That little connector you were messing with by the thermostat housing is the V-Tec solenoid. It should be a little cylinder mounted on top of a triangle shaped base. That bolts to the V-Tec oil manifold. If the connector has bad connection, the vehicle will operate normal during regular driving conditions; but, when you hard accelerate under load, highway driving while trying to make a pass, the engine cannot actuate the V-Tec solenoid system. There is also a small strainer screen under the solenoid manifold block. It can get clogged as well.

Some vtec engines have oil pressure sensor. Which it sounds like this one does. Maybe the connector wiggled loose. It’s right around that area they were f-n with. I say some because i’ve seen both ways. JDM 98 spec ITR engines for example don’t have the vtec oil pressure sensor. Maybe they don’t want to lose a race if vtec goes into limp mode. Or maybe they saved $10 on some models but why the most expensive model haha.

VTEC solenoids have a metal screen that can get clogged or ruined. They're usually cleanable.

Did you check to see if your tires need an air change, it’s every 40k or so. Just like you change the coolant or oil. You take a left handed screwdriver and in the trunk, next to the cap for the blocker fluid, is a flap. Under there you will find the instructions on how much your vehicle needs and the fitting...

you need to locate the vct solenoid. see if it is leaking oil from the mounting gasket or the oil pressure switch mounted to it. pretty common

Get an old coolant pressure tester and hook it to a 12v air horn pump wired in reverse. You can change any sensor / part you want with no coolant loss.

From my understanding no thermostat actually causes the car to over heat. Because the coolant has no time to sit in the radiator to cool. I’ve heard people do this because there cars over hear and because the temp gage doesn’t go up they think it’s cool. When it’s not. The sensor also can’t get a reading since the fluid is constantly flowing.

Check the rad fan works with the ac on. Should come on with the compressor. Usually if it's cold at speed and hot at idle the fan isn't working

V Tec wires are by where you were working make sure it's hooked up properly if it's hooked up properly take it out and clean the screens on it or replace the unit they are like 100 bucks

They probably put head gasket leak if they gutted the thermostat meaning it had a bad head gasket and added sealer? And also yeah vtec solenoid but since that wasn't there before you did the thermostat, check the wiring to it first especially the oil pressure sensor that lives with it and also yeah dirty oil clogs up the vtec screen and also causes that code and symptom. On my Honda it was actually a bad aftermarket oil pressure switch that is located with the vtec solenoid. Always buy oem parts if you can.

Plug wire on at 7:04 and then off at 7:11 They also disconnected the front temp sensor and replaced it. Wonder if they forgot to plug in something (oil pressure sender or VTEC solenoid).

If that code comes back after the oil change. Take the vtec solenoid off and clean the metal screen on it. An replace the spool gasket.

Maybe a weird sensor problem. On my old car, I changed the spark plugs, when I was finished, stuff was crazy messed up. The old plastic plugs were brittle, and I had accidentally leaned on it, to keep my knees from hurting 😂😂😂 Snapped it off. I fixed that and everything was good.

T-stat was gutted so it would run cooler. But it takes longer to reach operating temp. It's really an unneeded "mod"

The thermostat was not gutted it just came apart why use rtv silicone if it has a rubber seal already and hopefully you installed it with the jiggle valve pointing up, love the robotnik stache
