The moron writers don't fucking know how to write, that's why. The original TV SHOW is where all the mythos was created and they NEVER wanted to hurt each other, they were just into dangerous hobbies. Charles Addams, the original creator, didn't even write names for any of them... just little "witty" contrasting single panel comic strips. The TV Show is where all of the story comes from. Morticia abhors violence and both parents try to teach their children to behave and be nice to each other and others. Everything beyond that initial TV Show is written by satanic idiots who think The Addams Family is about death because LOL GOTHIC. Except literally nobody likes them because they are evil, it's the contrast of them moving away from their evil that creates the humor, the attempt to be good despite having been raised entirely in an evil environment. Humanity connects with that because of out natural tendency towards sin, we have to work against our sinful nature... just like The Addams Family, but only the TV show. Every other iteration is just relishing in how evil they can make them while also keeping it as 'family friendly' as possible, these idiots think THAT is what's funny. LOL WE GET TO LAUGH AT PEOPLE BEING EVIL. It's allowing you to think, pretend, live vicariously through, and find humor in evil. That's why none of the iterations work all too well, aside from the TV Show. The Addams Family will never be as good as the TV Show because of the satanic evil people running things forcing it to stay evil. The TV Show was overseen by one of the Writers of Marx Brothers films, so that's why it was so good and not completely reliant on evil.

Well, he was an escaped mental asylum patient before he met Gomez and Morticia and when you get sent to an asylum, you're in a room with soft and foamy walls, ceiling and floor to avoid injuring yourself as well as wearing a straitjacket to prevent yourself hurting people. In The Addams Family episode "Lurch Learns to Dance", he told Wednesday that he likes being miserable. Anyway, Lurch is a butler and it's a butler's job to do housework. Also, Gomez and Morticia love the fact that he's from the asylum and made his room look like his asylum room to make him feel more like a patient as well as a butler.
