I loved their version of the Antonia act; Antonia herself was the most charming one I've ever seen and heard.

I don't think you can fail with that young tragic heroine. Although I did see one on youTube who had to sing the top C at the end of the Mother trio an octave down. Some people wanted the Antonia act omitted from the film. Franz's song (sung by Grahame Clifford, acted by Massine) was, like some of the music, omitted although it was recorded musically. I don't know if it's in the six minutes of new footage recently discovered. There's a photo of it, and another of the Muse (Pamela Brown draped in gold tulle). They may have been publicity shots. Though very original the film is still one of the best productions of "Hoffmann". Some nowadays aren't proper productions. Travesties! I auditioned for one of the singers in the curtain-call: Monica Sinclair the mezzo-soprano who sang Nicklausse (played by Pamela Brown). I performed "Tout en tirant mon aiguille" Griolet's aria from Offenbach's " La Fille du Tambour-Major"/ "The Drum-Major's Daughter". Opera Viva was one of the London groups I was in. Mogens Wieth appeared as the assasination target in Hitchcock’s own remake of his “ Man Who Knew Too Much”.

Clearly, this sequence was made by Powell and Pressburger as an epilogue to the motion picture. I am unable as yet to understand why it was not appended on the Criterion Collection DVD copy thereof. 🤨 😕

They only discovered it in 2015. It was excised from the picture before the premiere.

@@victorbruno271 Ah, yes, that makes sense. Well, here's hoping that Criterion puts out a reissue very soon with this epilogue appended. Without it, the film ends just a little too abruptly for my pleasure. Thank you kindly! 😉

@@goldenager59 It was released on Blu-Ray a couple of years ago in Europe and I think only this year it was released on the Criterion collection

@@PabloArriagada That is very welcome news indeed. Here's hoping I can obtain a copy for the holidays. 🎄😁

@@goldenager59 About the abrupt ending, there was apparently also meant to be a song for Nicklausse (as there is in the opera) which was cut for time. I believe the scene was filmed but is now lost.
