the world and be served, now we have to wait for the plate to be cooked and served, watching it all happen. To spend 20 seconds on a 10 second scene to build emotion and pathos. You start to count tiles on the floor, and a quiet scene becomes a lonely scene. It's the same problem as Ahsoka, that things take too long to happen. The reason is basically that each episode is almost treated as an act in a movie ... Which only works if they had started out with a script with 300+ pages of content. A movie is 3-4 acts, each act is 20-30 minutes. A TV season is 12 to 24 episodes, 23/47 minutes without 7/14 minutes of ads. 1 Season of TV is equivalent to 3 movies, but it's also equivalent to 12+ acts of 30 minutes each. To make 24 episodes, you need a strong overall connection of each episode to a gameplan or season arc story. here's the problem of dividing 6-9 hours unequally. You have to either build up each 20-30 minute section into an hour of content as an Act, or you develop the episode arc so that it has the same kind of A/B/C plot and character events so that each episode mixes 2 different 20-30 minute Acts. If each episode has a connective thread, then you can build parallel stories that merge the A/B characters to meet in the middle. The A story heads to the bank, the B story is inside the bank. You can then have them merge at the end where the action is. If the original script was for a 2-3 hour movie, you have a severe problem. Ahsoka seems like a TV movie that was extended far beyond the normal capacity because the A story of Ahsoka is padded out, and the B story of the Sith is also padded out. Because Filoni didn't have a lot of backstory / lore to fill in the gaps, there's a lot of boredom because the A/B story isn't that gripping enough to wait for the characters to do something. You then start to notice the slow action, the slow delaying moments, the injection of things that don't line up with the plot. 20 minutes of scenes stapled in to explain backstory, while skipping complex things that should be seen to be understood. If they had built the season as a 3-movie structure, a trilogy ... then perhaps there's some ability to cut / slice the movie into a cohesive flow that keeps the action and dialogue together. You basically weave Movie 2 and movie 1 into the first half, then mix Movie 2 and 3 into the later half. This basically allows for the 3 act structure, but also the episodes to have the A/B layers and feel much more complex. Now, what if instead of a 3-movie design, you have 2 Movies. Now you're in a bit of trouble, because the A/B stories aren't enough to cover 8 hours. It's even worse if you have 1 movie's worth of story Arcs to split over 8 hours. This isn't pacing, this is just bad management that does not understand TV production or it's intensity. A Movie is shot with a page of script for each minute, with a 3 act structure. The plot forms around the acts, scenes and A story/ B story / C story. Typically following the protag/antagonist points of view, but also a side-story or flashback to reveal the next act or scene. In this way, you keep the pace and attention of the audience to build the relationship of action and pathos, et al. You start to care for the characters and understand them before you put them in another Act, and a new set of objectives in the new Act. So each Act in a movie, is 20-30 minutes to cover a location or character, introduce the problem, then move into the action. If you make 8 hours of D+ as a movie, that's supposed to be 12-20 acts of 20 minutes to 40 minutes each. Now you have action at the beginning, middle, end of each episode, or some episodes with 4 acts and some episodes with 2, sic. Disney+, doesn't quite have that luxury in making an Act 1 episode. It has to stretch a movie format story (because the writers don't understand episodes), from the 3 act structure into a 6/9/12 act structure instead. Which either means splitting each episode into an act, which would make WAY MORE sense in hindsight, but it also means something else. If you don't put the main characters in the first episode, the audience doesn't know who the characters are. Everyone has to be sandwiched into the introductory episode for their 5 minutes. And so, the First Episode has to start the A/B/C/D plotlines and weaving multiple stories from Act 2 and Act 1 together so there's a connective line by Episode 3 when the story finally starts. When you create 23 minutes for TV, you need to "bottle up" each episode to just cover the basics and the audience does the work to decompress and put pieces together. This is why people 'binge' 3 episodes, but they can't easily binge 5 or 8 episodes as easily. Each Episode of TV, is built on this notional compression of events. A movie is also based on this compression, i.e. Act 1, 2, 3, and 4 are 20-30 minutes long. Pacing introduces each page of script as 1 minute of film, roughly, so 100 pages - 100 minutes. Shooting scripts are built like this for estimating budget and footage, development, etc. If you don't have a "tight" script with everything planned out, you go way over budget and need to pad out scenes to fill the time in. Hence "Ahsoka" being both fast and dull. But that's also 24 x 23 minute TV episodes, almost 9 hours. But in that contrast, Each D+ show is 3 regular episodes of high-intensity, high-budget Movie quality TV to fill, minus the "last episode" and intro/outro credits. The normal 3 act movie of 30-40 minutes per act, is woven into 20 acts in a CW show, because they want to tell an A Story and B Story and C story with the ensemble of characters. To do this, you need to know the integrity of the A/B/C and D story is doing, and the D story is what happens outside of the characters, what the villains are doing, etc. A Season Arc is then split up into 5 or 6 segments, typically over a long-span, i.e. 1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20, 21-24 as if it was a Giant Movie to reveal that arc over time.

Neither can her droid, so, she gives up?! 4 A main character survives crashing into a planet at terminal velocity from orbit..........because she can't just fix the autopilot. That's some needlessly thick plot armor. 5 Why are we getting so pumped up to fight someone that isn't paying any noticeable attention at all? Why did we recycle lines delivered to someone that isn't even paying any noticeable attention? 6 I won't fight you or have a conversation, but if you come back with poison, I will kill myself at your request?

I tortured myself too outta morbid curiosity 😂 .... This show wasn't just woke, it was dull, predictable and lacked anything close to entertaining. Karen, girl boss cringe in Space

I agree it was dull. I almost fell asleep on it and came close to just turning it off. I managed to make it through the first 2 episodes, but have no desire to continue watching it.

No one can act besides Trinity. The fight choreography was excellent but out of place. The story is just more Disney go here do this then that. Why couldn’t Sol just scream to Osha in cave before she almost dramatically fell. Oh yeah so the force can be used for everything.

Dude. What are you talking about? This show has allegedly taken YEARS to make! Why do you think it would have been improved by more time. Leslye Headland, previously Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant. a proud lesbian who cast her wife in the show, is the show-runner. What 'studio interference' are you talking about? Lucasfilm let her make EXACTLY the sh*t-show that she wanted to make. The show is crap, just like everything else that Disney makes these days. They don't need you conjuring excuses for them.

Acolyte breakdown: Woke Disney chokes again, this time creating a black female Jedi killer with two "moms" who is on a rampage to kill all whitey Jedi. I've seen enough.

tbh i feel like it was more bad dialogue and lack of smaller details like body language than bad writing story wise its promising and is an improvement compared to smth like the sequels
